Denver International Airport obviously derives it's superb design FORM, from it'scontext in the native locale and region of the majestic 14,000 foot highmountains of DENVER. "Gateway to the West" contains the bestpublished architectural photography anyone could expect.It could be arguedthat the informed reader would make comparisons or analogies of Denverairport with Sarinnen's Dulles Airport or his soaring TWA airport at JFK,in N.Y.

The success of the airport's execution by Master ARCHITECTSFentress & Bradburn (& winters) sets the standard for futureairports world-wide.

In fact we see that this internationally world-classArchitectural Firm has already accomplished a self-fullfilling prophecy, byaccepting several more world-flung Airport Design comissions in the MiddleEast and Far East, as well as in the U.S.

Excerpt: Operation Entebbe was a hostage-rescue mission carried out by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at Entebbe Airport in Uganda on July 4, 1976. A week earlier, on June 27, an Air France plane with 300 passengers was hijacked by Palestinian terrorists and flown to Entebbe, near Kampala, the capital of Uganda. Shortly after landing, all non-Jewish passengers were released. The IDF acted on intelligence provided by Israeli secret agency Mossad. In the wake of the hijacking by members of the militant organizations Revolutionary Cells and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, along with the hijackers' threats to kill the hostages if their prisoner release demands were not met, the rescue operation was planned. These plans included preparation for armed resistance from Ugandan military troops. The operation took place under cover of darkness, as Israeli transport planes carried 100 elite commandos over 2,500 miles (4,000 km) to Uganda for the rescue operation. The operation, which took a week of planning, lasted 90 minutes and 103 hostages were rescued. Five Israeli commandos were wounded and one, commander Netanyahu, was killed. All the hijackers, three hostages and 45 Ugandan soldiers were killed, and 11 Russian-built MiG fighters of Uganda's air force were destroyed. The new airport, built at a cost of 19.8 billion yuan, is 28 kilometers (17 statute miles) from downtown Guangzhou and nearly 5 times larger than its predecessor. The opening of the New Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport had relieved most of the controversies of the older and deteriorated airport because of the limited space, overcrowding and lack of expansions. Its opening allowed it to overcome curfews and restrictions and begin a 24 hour operation. This meant that China Southern Airlines could highly utilize their intercontinental routes by flying overnight. Other airlines have this benefit too. Citizens of Montello collaborated with eteam for years in the making of this airport, commissioned by Art in General.
