5-0 out of 5 stars really nice
A really nice, colorful and useful book for coaches and those who want to understand own body motions while playing golf.

5-0 out of 5 stars With color anatomical illustrations to each golf move, this is a top pick!
GOLF ANATOMY provides a fine review of the anatomy and muscles required to become a good golfer. It provides keys to increasing strength and power for longer drives and more accurate shots, considering the physical elements that contribute to consistent performance. With color anatomical illustrations to each golf move, this is a top pick!

1-0 out of 5 stars Too Overwhelming for Recreational Players
This book presents a catalog of seventy-two exercises for those intent on developing a tour quality golf swing. Unfortunately, it fails to offer a useful limited program for those recreational players whose ambitions are more realistic.

The book is handsomely illustrated and I enjoy paging through it while watching television. Meanwhile, I will continue swimming and playing golf with the body I pretty much have. The difference between 82 and 72 isn't all that important, at least not to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I have been a casual golfer now for over 15 years. I decided last year to start working on improving all aspects of my game. I had been growing frustrated lately with my lack of progress until a friend recommended this book to me. I have been doing the exercises outlined in this book for six weeks now. There is a marked improvement in my posture upon address of the ball and balance during my swing. This has translated into more consistent ball striking and lower scoring. It has reignited a fire to improve my swing and ball striking. I am excited to experience the progression in my game, as I progress through this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for any golfer!
I am a Pilates instructor who specializes in corrective exercise.I've been using this program with my golfing clients who suffer from chronic back pain, stiffness, restrictions in the hips, etc. and the results are amazing!They've seen improvements in all aspects of their game.I especially like the diagrams and the way each exercises targets specific aspects of the golf swing.This program will improve your overall strength and fitness which will not only affect your game but your quality of life as well! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars great info, sub-par for coloring
I'm a first year med student. I have both this book and The Anatomy Coloring Book by Kapit and Elson. I prefer the Netter's for the information content, but the drawings are so much better in the other. Netter is wonderful as an atlas, but because the drawings have just been adapted for coloring, they aren't really suited for the purpose. It's difficult to tell the borders of muscles, and I have colored things incorrectly more than once. The drawings in The Anatomy Coloring Book were drawn and labeled with coloring in mind, and therefore are much more clear. However, that book is seriously lacking in information about the muscles--if it had origin/insertion/action tables, it would be perfect. Overall, I think I prefer The Anatomy Coloring Book to the Netter's coloring book, and I would recommend that one first. (The Anatomy Coloring Book also covers nerves and vessels more thoroughly, and includes helpful sections for neuroanatomy, embryology, and even histology. It also has really helpful quizzes throughout.)

As far as the overall concept, I've found coloring to be quite helpful when learning anatomy. I use it for my first overview of the area we are learning--I don't expect to learn everything I know this way, but it gives me a good place to start. And it's fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book...
I LOVE this coloring book. There's also plenty of information in the book. It makes studying anatomy so much fun!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but basic
This book is very good if you have little anatomy background. However I got this book to review anatomy and prepare me for my 3rd year of medical school, and I was disappointed at how basic the book was. Although it did have all the main points, it was missing a lot of the details I had come to expect from my other Netter's anatomy books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Study Tool!
Though I feel silly coloring like a kid, this book has helped me review anatomy, and has even taught me some! I am a visual learner and it is great for me to study, color, and study again. The book has very detailed images, but also make it easy to distinguish complex parts and systems from each other. There are also multiple levels of learning possible-basic structures can be learned, but more in-depth detail (origins, insertions, innervations etc) are also present. I highly recommend this book as a tool to review or learn anatomy!

5-0 out of 5 stars It is great.
It is great.The only improvement I would make would be to have additional views for a couple of the body cavities.It is sometimes difficult to visualized the orientation of specific anatomy without additional views.
Overall, extremely detailed and great text descriptions. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars There are much better books available
As an artist looking to enhance my skill set I was looking for a book that would bridge the gap. This book however, fell pretty flat. For one the majority (over 60%) of the diagrams are very lack luster and rudimentary pencil sketches that will not help anyone with even a remote drawing ability. It doesn't help anyone who wishes to see how the muscle groups and joint actually move either. I would suggest you pay a little more money and get the professional anatomy books that are available.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great anatomy book!
Atlas of Human Anatomy For the Artist is an excellent book. I found it in a college library and after borrowing it for two weeks, I knew I had to buy my own copy. It is very thorough on the subject of human anatomy and goes into specifics regarding the differences in gender,age, andbody mass. I read alot of anatomy books and have not come across too many willing to go beyond the ideal body type. I found it especially helpful that this book provides detailed drawings and photographs of the figure; some books only have rough sketches which are not very helpful. This book is not just for those who want to draw the figure; those who model the figure in 3D applications will also find it useful. Atlas of Human Anatomy For the Artistis not the only anatomy book an artist or animator will need, but it is an excellent addition to their personal library.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, But not Great
This is an okay anatomical reference book, it does a good job covering skeletal construction and isolated body parts but I found it lacking in the areas of musculature and the human form as a whole. While not without merit, there are better references out there.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good but....
I expected a little more detail, i suppose...but overall, itz a pretty good book...shows u how to draw realistically...it is a bit outdated as it was published in the 1950s but it is very cheap so itz worth it...in some of the pics...the male models' private parts were blotted out. funny...

