Extractions: PolicyWatch: August 1998 The State Chamber/AIA is taking an active role in a group called APPLES that is leading the fight against a proposed constitutional amendment that would repeal personal property taxes in Arkansas. APPLES-Arkansans to Protect Police, Libraries, Education and Services-needs your help, too. APPLES opposes the property tax repeal because it would be devastating to our state, our economy and economic development. The proposed amendment to the Arkansas Constitution is sponsored by a group called the Arkansas Taxpayers Rights Association that hopes to appeal to the public's distaste for taxes. Certainly, there are Arkansans who are frustrated about property taxes, but this reckless proposal isn't the answer. It does not provide for the replacement of lost revenues, rather it authorizes the state legislature to:
