Extractions: The U.S.S. Alaric currently does not charge local membership dues. However, since the Alaric is a Starfleet chapter, in order to join the Alaric, you must first join Starfleet . When you join, you will receive a member packet which includes a Little White Card (LWC, or LBWC). To join the Alaric, bring this verification to a meeting, or mail it to the Alaric chapter president at the address below: U.S.S. Alaric The first step is to renew your membership with Starfleet . Once you receive your membership packet, send a copy of your membership card to the chapter president. It is important that you renew your Starfleet membership 2 to 3 months in advance, since it might take that long for headquarters to process it. Other means of verification include an address label from the national newsletter, or a canceled check or money order in case of delays. Alaric Meeting Schedule

Extractions: Summary: Alaskan Trek is a CD ROM, mac and windows program designed for children ages 6-10 (although I had major difficulty operating it). It teaches about plants and animals of Alaska through a variety of excellent exploration simulations, unfortunately it is so user unfriendly that anyone with no patience would give up immediately. I'm not sure all the applications are very relevant to real-life. They may just be some way of incorporating other disciplines into this integrated unit. I would nor recommend purchasing this software unless you were doing a unit on Alaska and had money to burn. Reviewer: Jenn Parcell Software Name: Alaskan Trek Summary: Zurks Alaskan Trail is a Macintosh or Windows program. It is run directly off of the CD ROM drive but a portion of the material will need to be downloaded onto the harddrive. The software serves as a wonderful resource for information pertaining to the way of life Alaskans must lead. It has activities that also address mathematic and scietific situations that a discoverer might face. The most significant weakness is the slow rate at which it responds to the users requests. The greates stregth is the unbelievable amount of information that is available to the user. I strongly recommend that this software be used primarily as a research material.

Puzzling artifacts have been found at this site in Turkey - thousands of clay balls, a goddess-like figurine in a grain storage area, burials beneath living quarters, bear paws, and murals. The archaeologists offer their interpretations, and invite input from kids, who can type in their thoughts. Mystery cards are designed to allow further investigation of a body found with owl pellets scattered about, and that of a baby buried with beads. Games, a virtual exhibit, animations, and slide shows add to a fresh, engaging look at what might have been the very first city. Rating: 10 out of 10 AD