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best value anatomy reference books
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R7Q3TFH23OSWP Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist by Stephen Rogers Peck is an anatomy reference book.

It covers everything from bones, to muscles to topics like fat, veins, hair, age, sex, race and expression. There are some photos for reference as well. The writeup is descriptive and simple to understand. The examples are well illustrated and clearly labeled. It's pretty comprehensive.

While it also has some figure drawing tips and instructions, it certainly is not as comprehensive as dedicated figure drawing books. Here, it's on the approach to drawing certain parts. There's not much on posing the figure.

I see this book get mentioned a lot on art forums online, for good reasons. It's useful and very affordable.

This book's recommended to beginner and intermediate artists.

5-0 out of 5 stars My A&P book
This book will be used in both my A&P I and II classes, so it's a good bang-for-your-buck, so to speak.I am into Chapter 5 of this book and so far, I love it!It has everything and is easy to study with - the text is worded clearly, the font size is good, the tables, diagrams and pictures are relevant and clear, the self-quizzes are placed strategically to keep you focused (they are detailed and good), and the clinical connection boxes are not obtrusive (yet interesting and helpful if you want them).Additionally, this book comes with a card with a code on it, which you use to log into the publisher's website.There you find an enormous amount of extra study tools related directly to the text (of course!) - and they are fantastic, may I add.This book is just plainly a great resource for A&P students and beyond, I would think.I would highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!

1-0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous
I am furious after dealing with TextBooksRus and will never do business with them or any amazon user who works with them.They sent me a horrendous book, supposed to be in "Good" condition.I paid $100 for a book that came with ripped pages, and a heavily worn cover.I have pictures upon opening the package that I will upload.I dropped the class and when I tried to return the book, TextbooksRus refused to take it back.Completely unsatisfied.

5-0 out of 5 stars fast and efficient
The book came reasonably quickly.I would mention that it didn't come with the CD that usually accompanies the book when you purchase it new... but I got it used, for a great price, so I wasn't really expecting the CD.There was only minimal underlining/highlighting/marginal notes, not at all a problem.The book is well written, has easy to read diagrams, and explains Human anatomy in a nice overview that isn't too indepth nor does it gloss over everything.Overall, I was very happy with the service from the seller, and from the book itself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Book!!
The other book we had got horribly disfigured from water damage.We were not sure if we could find this particular book again, because of the publication date.However, Amazon came through once again and had the book in extremely good condition!!Thanks Amazon.

4-0 out of 5 stars very easy to understand
the book is being used for my human anatomy class, and its pretty helpful with the simple to understand images and text. good for learning complex stuff in a simple manner. recommend for highschool-early college students.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for Basic Course
This is an excellent source for a basic understanding of Anatomy and Physiology.Just note that any such class requires a lot of memorization.There are a lot of terms, and names for things to remember.This book makes it more interesting my adding stories and relating the information to real life or job situations.It helps to put things into perspective.The images are not always clear, but, when used with the workbook designed for the course, everything comes clear.

I was not particularly pleased with the CD's that came with the book, but they do contain all the images from the book as an aid to studying. ... Read more

Product Description
The crimes of Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Dennis Rader, and other high-profile killers are so breathtakingly awful that most people would not hesitate to label them 'evil'. In this ground-breaking book, renowned psychiatrist Michael H Stone - host of Discovery Channel's former series "Most Evil" - uses this common emotional reaction to horrifying acts as his starting point to explore the concept and reality of evil from a new perspective. In an in-depth discussion of the personality traits and behaviour that constitute evil across a wide spectrum, Dr Stone takes a clarifying scientific approach to a topic that for centuries has been inadequately explained by religious doctrines. Basing his analysis on the detailed biographies of over 600 violent criminals, Stone has created a 22-level hierarchy of evil behaviour, which loosely reflects the structure of Dante's Inferno. He traces two salient personality traits that run the gamut from those who commit crimes of passion to perpetrators of the worst crimes - sadistic torture and murder. One trait is narcissism, as exhibited in people who are so self-centred that they have little or no ability to care about their victims. The other is aggression, the use of power over another person to inflict humiliation, suffering, and death. Stone then turns to the various factors that, singly or intertwined, contribute to pushing certain people over the edge into committing heinous crimes. They include heredity, adverse environments, violence-prone cultures, mental illness or brain injury, and abuse of mind-altering drugs. All are considered in the search for the root causes of evil behaviour. What do psychology, psychiatry, and neuroscience tell us about the minds of those whose actions could be described as evil? And what will that mean for the rest of us? Stone discusses how an increased understanding of the causes of evil will affect the justice system. He predicts a day when certain persons can safely be declared salvageable and restored to society and when early signs of violence in children may be corrected before potentially dangerous patterns become entrenched. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome book!
I'm not a criminologist or psychologist.Just a special ed. teacher.I checked this book out from the library, but ended up buying it because I thought it was so great.Gave me a greater insight into other people's behavior, including my SPED students, past relationships, and future dates.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Books I've Ever Read!
This is one of the best books I have ever read.I came away from reading it enlightened about why people commit violent acts.The book is scholarly, yet written without intellectual pretension--a combination as desirable as it is rare!

