Extractions: Self-sustainable education in Burkina Faso through Agricultural Education In Burkina Faso, Gueswende Public Primary School addresses local poverty and national environmental issues through agricultural education. Through a gardening programme at school, pupils are growing vegetables and maintaining a fruit orchard. A portion of the produce goes to improving the diet of the school lunches while the other portion is sold. The proceeds from the sale of these fruits and vegetables go to purchasing stationary and other collective classroom materials for the school. Joining in the fight against deforestation, which is a grave problem facing the country, the school has set up a nursery with 1,000 plants. Gueswende Primary School also responded to meet the President of the Republic's challenge for "one school, one forest" by expanding their orchard with 600 new trees. The school also encourages solidarity among its student body. Those who are better off occasionally bring food and household materials and share them with other students of less fortunate circumstances. In the future, Gueswende envisages an even larger orchard and hopes to keep animals to provide more food.

Its purpose is to explore what life was like here a century ago. Towards that end, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County has combined original structures, authentic re-creations, livestock and authentic activities into a realistic 1890s DuPage County working farm. Kline Creek Farm began as a log cabin homestead in the early 1830s. It continued to be a working family farm through the 1960s until it was purchased by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. The Farm first opened to the public in 1984 for special events, and opened for daily, year-round operation in July of 1989.
