Its businesses are found mostly in industries at the mature and declining stages, as a result of shifts in demography and other factors unique to Chinatown as well as technological changes that have swept the U.S. economy. The Internet and its emerging technologies and business models, including e-Commerce, are now crucial to business survival. A yawning digital divide has appeared between Chinatown residents and businesses, on the one hand, and other Asians with strong professional and technical backgrounds on the other. Looking toward the future, AABDC, on behalf of the Asian American small business community, has taken the initial steps toward bridging this divide through the development of the Chinatown Network.