Initially, I had actually checked this book out of the library, but I ended up purchasing a copy for my own personal reference.

4-0 out of 5 stars Evil as Part of Everyday Life
Stone has written a solid account of how violent criminals operate and what their characteristics are. He provides a lot of summaries about some of the worst criminals and does some scientific analysis of why they commit violent acts. The book goes between pure academic analysis and sensational story telling; it is neither of both. He has a love of the classics and shows off some of his learning by making references to them, especially Dante's Inferno, which he uses as a scale for how evil each violent criminal is. I did not understand the purpose behind ratings though. The book lacks original insight into the subject. Given the subject, it is disturbing reading at times. When they are not committing violent acts, these criminals can seem rather normal.

As far as violent criminals' characteristics go, they often have the three characteristics in their youth of violence against pet animals, fire-starting, and bed wetting. In their adult years, they may move on to violence against humans. Often these children grow up unloved, unwanted, and abused. These violent criminals are narcissistic and lack empathy for other people's feelings. They have failed to become socialized by good parental care. Occasionally, violent criminals can come from good homes though. They often deny their crimes and show no remorse for their actions. Stone thinks that both genes and environment influence violent behavior in a 50/50 split. Sometimes these criminals have had a severe head injury which reduces their inhibitions or they are on drugs or alcohol which reduces their inhibitions to do evil. They no longer have the mental "brakes" to stop acting out violent fantasies. Although most people have violent fantasies, only rarely do individuals act them out. In the sense that we have violent fantasies that often are unleashed during wartime, we are not very far away from becoming violent criminals, except for the inhibitions, empathy, and moral reasoning that holds us back. Violent criminals can often have a superficial charm that can manipulate people in to doing what they want. This leads people into getting lured into becoming their victim or victimizing others.

Some of these violent criminals have received some incredibly light sentences for their crimes and are often put back on the streets again to produce more mayhem. Stone proposes that criminals that show no signs of remorse or change in behavior should stay in prison if they are determined to be still dangerous. He does think that those who haveshown remorse and have changed their behavior should be let back into society again, even though they have taken the lives of others that they will never get back. He is a cautious liberal going between the ideas of "Hang `em high!" or "Give them therapy!" for violent criminals.

3-0 out of 5 stars Confusing arrangement but tells some good stories!
This book does a good job of highlighting some very interesting cases of people who did horrible things and acted in what would universally be considered an evil fashion.The idea of classifying them is intriguing and works for the first part of the book.The second party of the book where the definitions are entirely clinical is where the book becomes less mainstream and more a text book.

Good for any crime buffs but more of a technical book.

2-0 out of 5 stars pruient
i too thought this book highly prurient.had he titled it "stories of psychopaths' or something tothat affect it would have made more sense.

it is not a scientific volume, but a travelogue of Dr. Stone visits to the some adultIsland of the Damned. I suppose the title was a take-off on the Anatomy of a Murder or some such ilk.

not that i wasn't entertained, i was.as was some of the killers he profiled who were titillated by stories and pictures of others committing crimes. It is titillating! sort of like that video,'The Faces of Death'

i was puzzled by his descriptions of the revulsion he took with some interviewees. wasn't he on medical research?

'Evil'...well in his introduction he delaminates his notion of evil from what most lay people would consider to be evil, that is some devil spawn or such. and then he uses the term literally hundreds of times throughout the tome with only fleeting reference to his own difference from contemporaty usage.

i can't for the life of me understand why he persists with the notion of evil at all...it is not scientific in the slightest.

i think his approach to the subject and case studies of dozens of dangerous and murderous individuals is marred by a pedestrian attempt to appeal to prurience with the notion of evil as the book binder.

but...and its a big but...his case studies along with descriptive backgrounds and labeling according to DSM and his own Gradations of Evil Scale gives one a good idea of who and what and why these dangerously inclined individuals are. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Reference Book to haul EVERYWHERE
I purchased this book for the following reasons:

1.I needed something to assist me in condensing, and simplifying the main points for each subject
2.I needed something to help me REFRESH what I read in the more intensive required text - Human Anatomy and Physiology (8th Ed. Marieb)
3.I wanted something small that I could fit in my purse and still keep reading wherever and whenever I got the chance

