Extractions: Meeting 01/18/02 Attendance: Jane Martel Pam Wilson Renae Harrison Miko Pattie Susan Brown Beth Kraemer Guest: Sue Patrick (I forgot to list attendees in my notes. Please send corrections to this list to Susan!) Keeping stats Beth is investigating how to track stats. We will not be able to track by user community for access via our stand-alone interface, because we don't ask people to log in. But we should be able to get usage stats. Training Face-to-Face training for fall/winter did not happen due to low enrollment. The timing was probably bad. We put off plans for any more face-to-face training until at least July.. We also want to develop and online course to train people in use of the interface. Susan, Jane, Tanzi and Sue Patrick will get together to talk about this. Tanzi is currently working on an online course for the KYVL gateway. Some of that material cold be incorporated, but we're not sure if people have the time to get this ready soon. The small group will talk about it and get back to us. Lesson Plans Due to the recent database conversion (we changed the structure of the KYVAE database to match the structure of LINCS to facilitate incorporation of our records into LINCS), the Lesson Plan fields had to be dropped. We're going to incorporate a separate input page for people wanting to submit Lesson Plans to the database. This page will prompt people to add information we had been requesting in the dropped fields as parts of the "description" or "notes" fields. The full text of the lesson plans will be posted on the KYVL site in a way similar to our digitized documents. The database record will contain a URL pointing to the lesson plan on the web. Beth is working on the Lesson Plan input page.
KYVL: Adult Education Resource Database Work Group Minutes 4/19/01 adult education Resource DB Minutes. ). 4. lesson Plan template - We wantto provide a way for people to enter lesson plans into the database. http://www.kyvl.org/html/about/committees/adulted/min010419.shtml
Extractions: Atendees: Pat Burchell, Jacqueline Korengel, Rosie Maum, Susan Brown, Cindy Read, Sara Callaway, Miko Pattie, Jane Martel, Sandra Kestner, Beth Kraemer 1. Jane asked that we all use the form ( http://lib.uky.edu/AESurvey/ ) to suggest resources to add to the database. There has not been an overwhelming response to the email request sent to the state. 2. Southern LINCs - There is a conference call scheduled for next week for Jane, Miko, Beth to talk with LINCs people about our request to upload records from their database to ours. Our request is beyond the current agreement between Kentucky and LINCs. The current agreement is fairly recent, however, and could be flexible. There is also the chance that we could bribe them by suggesting that KYVL could host a version of their database that would be compatible with the protocol required to search multiple databases simultaneously (z39.50). 4. Lesson Plan template - We want to provide a way for people to enter lesson plans into the database. Sandy and Rosie will identify a suitable template and send a copy to the list. Beth will create an online form, similar to the one for adding resources. The template will enable us to have consistent lesson plans and reduce variability in quality. 5. Family Literacy - We wanted to define the relationship between the database the FL people are creating, and ours. Based on Cindy's decription, it looks like they are creating a library catalog (a database of physical items). We recommended that their database be z39.50 compliant, so that it can be searched in conjunction with our database. That way, a user can find physical items in the FL collection and find electronic FL resources that are included in our database. The databases will complement each other.
