5-0 out of 5 stars Tried and Tested Comes out Tops
Collin Towers starts his information-rich text by focusing on answering the key question: "How will we all manage to stay healthy and maintain a higher quality of life as we age, and can we slow down or stop the aging process?" After describing eight excellent food sources of the most common antioxidants, Collin stresses the need to supplement one's diet with nutritional supplements, including especially Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and DHEA. Collin argues that the "key to becoming younger and healthier is simply avoiding the accelerating aging program everybody else is on." He finds that the "clincher" lies in the fact that "growing old is not due to aging, it is due to all the toxic chemicals that people consume, combined with their chronic nutritional deficiencies, lack of physical and mental exercise, and unhealthy life styles." The build-up of toxic materials resulting from lack of cellular efficiency in getting rid of damaged protein can be counteracted by the correct diet. Collin argues that you can start your own reverse-aging program by making just a couple of simple changes.

By taking steps to stop the damage that homocysteine and free radicals cause, you can not only protect yourself from dangerous age-related health conditions, but also slow down the aging process. Collin advocates adopting 17 habits, as well as calorie restriction (CR), as an effective means of increasing longevity and prolonging good health. He then discusses the possible downside of different methods of detoxification.

Collin explains why all exercise programs must include flexibility training, aerobic, endurance workouts, and strength and interval training. He then reveals the secrets of his own personal exercise routine and regimen.

Listing the top ten foods that help with weight loss, Collin urges his readers to stick to a diet consisting of 50 to 75 percent raw foods--a diet consisting of raw fruits, vegetables, seeds and grains. After describing the top ten foods for improving your sex drive and keeping you younger, he then lists the top 21 functional foods - those foods that promote health and reduce the risk of chronic disease - explaining the beneficial effects to be gained from the consumption of each.
.
After introducing sun gazing as an option for spiritual growth and health benefits, Collin shares the secrets of his own sunshine routine and regimen. Insisting on dietary supplementation to prevent chronic disease, he argues in favour of liquid, rather than pill, multivitamins. Collin holds that high quality supplements can improve your health, increase your energy, prevent illnesses, improve your sexual performance, and slow the aging process. He lists supplements, nutrients, super-foods, and health products that he has used, or is using daily and/or weekly for his reverse-aging regimen and protocol. His brief description of the efficacy of each ends with a URL where you can go to get more detailed information, or purchase, them.

In brief, this is an informative book that serves as both a directory and a singularly persuasive reference guide, well worth keeping at your bedside! [Reviewer for [...]]

4-0 out of 5 stars A Bit Convoluted And A Little Overwhelming Information On Anti-Aging, But It's Good Stuff!
Reversing the aging process is something many people would like to make happen for themselves. There are books galore on the subject and most of them haven't got a clue what they're talking about. But when you've lived it for yourself like J. Collin Towers has, it's hard not to believe it can happen to you, too.

Here's a 60-year old man who has done what he needs to do through diet, exercise, supplementation, sleep, and detoxification to have the biological age of a 40-something! Towers contends "aging is a choice" and he has chosen to put himself in the best position possible to keep himself fit, trim, and as "young" as he can possibly be. His methods for getting there may sound somewhat familiar to people following the latest scientific advances in nutrition and health.

- Keep insulin levels low by avoiding sugar
- Don't over indulge on refined carbohydrates
- Stay away from starchy foods
- Avoid overcooked food and toxins in your meals
- Consume adequate fiber daily
- Use coconut oil in cooking for health and weight benefits
- Exercise regularly
- Eat enough protein to preserve muscle mass
- Get plenty of free radical-fighting antioxidants
- Beware of pharmaceutical drugs
- De-stress your life as much as possible

These are all excellent strategies to implement for anyone desiring weight loss and health improvements. However, there were a few concepts Towers shared that I thought were a bit off the beaten path from my experience. He promotes "calorie restriction" but doesn't really say what levels calories need to be at. Is it 1500? 1000? 500? Who knows? He mentions controlling insulin levels (vitally important to this conversation), but isn't quite as explicit in saying that it is carbohydrate control that makes that happen.

Then in a seemingly conflicting recommendation to his previous mandate to avoid prescription drugs, Towers promotes and advocates the diabetes medication Metformin as a "metabolic rejuvenator" that is an important part of the anti-aging process. While I don't have a personal issue with this particular medication taking it myself for a 10-week period, but isn't it contradictory to blast pharmaceuticals and then recommending one? To his credit, natural alternatives to taking Metformin are shared in the book which include eating low-glycemic index foods and taking in plenty of antioxidants through a variety of foods and supplements.