Of course with any Anatomy class the material can be so overwhelming and intensive that it was comforting for me to grab Anatomy and Physiology Cliffs Quick Review for the sole purpose ofreinforcing what I read in the required (Marieb) text.What I love about this book is that my midterm was on 7 chapters.I felt so overwhelmed that I didn't know where to start so I picked up this book and read the 7 chapters covered (which was about 50 pages in Cliff's review).What I had learned from the required text started coming back to me and I was able to feel more confident taking my midterm. I would suggest "A&P Cliff's Review" for its size and convenience and remembering key points.I also purchasedBarron's "Anatomy and Physiology (2nd Ed) The Easy Way" which is bigger, and a little more helpful in understanding more than just key points.This book (Barron's) really helped reinforce what you learn with helpful review questions after each chapter.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Review
This book was a big help with review of material. If I did not understand a concept
I went to a book with pictures. Also, questions at end of chapter helped.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes you learn ASAP!
This is an awesome study book.. I have never studied anatomy and Physiology and as soon as I started reading the first chapter I learned so much. The information is broken down so its easier to remember. I recommend it big time for those who are struggling in the subject or those who just want to be more prepared!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
This is not going to take the place of your text, but this book gets to the point. It's condensed and concise. If you sat through lectures, at least half awake, it is possible to get a decent grade on an exam using this study guide. Stuff happens, sometimes you don't study the way you intended and before you know it, it's crunch time.I did okay on my exam using Cliffs.Also, this book is good to cement what you've read in text. Often, anatomy books get a little wordy. You know, some anatomy/P textbooks are written to read "deliberately" complicated. Thisbook hits key points...bam... and on to the next. It covers each organ system, has good info on bone types, tissue types, joints.,etc..It has general O and I on major muscles and even has a little chemistry in the mix. It's very useful. ... Wanted to deal with some of the aches and pains of cycling. Specifically, I wanted to find out how to strengthen my neck and shoulders which were bothering me on long rides.This book was a great help.Showed me the muscle groups and gave strengthening exercises.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
This book is excellent! I found it in my township library and after few days realized that I need my own copy. Though I am not a cyclist, exercises in this book are so good, that I use them regularly. I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific read with tons of exercises and examples
This book is a must read for any serious cyclist.Dr. Sovndahl covers a plethora of exercises and explains why they are beneficial.I appreciate the holistic approach that is taken to the book, and it really puts the reader in a good mind set before developing a training plan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Cycling Anatomy has been a great help in identifyig exercise to development the right muscle groups for cycling

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book linking cycling skills to weight training
Easy to understand, this book provides a clear explanation of the muscles used in cycling and how (and why) you should train them. As the book states (and other reviews note) it doesn't provide a work out - you have to decide which exercises make sense for you based on gym resources available and the areas you want to work on. I carry it with me on every trip to the gym. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Atlas for Beginners
This work is far superior to the other atlases I used in the past, primarily Gray's and occasionally Grant's.I found this one to be much each easier to use and understand.The organization is designed to help you understand how each portion of the body being examined works down to the arteries, veins, nerves, and lymph nodes.The pictures of each of these areas are superb.I am not in the medical field but occasionally in my own legal practice I need to understand the workings of the body.I recently had a case where the plaintiff presented with a severe ankle injury due to a work-related industrial accident and this atlas allowed me to understand easily the extent of the injuries (broken bones, severed nerves) and how they related to each other and the rest of the body.Highly recommended as a reference work.

1-0 out of 5 stars Took EXTREMELY long.
I ordered an anatomy textbook exactly two weeks ago and I still have yet to receive it. Considering it is a textbook, you would think that they would try to have it delivered in a timely manner. I have ordered used textbooks from various amazon sellers many times and I always choose standard shipping. Every other order arrived no later than a week and a half after it was ordered. I ordered another book the same day that I ordered the anatomy textbook and it arrived over a week ago.I would HIGHLY discourage you from buying from this seller if you need the book quickly.

5-0 out of 5 stars great alternative to Netter
Netter and Gilroy do a great job as Atlases. Neither one trumps over the other; rather, the decision comes down to the preference of the user to have one image with a sea of labels (Netter) vs. many images (thus sometimes having to paginate through the images) with few labels (Gilroy). It also may be a matter of "What does my school use and therefore use as reference pages on the dissection manual?" While my school uses Netter as it is older than Gilroy and requires less page turning in the lab, I own a Gilroy for personal learning as it provides many views of one structure. It is often easier to look at a page in Netter after looking at the structure in Gilroy as you have a more orthogonal view of the structure. That being said, Netter is not completely lacking of such views either. All in all, both atlases are great. If it comes down to cost, then pick the cheaper one or pick the one that your school has a discount with.

5-0 out of 5 stars great!
only a few folds from the packaging and shipping.the book was in perfect condition otherwise, and not written in or highlighted anywhere - the most important aspect for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!!!
I have always been told to use a Netter's for Gross Anatomy.I decided to embrace the rebel in me and go against the grain with the Thieme. Best decision I have ever made.I love the way the book is organized.It layers structures on different depths so that you can create a 3D image in your mind.... Def a must have if you are taking a Gross class! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book!
This is an excellent book for any runner who wants to design strength exercise for injury prevention and performance improvement. It explains how each muscle group works in our running, how they can be trained, and how that training improves our running. Exercises also explained with illustrations so that you can visualize how you are supposed to perform them. Most exercises also have alternatives that work on the same muscle group so that if you don't like a particular exercise, you can substitute it with another one that has similar benefits.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Bit Too Technical For Me
I was super excited to get this one. I've been a somewhat serious runner since 1994, running moderate distances (anywhere from three to seven miles at a clip) and have recently returned to a regular running schedule after a six month hiatus. I figured a more technical text would give me the edge to improve my speed and distances.

Unfortunately, this one is a bit too technical for my taste.

