LA NOCHE de QUEER LATINA PERFORMANCE 7:00pm, Tuesday, April 1, 2003 Nitery Theater, Old Union, Stanford University Carmelita Tropicana is the performance persona of Cuban-American performance artist Alina Troyano. Tropicana's multilingual cross-cultural monologues and drag performances in such pieces as "The Boiler Time Machine" and "Milk of Amnesia" wreak havoc with cultural stereotypes and explore cultural memory. She is an Obie award winner and auther of Adelina Anthony , a Chicana lesbian with a bent towards red-faced cochinadas and other matters of import, will perform part of "Mastering Sex and Tortillas." The show has an in-your-face attitude about mujer-on-mujer sexuality . . . aside from being provocative it's bien funny! She has performed in several one-woman shows, including "La Sirena: Another Bitter Babe," and "Pancha Villa." An accomplished director, Anthony's most recent productions in Dallas and Los Angleles of the play "The Hungry Woman:" A Mexican Medea" were highly acclaimed. A special cameo apperance is made by the femme-fabulous Coral Lopez. Anthony and Lopez are currently co-writing "CLITgrrrl! Finally, a Superhero for our Queer Mundo," which is a show with a little bit of el Chapulin Colorado, a dash of Superman, and lots of dyke drama.
