Product Description
This book is designed for human resources managers and directors of personnel who are concerned with labor productivity. It gives benchmarks and gap analyses used to gauge a company's performance vis-a-vis firms competing firms in the same sector, at the global level. In particular, this report covers AVIATION SALES COMPANY, MIAMI, USA.With the globalization of markets, greater foreign competition, and the reduction of entry barriers, it becomes all the more important to benchmark a company's performance against other firms on a worldwide basis.Doing so, however, is not an obvious task.First, one needs to find firms competing in the same sector.Second, one needs to control for exchange rate volatility. Finally, one needs to use comparable financial standards. This report overcomes these issues and gives full human resources benchmarks vis-a-vis worldwide competitors who are present in the same narrow industrial classification. Benchmarks cover labor-asset ratios, labor-liability ratios, and labor-income ratios.Since our reports are printed on demand, the statistics reported are for the latest quarter and are the most up to date available (4 updates are produced each year). Each report provides over 100 statistics and 40 graphs to the reader. ... Read more

Product Description
Are the combined human resources at GREAT LAKES AVIATION, LTD. productive? There is no absolute answer to this question. This report considers the extent to which the company's labor deployment indicators differ from global benchmarks. In this report we consider forecasts of differences between labor ratios and the resulting return on this human investment compared to global benchmarks; the estimation of such differences is commonly called a "gap analysis."What is the ratio of short-term and long-term assets to employee? What are typical capital-labor ratios? How different are these ratios to companies serving the same link in the value chain? What are the average sales and net profits per employee compared to global benchmarks? These and over 50 other indicators of labor productivity are considered in this report. The report does so by going beyond traditional analyses by considering companies competing in the same or similar industrial classification at a global level. The goal of this report, therefore, is to assist consultants, human resource managers, strategic planners, and corporate officers in gauging estimates of a company's human resource indicators compared to firms competing or participating in the same economic sector, at the global level. This report is not about whether a particular company or industry has performed well or poorly in the past or will do so in the future. With the globalization of markets, greater foreign competition, and the reduction of entry barriers, it becomes all the more important to benchmark a company's human resource indicators against other firms on a worldwide basis.Doing so, however, is not an obvious task.First, one needs to find firms competing in the same sector, but not necessarily competing directly with the company in local markets. These firms should not be perceived, therefore, to be direct competitors to the company in question, but simply those that have been classified by various sources (e.g. EDGAR or similar foreign filings), as competing to serve customers in the same link of the value chain, or broad industrial classification, as identified by SIC, NAICS or similar codes. Second, given the international nature of the task, one needs to control for exchange rate volatility. Finally, one needs use comparable financial standards. 1-0 out of 5 stars Outdated; Not worth buying now.
DO NOT buy this book. This book would have been a great resource in it's day.The information would have been fantastic to have in one place with continuous updates. However, the vast majority of the information in this book is no longer valid now and completely unusable and the updates ended many years ago.Even the update site is no longer up and running.Save your money and just use your search engine on the internet.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this book. It is woefully outdated.
When this book was published in 2001 I'm sure it was a great source of information. Now it's a great source of frustration. The vast majority of the sites listed are no longer active. Do not believe the "updated online" tease in the upper right corner. The website for the book no longer exists! This book should go out of print and never return.

4-0 out of 5 stars best book for looking for that great aviation site
This books cuts to the quick. This books lists all the good aviation sites. A little dated and its been out for a couple of years, but still a great quick reference.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Resouce for Non-Professionals
Probably the best categorized aviation directory, but not always the best aviation websites.
The popularity of websites seems not to count, it just has the biggest airlines, the biggest manufacturers etc.

The directory has pretty much everything about commercial aviation, but for example there is no military category.

You can find some real highlights, even in the long lists of "bookmarkables". Still...every webmaster can be proud when he finds his website in this reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars cuts the jungle down to size
Aviation is one of the most active topics in cyberspace.Fly through the thousands of web offerings to the ones that have the information you want with this categorized guide to the best sites available to meet your needs.Witty and concise descriptions tell you what you'll find -- and what you won't.This book's been around since "100 Best..." and it just keeps getting better as it gets bigger. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good beginning for the emerging aeronautical professional.
Henri Demaison's compilation of Spanish, French, and English aeronautical and aviation terminology appears to be about as complete as possible, albeit pricey. Modern as it is, however, it is limited to 13,000 words, all of which have the first letter capitalized, which may be confusing to the beginning language user (Are all the words proper nouns? No.).

The aeronautical professional will discover obvious omissions. As for terminology in this field, one would be better served (on the Spanish and English side) to utilize the 700,000 word resource of Lewis L. Sell "Espanol-Ingles Diccionario Tecnico". Sell's work, though dated, covers the gambit of the field.