While it does include a lot of weight training routines designed to build the muscles needed for strength, speed and general good running form, I feel as if I've seen all this information elsewhere - like Runner's World or Women's Fitness magazines. It's nice to have it all in one place, I suppose, but it feels a bit redundant to me. As far as the opening chapters of the book, this was where I kind of zoned out. I imagine a coach or seriously competitive runner might find a lot of really great stuff here, but I was having a difficult time concentrating on sections with titles like, "Results of the Training Progression Model," and "Event Specific Body Characteristics."

I think this is a great resource for dedicated athletes interested in serious training, but I'm not really qualified to review it from that perspective. For a casual runner like myself, I'd recommend skipping the first third of the book, which is a bit intimidating, and focusing on the weight training information in the back, particularly the butt-kicking core and lower body workouts, which I've begun to incorporate into my new, tougher, regimen. Hopefully, this will be just the thing to get me back in top form.

5-0 out of 5 stars The title says it all!
An excellent presentation of anatomy and how your muscles affect your running (and vice-versa).The muscle specific strength exercises are the key to this book w/good illustrations, step-by-step instructions, pointers on technique, and explanations of how the affected muscles impact your running.Highly recommended for anyone interested in running-specific strength training either for performance or rehabilitation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Any sports or general library catering to runners needs this approach
RUNNING ANATOMY offers a fine illustrated guide to running strength and building endurance that focuses on improving such performance by increasing strength and optimizing running efficiency. Fifty of the most effective strength exercises for runners accompany step-by-step directions and anatomical illustrations showing these muscles in action. Any sports or general library catering to runners needs this approach.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative
I think that is an excellent book for people who have a good base of knowledge about the human body and its anatomy.It is a must for anyone who runs and especially for those with minor injuries and aggravations such a patellar tendonitis,patellar femoral syndrome;aka "runners knee" and shin splints.
There are no suggested running programs in this book, just solid information and advice on how to avoid injuries, how your body moves in the gait cycle and different exercises you can do to build the strength and flexibility you need to be a successful runner. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Another faulty e-edition
The book deserves 5 stars, but not this electronic edition.Something has gone wrong with this edition: Only the sample of this edition has a linked TOC.Also, all the mostly unreadable Latin is there. It seems that the edition you get is not the one you expect. Oh well, it is cheap.

1-0 out of 5 stars Be cautious which edition you purchase!
The Anatomy of Melancholy may be a worthwhile read. However, the publication of this text by CreateSpace (check the publisher for the book you're considering) is awful! It's ugly, cheaply produced, and missing large quantities of text without reason or explanation.

To begin, the cover is an eyesore. The plain black text indicating the title and author is surrounded by a hideous orange border. "Voted #1" is emblazoned in the corner; a tacky, transparent marketing ploy. I would be embarrassed to have someone see this book on my bookshelf.

Opening this tastelessly bound book, after being warned that the contents may not be accurate due to the rapidly changing nature of the internet (???), you will find that the text appears to have been formatted in Microsoft Word. It is hideous and pretty much unreadable.

If one does make the mistake of trying to read it, one will find that most of the book is missing! I think that this book may actually be "Part 1" of The Anatomy of Melancholy. Is the publisher even aware of this? Who knows. There is no introduction, no translations for the Latin passages, nothing. For all appearances, the publisher googled _The Anatomy of Melancholy_, copied the text he found into Microsoft Word, and printed out copies using a book binding machine he bought off of Ebay.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this publication. CreateSpace (aka Helpful Solutions) is manufacturing kindling, not literature. Buy the book from another publisher.

5-0 out of 5 stars anatomy of melancholy
Excellent condition but not exactly what I intended ordering.Billed as "Volume 1"but turned out to be all three volumes in one of the Everyman edition.Slight inaccuracy but I intended eventually to order the other volumes separately.Three for the price of one!

5-0 out of 5 stars My favourite book of all time
This book is unlike any other and it is hugely under-rated and under-appreciated. Every time I'm bored or depressed (or more usually, both), I crack it open and start reading on a random page. Burton is a comedian, a scholar and a sage rolled into one.

I love this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Take Small Bites!
There are many reviews of Burton's "Anatomy" ranging from the 'best book ever written' downwards. I have been involved with many editions of this work over the years, and have a couple of things to add to what's been so eloquently said. First, it's a reference book and not a novel, and therefore shouldn't be read in a continuous way. It becomes tedious and incomprehensible. Like grandma used to say: "Take small bites so you don't choke!" There are parts of it that are dated but much that is totally applicable today. Second, it is a book about society, and the hypocrisy of the way different people get treated:"A sheep-stealer is hanged for stealing necessary victuals but a great man in office may safely rob, pillage, and destroy, and be honored for good service, and no man had best find fault with him." This prefigures much of Enlightenment thinking and can be seen to relate to Culturalist Analytic thinking, like the works of Karen Horney. Third, it is a historical contemporary look at the Jacobean age, and even the Elizabethan world. If you're interested in the cultural climate of Shakespeare and his contemporaries, here is an overview of what was known and opined by a scholar. One wonders how melancholic he really was (in the modern sense) since the preparation and writing of such a compendium certainly requires motivation and energy, not generally associated with chronic depression. I would suggest the Preface and the Digression of Air as fascinating views of knowledge in the early 17th century. Even if you don't like it (which I didn't for about 5 years), it tends to grow on you as long as you go slow! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome review companion
i'm a second term med student and this book was a god-send for studying anatomy. very good questions with varying difficulty. must have for any med student.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good supplement to Grays but has errors
For the most part, this review book provides a good way to see whether or not you actually absorbed the material in Gray's for Students and can take that information to apply them to USMLE-style questions. The sections are divided like the Gray's textbook (Back, limbs, abdomen, etc). Each section has between 100-200 challenging board-style questions, some with accompanying images. Consequently, this book is very time-consuming and often times you will come across a question that really can't be answered by the information contained in the Gray's chapters alone. I find that supplementing Gray's with BRS Anatomy makes answering these questions and mastering the information a lot easier. Time-wise, you're probably looking at 3+ hours going through one section's questions and reading every word of the answers in the back of the book.

