Editorial Review Product Description Not as cold as usual? Not cold at all? Frozen in the freezer side, and warming up in the fridge side? Whistling, warbling, chirping, clicking, or buzzing? Frosting up? Pooling water or ice on the floor? Our refrigerator repair manual can help! Save time and money! Most refrigerator repairs can be accomplished in one afternoon, with no special tools or knowledge other than this service manual. Tired of reading complex thermodynamic theory in a refrigerator manual? Don't you really just want to know basically how the bloomin' thing works, and then get on with fixing it? (over 95% of all repairs have nothing to do with Freon. We tell you how to diagnose sealed system troubles, but we recommend you call a professional for these problems.) Our refrigerator manual cuts out all the unnecessary theory and sealed system repairs that the novice will never perform. Instead, we focus on diagnosis and repair procedures for the most common symptoms, such as no cooling, ice or water buildup, noisy operation, electrical troubles, etc. Covers all major appliance brands commonly available in the US, including Whirlpool / Kenmore / Coldspot, GE / Hotpoint, JC Penney, Amana, Norge, Westinghouse, Philco, Frigidaire, Gibson, Kelvinator, Montgomery Ward, Signature and many others. Refrigerator Repair Why send me two identical books? Hopefully not charge me twice. And I'll send you extra book back. Your web design is not user friendly.Probably too much ads cause the trouble.
Excellent, even for the uninitiated homeowner This excellent book with lots of illustrations beats out books from Time-Life, Masters, OEM mfgrs, and others. The author has already been there and done that...he doesn't need a big publisher masthead and lots of high priced editors and photographers. Refrigerators are really quite simple but there are some trouble-prone areas which includes icemakers. It has good detail diagnostic flow diagrams so you can determine which subsystem or component is bad. In my case for a 20+ year old Frigidaire with top mount freezer intended to be used in an office, where a new one costs about $600. This fridge cooled great at first, but after about 1-2 weeks would not cool or freeze any more. With this book, I easily diagnosed that a defrost heater was burned out, p37. With its good illustrations, was able to take apart the freezer section, lift the evap coils, and find the heater. Described it (1" dia x 17" long) over the phone to a appliance parts store. Picked it up for $27, and voila! it is still running after 3 months. I read this book from the local library and also saw another book by the same author, "Refrigerator Repair Under $40," ISBN 1-884348-00-9 which has about the same content. Highly recommended, would not been able to save this fridge without it.

Editorial Review Product Description Leaking water? Overflowing? Not filling, or filling too slowly? Not agitating, or agitating weakly? Not spinning? Not draining? Not doing anything? Leaving your clothes too wet at the end of the cycle? Vibrating uncontrollably? Spinning and agitating at the same time? Screeching, squeaking, clattering, buzzing, or making grinding or other strange noises? Do you smell smoke? Our Maytag washer repair manual can help! The same things tend to fail in the same designs. Why not save yourself some time, hassle and money, and just go there first? Diagnosis and repair procedures are included for the most common symptoms, such as leaks, no fill or slow fill, clothes too wet after cycle ends, no agitate, no spin, no drain, timer, drive motor and other electrical troubles. Note: This manual does not cover front-loading washers; only top-loaders. Customer Reviews (3)
If you have a Neptune, you will need this book!
Maybe so, but... Mr. Stuart's main objections seem to be twofold: 1) That the book did not cover the rebuilding oftransmissions, and 2) That the book claims to have been written for tradeschools. Regarding the first point, NOBODY rebuilds washer transmissions"in the field" anymore; least of all professionals. Not unlikethe automotive industry, if one diagnoses a bad transmission in thesemachines, one removes it and replaces it with a rebuilt transmission, available at most appliance parts stores. In the case of Maytag machines, removing the transmission is VERY difficult, and in my opinion, not to beperformed by someone who hasn't done it before. Perhaps Mr. Stuart shouldbe directing his comments at Maytag's design engineers rather than at me.Add the fact that transmission replacements are a minute percentage of therepairs that one will perform on Maytag machines, and his point is reallyquite pointless. I am truly sorry that Mr. Stuart did not find the rebuildinformation he apparently was looking for, but the truth is that he doesnot NEED the info he was looking for. For another opinion on the validityof transmission replacement versus rebuilding as a cost-effective means ofrepair, I would invite the reader to read the review in Amazon of my washerbook, ISBN 1890386022, in which an individual raves about how he was ableto easily replace the transmission in his GE dryer. I would also like topoint out that of four reviews of my books to date in Amazon, three werefive-star reviews. Mr Stuart seems to be the only Amazon reviewer to datewho really hated my book. In ten years of writing these manuals, literally99 percent of the feedback I receive is positive, and I will be glad toshare the testimonials I receive with anyone who asks. And what littleVALID negative feedback I get, I use to improve the manuals. (I do notconsider feedback such as Mr Stuart's "valid," because it isclear to me that he did not "get the point" of the manual, anddoes not offer any criticism from which I could effect positive changes tothe content of it.) With regard to his second point, not three days ago I"audaciously" shipped 35 washer manuals to a trade school inTexas along with 35 each of the dryer, refrigerator, dishwasher and ovenmanuals. This is not an unusual order for us. Mr. Stuart seems to forgetthat when they are first entering trade schools, most"technicians-to-be" are basically just do-it-yourselfers. No,this is not information they can graduate on, but then it's not designed tobe. This is not a rebuild manual; it is designed, like it says on thecover, to show "DIY'ers and other 'green' technicians" thefastest and easiest way to solve the most common problems they willencounter. Many technicians make quite a good living performing the"parts changer"-type repairs shown in my manuals, and calling inmore "experienced" technicians for more complex jobs. In fact,"written for trade schools" IS a sales "hook," but notin the way Mr. Stuart accuses me of. I wrote the manuals for DIY-ers, andwhen I first published them, that's what it said on the cover. But thesemanuals are also sold in appliance parts stores. The MAIN customers ofappliance parts stores is the home-service technicians, and THEY objectedto the parts store carrying books that they felt might cut into theirbusiness. So in order to make it more palatable to some parts stores (andthereby make this kind of help available to the public at all!) I HAD tode-emphasize DIY-ers on the cover, and emphasize trade schools. It was moreof a political compromise than a sales "hook," but of course, Mr.Stuart had no way of knowing that.
Redundancy in a spin cycle While in one breath claiming to be written "ESPECIALLY for trade schools" and more chapter 1 gives advise on how to deal with parts houses talking you out of repairing your ownmachine. The "spin" of course is using "trade school"to sell this book.It tells you that you should know how to use electricaltools and testers and then devotes some of its fifty some pages to justthat. Redundant is the diagrams and explanations of tools. DouglasEmley then has the audacity, after assuming a trade school would use thisbook, to suggest that for some repairs one should call a qualified servicetechnician. What do trade schools graduate, unqualified servicetechnicians? The book does not have a trouble shooting section withreferences so one is forced to read the entire book, fortunately again itis only fifty some pages long. In particular he addresses thetransmission and it's repair in this avoidance mode. Not only do you not learn how to repair your transmission problem but you don'thave the leastbit of a hint on diagnosing the problems a faulty transmission could cause. All said, the diagrams are good and for the most simple adviceMaytag Washer Repair Cheap and Easymight meet your needs. ButCheap andEasy should be the description of the effort spent writing this booklet. ... Read more |
