5-0 out of 5 stars Horribly outdated in the GWOT... Great historical reference
I've owned two copies of this book for the last decade - one for everyday browsing and research, and a "shelf" copy for posterity. This has been my most overused book during my Air Force research days. The graphics and tables of information have no peer, and the amount of information available would rival a hostile intelligence agency's database on USAF equipment. It would be a boon to the military aviation world to have an updated copy created, showing the changes of the last decade and a half.

One downside, in a historical context... even being printed after the end of the Cold War, it had some MAJOR errors dealing with units in TAC, SAC and MAC... also, not much information was covered about intercontinental ballistic missiles. The coverage was comparable to air-launched missiles... I hate to say, ICBMs are more important than air-launched missiles, with a bit larger scale impact and complex logistics chain. Nukes rock, and this book glossed over the ICBM wings and mission. Not a showstopper - get a copy cheap if you can find it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very complete, accurate listing of all air force units
This book is the most accurate and complete listing off all Air Force units.World Air Power Journal has the best photographers in the business and the book is very easy to follow. All units, weaponry, tail codes, whatever you wish to find is included here. The only down side to the bookis that is was printed pre-base closings, reallignments. It was printedright when reallignments were happening and it did have some insideinformation on who was closing and who was relocating. Some information onunits is no longer accurate though.I am being picky though, theinaccurate information is extremely limited. For the most part this bookis well worth the investment.I also recommend the Navy/Marine Corpsversion. ...