But there is ample information provided within the 500+ pages of this book about the vitamins and minerals that can help lead you on the right pathway to being healthy and younger: magnesium, vitamin D, vitamin B, fish oil, and so much more. In fact, there is so much information provided in page after page that it can seem overwhelming at times. I had some trouble trying to understand why certain things were tied together like they were thematically and wondering if maybe some better formatting might help assimilate the information better. To his credit, for the most part Towers kept it on topic.

Promoting whole foods like real raw milk, berries, non-starchy vegetables like broccoli and spinach, avocados, stevia, raw cheese, butter, salt, and grass-fed animal products, this book is a walking-talking encyclopedia of information designed to take away the arguments people have of living healthy. It's not impossible if you are willing to Stop Growing Older...Grow Younger!

4-0 out of 5 stars Provides a wealth of information for the reader to consider, if they wish to improve their own health.
"Stop Growing Older... Grow Younger" contains a massive, almost overwhelming, amount of information regarding methods the author claims will not only keep a person from aging, but will reverse the aging process. Some of the suggestions J Collin Towers offers are not unexpected. He suggests getting plenty of exercise, including strength training, and he touts the benefits of drinking plenty of water. He also spends pages talking about good nutrition and the importance of eating lean meats, unrefined whole grains, and plenty of fruits and vegetables, especially those rich in antioxidants. When he discusses specific nutrients, Towers includes several helpful lists of the most beneficial foods, including a list of functional foods, which "promot[e] health and provide more than basic nutrition." He also recommends many lesser known treatments to heal and restore the body, including ozone therapy, use of magnetism, and supplements that would be unfamiliar to the majority of people.

Towers has done extensive research into health and fitness. Unfortunately, most of the information is poorly cited and from potentially unreliable internet sources, and the reference list does not appear to be as long as one would expect for a book this large and full of information. While it's very possible that much of the information contained in the book is accurate and factual, it is difficult for the reader to sort through. Collins encourages the reader to form their own opinion about the methods and products mentioned in his book, however, this would be made easier if the sources of information were better documented. An index would also be very helpful and would improve the book's value as a resource. Perhaps these concerns could be addressed in a later edition.

Overall, "Stop Growing Older..." provides a wealth of information for the reader to consider, if they wish to improve their own health. However, readers should be warned not to take the advice verbatim without doing their own research.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't you want to feel younger?
Yesterday I turned 55, which came as a shock to me. I certainly don't feel like I am 55. You see, I read J Collin Towers' book, Stop Growing Older, Grow Younger, and followed just a few pieces of his advice, and it works!

I lost 15 pounds, and increased my stamina. And when I started taking some of the supplements he suggested, I felt my mood and mental outlook improve.

I actually did speak to my doctor before starting on any of this and he gave his approval; he said that this book had some sound advice that would certainly improve my health.

This book isn't for a casual read; it doesn't have any cutesy stories. But it is a powerhouse of advice, a virtual encyclopedia of information. Mr. Powers wrote it with logic and lots of detail. As you go through the chapters, adding new supplements and regimens, you really will start to feel better.

I was also amazed at the author's energy; he is a dynamo. I figured, if he has this much energy and is 5 years older than me, he must be doing something right.

Try it and you will be pleasantly shocked on your next birthday.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible!
This is the very first time ever I've attempted to write a review, so please bear with me. I'm just so excited about this book, that it has forced me to overcome my shyness and try to express how truly amazing it is. I can't emphasize just how beneficial this book is to everyone, not JUST "baby-bommers". Everyone who reads this book will not only add years to their life, but quality years worth living way beyond their expectations. This book is not only about looking great, but getting your body back to the way nature intended you to be both inside and out. Believe me, this NOT your average copycat, "health" book. In fact, it's like nothing you've ever seen before. J Collin Towers has done extensive research from every angle and reveals his source's websites as well as some phone numbers to contact them. He includes his own regiment for sucessfully "turning back the clock" to literally looking and feeling like a 40 year old man, when he turned 60 on his last birthday. Give the gift of many happy and healthy years for not only yourself, but for those you love. Buy this book, it will be the greatest investment you'll ever need for longevity.
