For years the Middle School athletic program has been recognized as one of the most successful sports programs in the area. A great many sports and teams are offered in grades four through eight with an emphasis on skill development, character building and competitive challenges. Thus Harker offers a sport and a level appropriate for all skill levels. Beginning in the 4th grade, students can participate in volleyball, flag football, soccer, basketball, swimming and softball. Once in 6th grade, teams are grouped by skill level, and Harker's "no cut" policy guarantees playing time for everybody. In Middle School tennis is added to the sports' choices available to students. It is possible for a student to participate in up to five different sports in a single school year. Practices are held daily after school, and in some sports, such as basketball, up to 17 teams can be in action. Harker hosts tournaments in both volleyball and basketball and holds an annual 8th grade basketball invitational which fields some great action! The Eagle athletes compete with both public and private schools in the South Bay area.