You will find that some of the answers in the back of the book cite an incorrect page reference (especially in the abdomen portion of this review book). This can be very frustrating since you don't know exactly what pages the question was derived from and a lot of times, I simply gave up trying to find the corresponding textbook pages. You should also know that the Gray's textbook really doesn't go into as much detail as these review questions. For some of the questions, you'll have to consult another resource to really understand why a certain choice is the correct answer (BRS, Moore's Clinical Anatomy, etc).

I subtracted one star for having numerous incorrect page references and another star for stating some iffy answers (wrong according to some anatomists). Overall, this review book is a good resource to have in preparation for an anatomy exam although BRS will probably be immensely more helpful in your studies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Needs Improvement
A good review for the board. However, it has some errors that will be hopefully fixed in its next edition.

4-0 out of 5 stars Book
The was promptly delivered and in good condition. I am very satistifed with the serivce.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource to utilize for Medical School Anatomy
As a first year medical student, it is quite a challenge to figure out which resources to use to study for exams. After attending lectures and studying my notes, this book was a great way to test my understanding of the material in preparation for my examinations. The explanations for each questions actually end up providing an excellent source to review the material presented in class. Although a bit challenging, the book provides a good example of the types of questions we might get on the USMLE exam. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I Wanted to Enjoy Anatomy of the Soul
When I first heard about Anatomy of the Soul by Curt Thompson, I was intrigued by the title and concept of the book. According to the description by reading this book I would be taking a "amazing journey to discover the surprising pathways for transformation hidden inside your own mind." Supposedly I would be able to take the latest finding of neuroscience and psychology, applying what's been learned to life and relationships.

Sadly, what I found in this book was not my cup of tea.

I found the subject matter (while certainly fascinating to neurosurgeons, psychologists, etc.) to be less compelling or interesting than I'd hoped. In short, I was bored relatively quickly. While I'm not an intellectual slouch, I found this book difficult to get through and didn't necessarily find it useful. It seems that as a Christian psychologist, Dr. Thompson issuggesting that many personal issues with which people struggle have less to do with emotion, heart, or will and are actually governed by our mind. However, this tends to suggest that the ability to change one's life rests with themselves rather than allowing God to work or change the individual. Additionally, the book is supposedly written for "the layman", but I personally did not enjoy Dr. Thompson's style of writing.

While I'm sure there are others who will consider this book to be a work of genius (and perhaps for those who strictly look to psychology for answers on the human condition it is), I do not recommend Anatomy of the Soul for the average reader seeking insight into spiritual/heart matters.

5-0 out of 5 stars The unique approach represents a smooth marriage between science and Christian belief
ANATOMY OF THE SOUL offers some detailed surveys of neuroscience and spiritual practices, and is designed to document how these connections can change spiritual approaches to life. The Christian spirituality foundation and blending of science shows how it's possible to rewire your mind, changing brain patterns to further a Godly approach to life and the soul. The unique approach represents a smooth marriage between science and Christian belief.

3-0 out of 5 stars A little more mind to issues of the heart
The balance between the body and the soul--the material and immaterial--has been a perennial tension for Christianity, dating all the way back to the early Christians dealing with Gnosticism. In Anatomy of the Soul, Curt Thompson is treading the same waters. However, the subtitle is a more accurate description of the book: "Surprising connections between neuroscience and spiritual practices that can transform your life and relationships".

The strengths of this book are not a surprise. As a psychiatrist, Thompson shares many accounts from his counseling sessions and shows how changing how we think about certain things--or don't think about them--can change the way we live. I imagine those who might benefit from a counseling session would benefit equally from reading this book.

There are weaknesses present however. Thompson seems to overemphasize the area of neuroscience--the brain and the mind--when speaking of of the Christian life. Chapter after chapter seems to present the Christian's lack of spiritual growth as primarily knowledge-based. Sin, fallenness and human depravity are often put in the context of problems of the mind rather than the heart and then whole person.

