He currently serves as an editorial assistant with the Journal of Language, Identity, and Education , and recently served as an editorial assistant with the Bilingual Research Journal Wright is fluent in Khmer (Cambodian); prior to coming to ASU he worked as a bilingual Khmer (Cambodian) teacher in California in one of the only bilingual Khmer educational programs in the country, and was instrumental in establishing the program in his school. He has an MA degree in Language, Literacy, and Learning from California State University, Long Beach. His MA Thesis, The Education of Cambodian American Students in the Long Beach Unified School District: A Language and Educational Policy Analysis was awarded the Most Outstanding Thesis Award. Wright has lived and worked in Cambodia where he provided training and technical assistance in the education and human rights sectors. He currently serves as the webmaster for the National Association for the Education and Advancement of Cambodian, Laotian, and Vietnamese Americans (NAFEA)

Extractions: In all academic fields of higher education, contrary to expectations, no consistent evidence for a glass ceiling emerged for Asian Americans, according to Professor Sharon M. Lee, Professor of Sociology at Portland State University. She observed a more complex picture when the effects of particular independent variables such as academic rank, tenure, years of experience, productivity, and field or area of specialization were further evaluated. Asian Americans have fewer paths available than White faculty to increase earnings and that several characteristics translate to higher salaries for Whites but not for Asian Americans, Professor Lee found. "Whites derive substantial and statistically significant benefits from being male, being native born, being a professor or associate professor, having at least a low level of publications, and being located in the West. In contrast, Asian Americans either are negatively affected by the same characteristics or experience very small and statistically non-significant positive effects," Professor Lee wrote.

This minor will provide an excellent opportunity for interested students to acquire a multicultural understanding of the U.S. and provide a context for students who want to continue their studies in a professional school graduate program, work in the fields of education, politics, or community relations or broaden their horizons beyond a specific discipline for personal enhancement and development. The minor will offer students an opportunity to study a coherent multidisciplinary program in Asian American Studies. Minor Requirements: The Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will certify that a student has completed the program for the Minor upon recommendation by the Director of the Asian American Studies Program. An advisor will approve a student's course program and monitor the student's progress in meeting course requirements. A students plan of courses for the minor must be approved by the Asian American Studies Program. A minimum grade point average of 2.75 is required for completion of courses taken in this program. The minor requires 21 hours of courses selected from each of the following categories. No course may be used to satisfy more that one requirement. Only two courses at the 100-level may be credited for the minor.
