Although there is a school facility located on FT Greely, five miles to the south of Delta, the District was forced to close this school in May 2000 because of declining enrollment. At this time, the Delta School is filled to capacity with the remaining student population in the area. Current (Spring 2002) enrollment at the Delta facility is 507 students. There are over 100 students enrolled in our local correspondence program and 27 students in the Alternative High School. The Delta Cyber School serves approximately 400 part-time students, statewide. (In 1985, the District boasted a student population of 1157 students.) There are approximately 80 full and part-time employees currently employed, including administrator, classroom teacher, secretary, teacher aide, food service and custodial personnel.

Extractions: An Investigative Project Presented to the Faculty of the University of Alaska Anchorage in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master Of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies - Rehabilitation Counseling INTRODUCTION Electronic assistive technology holds many promises as well challenges for those living in Alaska who are blind or visually impaired. A review of literature indicates that many advents in assistive technology for the blind and visually impaired are directly related to the general electronics and personal computing revolution that is still underway in our world. The blind and visually impaired may reap side benefits from advancing general technology but also have experienced being left behind or locked out due to technology accessibility issues. There is a consensus in the literature that electronic assistive technology is critically necessary to people who are blind and visually impaired to maintain competitiveness in the employment world. Electronic assistive technology is rapidly advancing in this direction: more effective and more versatile, smaller and less obtrusive, and less expensive. Electronic assistive technology utilized with personal computers includes; synthetic speech output, screen enlargement programs and screen enhancement features, Braille translation software, Braille embossers, refreshable Braille displays and personal data assistants. The Internet shows particular promise for being common ground for sighted and blind or visually impaired users alike. Text reading electronics including closed circuit television enlargers and optical character recognition scanners are proving to be very effective means to gain access to the printed word. Electronic mobility devices not gained wide acceptance or popularity, with the exception of recently developed speech output mapping and orientation systems. There is a proliferation of practical and often inexpensive items that have been equipped with synthetic speech output such as wrist watches, thermometers, and weight scales.
Eagle River Alaska History age youths from throughout western alaska. By 1930, enrollment had reached 110students, making it the largest of the territory's three vocational schools. http://www.cer.org/history.htm
Extractions: The unlocking of Alaska's wealth began with the completion in 1923 of the Alaska Railroad, totally financed and constructed by the federal government. From the port of Seward, the railroad was extended to the interior community of Fairbanks. One of the earliest segments to be built was from Ship Creek (below downtown Anchorage) north to the Matanuska Valley coal fields. Ship Creek became the hub of activity as a construction camp and supply terminal site and later became the main rail yard, railroad headquarters and ultimately the center of activity which permanently establish Anchorage as a new community. Bottom Growth in Eklutna Little growth occurred in Anchorage or north in the Chugiak-Eagle River area after completion of the railroad. An exception, however, was at Eklutna. In 1924, the U.S. Department of Interior established a home at Eklutna for Native children orphaned by the 1918 influenza epidemic. The home was soon converted to a boarding school called the Eklutna Industrial School, which offered vocational training to high-school age youths from throughout western Alaska. By 1930, enrollment had reached 110 students, making it the largest of the territory's three vocational schools. A post office was established at Eklutna in 1926.

Extractions: This is an education outline I did in Alaska History my sophomore year. The purpose was to learn about education and share what I learned with the rest of my class. I taught me about the education system and history of it in Alaska. I. Introduction Education in Alaska began when Russia owned Alaska. Alaska was sold to the United States in 1867 but education didn't start until the 1870's. The only education available then was by missionaries and the government,if the area you lived in had something that interested them. Many of the elders that live in Alaska today were in a time when Alaska's education was just starting. This outline discusses the major players, the location, pattern of development, impacts, and the current status of education in Alaska. II. Major Players A. Sheldon Jackson was a General Agent for education in Alaska in 1884 1. Jackson received insufficient fund for Alaska by working agreements with various religious missionary groups. 2. Brought attention to Alaska from actions with Washington D.C. 3. Was criticized for supporting church schools with public funds
