Extractions: Discovering and Nurturing Gifted Children Pilot Project Introduction In 1998, The Welfare Association approached Al-Muntada with a working paper on the process of discovering and nurturing gifted children. Upon the Welfare Association's request, Al Muntada developed a detailed vision and implementation strategy and work plan of the project and began to implement the project in July of that year. In an attempt to establish a uniquely Palestinian method that incorporates universal standards for discovering and nurturing gifted children, Al Muntada formulated the vision and implementation modality based on a three pronged process. The process consisted of selecting the most promising children who prove to have above average abilities in certain aspects of their thinking processes, challenging them to become thinkers, evaluating their gained thinking skills in order to ascertain their giftedness and begin to provide the right environment to nurture that giftedness. The main objective of this pilot project was to provide a basis for the conception of a Palestinian program to discovery and nurturing of gifted children.