While this book may be helpful for some, I feel the author treads dangerous waters in portraying the Christian life as one of simply overcoming misinformation with right information.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Heart Problem, Not a Mind Problem
"Anatomy of the Soul" by Dr. Curt Thompson claims that it is possible to "rewire your mind" to change your life and have better relationships with others and with God.The premise of the book seemed interesting because it melds science and faith together, and I'm all for improving relationships.However, after reading the first few chapters, I was disheartened with the book and I couldn't read any further.
First, the book seemed a bit too technical for me.I'm not really science-minded, so the biological and psychological jargon just went over my head.However, I think Dr. Thompson did an excellent job thoroughly explaining how the brain work and each part of the brain.
Second, I disagree with the theology of the book.He uses examples of people who are living in sin and wondering why their lives are a mess.People may claim to "ask Jesus into their hearts" or believe in God, but unless they truly repent and believe in Christ alone, they will still continue to live in their sin.A person who becomes a Christian may not have victory overnight over a pet sin, but the Bible promises that Christ will give believers the power to get over their sins. (Romans 6:12-16)Yes, Christians will make mistakes and sin, but their lives shouldn't be marked by a sin-filled lifestyle.Christians should be continually growing in their faith and walk (sanctification).This is a heart problem, not a mind problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lifelong questions finally answered!
"Anatomy of the Soul - Surprising connections between neuroscience and spiritual practices that can transform your life" by Curt Thompson is a compelling read!Despite what science has tried to get us to believe, neurology and spirituality are connected.

I have long been a believer in the power of our mind, and when I saw the subtitle to this book, I was immediately intrigued. Author Curt Thompson does a great job explaining for the average reader just how this is possible.

Most reviewers of this book have given a general overview, but something has been on my mind all my life, growing up with a family member who is an atheist.Never for one minute understanding how that person could possibly not have any faith, not believe in God......I could not wrap my brain around that.Or why some people can easily share their faith, willingly and openly pray with their families and friends, yet others just cannot imagine doing so? Then along comes this book and it is explained to me, so I am thrilled to share this part of the book with you.

Dr. Thompson explains that our attachments from childhood can make all the difference.There are 4 attachment possibilities:

~~~~~~~~~
1.Secure Attachment:Children who are blessed to become securely attached have one common theme - their emotions were validated during childhood.They had parents who were empathetic.As an example, let's say Sally is crying because she has scraped her knee.An empathetic parent would come to her aid asking how she is doing rather than curtly telling her to stop crying like a baby.These children feel understood and connected, and the universe makes sense to them.As Thompson states, "This mindful approach to the emotional state of a child literally prepares at template at a neurological level that enables the child to grow into an awareness of a God who also cares about his or her joys, hurts, fears and mistakes."The child ultimately is able to envision God as responsible and trustworthy and that the world is safe, despite evidence to the contrary.God does not expect parents to be perfect, but they must be perceptive.
2.Insecure Attachment - Avoidant:Parents of children with this type of attachment will hands down claim to love their child deeply, but were more concerned about their child becoming a positive member of society, having morals, doing well in school and obeying rules.These parents tend to be emotionally unavailable, imperceptive, unresponsive or rejecting of a child's emotional state.This doesn't mean the parents are always like this or even do this on purpose, but enough so that these children learn from an early age that feelings don't matter and they gain nothing from it.They decide emotional input from their brains is unreliable , and over time learn to ignore their own distress and rely on avoiding closeness or emotional connection. Ignoring their emotional "right' brain functions,they often focus strongly on the logical, linear left brain functions, and may be highly accomplished in their vocations.But listening to them tell their story will be a little like watching paint dry, as it will be more logical than emotionally descriptive.
3.Insecure Attachment - ambivalent/anxious:Parental hallmarks of children with this type are mostly inconsistent and intrusive.These parents are unable to read their children because they are usually consumed with anxiety themselves.These children experience the lack of sensitivity and predictability and have increased levels of anxiety, uncertainty and insecurity.They will conclude the world is an emotionally unreliable place.Those with this attachment pattern filter God and the Bible logically with their left brain, taking in the "facts", but their right brains cannot incorporate the necessary emotional qualities involved in "taking on faith" those facts.These children grow up to be adults who are easily overwhelmed with doubts and fears about relying on others and may at times be "flooded" with right brain processing.This makes it difficult for them to attend to others' needs, given that their own emotional states have taken over.
4.Insecure Attachment - disorganized:These children find the world to be an unsafe place, having had frightened or frightening parents, who have varying states of behavior.Happy one minute, raging the next.These parents may have abused their children (in various ways) or may have had significant emotional disorders, such as schizophrenia, severe bipolar disorder, or alcohol or drug abuse.Most of these parents report they deeply love their children, but are clueless that their actions are preventing their child's mind from forming a coherent sense of the world.These children, having lived a life of traumatic events (in their experiences), often cannot view God as a loving figure, but of someone who is displeased or raged with them. They often do not desire to get close to God due to their discomfort with intimacy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So.......why does our attachment pattern matter and can we do anything about it?The answer is YES!Author Curt Thompson explains in detail how we can heal our past and learn to have an amazing relationship with God, one that is fulfilling and loving. As he states, the manner in which we tell our own stories will reflect the degree of our ability to let God's story fully interact with our own.

We can get to the point of having what is called "Earned Secure Attachment" and learn to live our lives fully and joyously and relate to God in an intimate way.So if you have wondered why you can't seem to connect with God in ways you see others do or know someone who struggles, do not fret.

We can renew our minds and experience more peace, more freedom, more happiness.Our lives can be radically changed.

"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." (Romans 12:2)

Enjoy!

This books pics/illustrations are quite good.I am a little annoyed with some of the unnecessary info that the author throws in there but it shows that the author is keeping up with the new discoveries of science.

Good Buy

This workbook showed me how much I absorbed reading and where I need to work harder! Thank you!

3-0 out of 5 stars Haven't read much yet
I started on the first chapter and realized that it is a good workbook for those students already in Anatomy and Phsiology. It's seems like a good book for when you are taking the class, but not for trying to prepare for the class itself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really good buy
I am starting my first year of nursing school and needed some brushing up on my A&P. This book breaks everything down for you. It is simple enough to easily understand but doesn't become so easy that you are actually learning nothing. I would totally recommend it!

Product Description
Anatomy and Asana offers an easy and successful method to learn anatomy and its relationship to yoga in a way that helps prevent injuries. It is written by a certified yoga teacher with a diverse background in kinesiology, ergonomics, and physical rehabilitation.

Anatomy and Asana answers many practical questions that are often asked by yoga students – about back pain, knee pain, and shoulder pain; about clenching the butt in back bends, and how to release the hamstrings or prevent hamstring tearing in forward bends. The book combines hands-on information with illuminating drawings, stories, and helpful tips to show you how to practice yoga with less pain. It informs without overwhelming the reader with too much information.

Anatomy and Asana is divided into four parts: basics of anatomy; language of anatomy and movement; the eight essential principles of movement as they relate to yoga; and application of these principles to specific groups of yoga asanas: standing poses, back bends, forward bends, twists, and inversions. For each group, the book shows where there is a tendency for injury and what you can do to instill space in your body and thereby prevent injury from occurring. ... Read more

I'm heading up to Kripalu Yoga Center for a monthlong teacher training this summer. This is one of the texts we'll be using.It's layout, design, colors and most importantly, content, are superb! Two minutes after showing it to my yoga teacher she went online to Amazon and ordered a copy for herself.

Yoga anatomy books can put one to sleep. NOT THIS BOOK.It is practical and helpful.Definitely worth purchasing, reading, and keeping on one's reference shelf.

1-0 out of 5 stars Still looking....
Interesting that there's such diverse opinion on this book. I'm in the camp that was disappointed and frustrated. Surely it's a well-intentioned project, and there's lots of information here, but it seems poorly processed - just thrown at the reader, almost as if the author is just showing off her anatomical knowledge. To me the writing is a bit dry and doesn't make the material real, doesn't really relate the knowledge to working with actual bodies. Too much unconnected fact and speculation, not enough energetic personality.I was also irritated that the discussion of the more ethereal, ancient concepts such as the bandhas are presented in the same breath as the medical information, and aren't explained in any depth.I'm on my second read because I'm waiting for new material that I've ordered from the States, but it's sometimes like working with a hostile witness, trying to glean the information that I need. ... Product Description

This atlas features outstanding full-color photographs of actual cadaver dissections, with accompanying schematic drawings and diagnostic images. The photographs depict anatomic structures more realistically than illustrations in traditional atlases and show students exactly what they will see in the dissection lab.

Chapters are organized by region in order of a typical dissection. Each chapter presents structures both in a systemic manner from deep to surface, and in a regional manner.

This edition has sixteen additional pages of clinical images—including CT and MRI—that students can compare with cross-sectional anatomic photographs. Many pictures have been electronically enhanced or rescanned for better contrasts.

Amazing cadaver pictures. Dissections are practically works of art. Great for studying when a lab is not immediately at hand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I purchased this book to help me in my Gross anatomy lab as a supplement with A netters human anatomy atlas which is also very good. With this book also to see real cadaver pictures makes a huge differences to get a much better understanding of the human anatomy. I would recommend this book to any one who is taking a gross anatomy class or just a regular anatomy class as you get a great perspective of the human body.

This atlas is everything I hoped for and more! I can't spend ALL of my time in the anatomy lab, and looking at the photographs in this book are as close to real-life as it gets. Before purchasing the atlas, I was a bit apprehensive. I worried that the photographs would be difficult to differentiate. I have LIVED in this atlas for the past 6 weeks, and have yet to be confused. All dissections are done beautifully, and supplemental illustrations/diagrams can be found throughout the book. Rohen truly provides the best of both worlds. I highly recommend! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars hysterically funny
this book was written in the early part of the 20th century, when vocabularies were more interesting.This is more or less a collection of Mr. Cobb's thoughts on various parts of the anatomy, and the trials and tribulations those parts inflict.I found myself laughing outloud while reading parts of it, because the situations he finds himself in are still a part of life today!I'm so thankful to whoever is responsible for the preservation of this wonderful work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not interesting
Honestly, this Cobb's Anatomy is not interesting although I respect to author's great observation and his ability to make detailed descriptions.

On the other hand, it is really amazing that Cobb can write so long for so small things.