For the beginner, I would recommend Demaison's "Complete Multilingual Dictionary of Aviation and Aeronautical Terminology." Its unique layout is easy to comprehend, and makes cross-lingual word-for-word comprehension simple. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Historically excellent, technically poor
Very interesting book for a little known subject. Extremely in-depth analysis from a historical point of view; precious info about development and production of Russian-Soviet piston engines and engine industry. Many pictures (average-quality at best), fewer drawings but no cutaways. This is not a technical book: no charts, no power curves or detailed description of the engine performances. Not even in the tabular appendixes will the reader find indication of FTH (full throttle height), rpm, boost or manifold pressure, fuel consumption, TBO (time between overhaul) etc. of the countless engines. The three stars are an average between five stars for the historical narrative and one star for the technical issues.

1-0 out of 5 stars Faulty Premise
Whatever the relative strengths and weaknesses of this book may or may not be, it is based on a faulty premise. The vast majority of aircraft engines profiled here are NOT Russian - they are either Soviet (or imported - things like Hispano-Suiza).

The title of this book represents nothing less than the author's and publisher's either extreme ignorance of basic historical fact or worse, a willingness to subscribe to the Russian ultra nationalist line which says "anything good that happened under the Soviet Union was our doing, anything bad was done collectively and/or by others, if we admit at all that it even happened."

For example, the Ivchenko Design Bureau profiled in this book could in no possible universe be considered to be "Russian."It is Ukrainian, pure and simple, and has always existed in the territory of Ukraine (or the Ukrainian SSR) and its founders were Ukrainian.Similar mistakes abound.

Crowood Press would not dream of releasing a book called "English Aircraft" and then include a section on the Scottish Aviation Company. Why do they continue to make this basic mistake over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again in their books vis-a-vis "Russian" vs "Soviet"? ... 36. Understanding Aviation Safety Data: Using the Internet and Other Sources to Analyze Air Travel Risk
by Todd Curtis
Paperback: 209 Pages (2000-07)
list price: US$9.99
Isbn: 0768006023
Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France | Japan
Editorial Review

Product Description
Aviation safety is a subject of intense interest to the flying public and to those whose livelihoods depend on the air transportation industry. Round the clock television news channels and the rise of the World Wide Web as a communications medium has also led to unprecedented levels of media coverage of aviation safety issues, especially in the wake of a major airline accident. Partly in response this public interest, a number of government agencies and private organizations have used the World Wide Web to provide easy public access to vast amounts of aviation related information. However, much of it is unprocessed data concerning accidents and incidents, or background information about the air transportation system. While public access to this kind of data has never been greater, there has been little effort by the government or industry to provide the public with advice or guidance on how to comprehend or analyze this kind of data.

This book will fill part of that gap by providing the aviation professional and others interested in the analysis of aviation safety data with specific insights into how to systematically find, classify, and evaluate aviation data in order to answer specific questions about airline safety and operations. Using a combination of case studies and explicit step by step instructions, the reader will be provided with the following:

- An overview of fundamental concepts of risk and safety,
- An overview of how aviation safety data are collected and used for safety analysis,
- An overview of the role of the World Wide Web in providing access to aviation safety data,
- An overview of traditional sources of publicly accessible aviation safety data,
- A systematic processes for planning and executing aviation related data analyses,
- Examples of how that systematic process can be used to analyze aviation safety data from libraries, the World Wide Web, and other publicly accessible sources of data,
- Descriptions of sources of aviation safety data resources, and
- A glossary of aviation safety and Internet terms that are related to the analysis of aviation safety data.
This is a how-to book that will provide the reader with the basic tools necessary to ask specific aviation related questions and to find the relevant information needed to answer the question using the Internet, libraries, and other sources. The book will also provide an overview of some of the issues involved in analyzing aviation safety and operational data as well as a practical guide for using that information to answer specific questions about airline safety and airline operations. The advice, checklists, and analysis procedures described in the book rely on the use of reliable and authoritative aviation data commonly available through public libraries and some Web sites. Although the procedures and techniques described in the book are demonstrated using publicly available aviation data, they can also be applied to proprietary or other non-public aviation data.

The unique contribution of this book is that it provides insights and guidance that will allow an aviation professional or an interested lay person to combine information available through the World Wide Web with information from traditional sources of aviation data in order to address specific aviation safety questions. The book also provides the reader with detailed instructions on how to apply a systematic method for the entire process of planning and executing an analysis related to an aviation safety question. ... Product Description
Crew (or Cockpit) Resource Management training originated from a NASA workshop in 1979 that focused on improving air safety. The NASA research at that time found the primary cause of the majority of aviation accidents to be human error, and further showed the main problems to be failures of interpersonal communication, leadership, and decision making in the cockpit.By the time of publication of our first editon of CRM, was celebrated as the convergence of a concept, an attitude and a very practical approach to pilot training.Equally important was the convergence and enthusiastic support of the research community, aviation regulators, transport operators and the pilot unions. CRM was maturing, implementing and developing all at the same time.

Cockpit Resource Management (CRM) has gained increased attention from the airline industry in recent years due to the growing number of accidents and near misses in airline traffic. This book, authored by the first generation of CRM experts, is the first comprehensive work on CRM. Cockpit Resource Management is a far-reaching discussion of crew coordination, communication, and resources from both within and without the cockpit. A valuable resource for commercialand military airline training curriculum, the book is also a valuable reference for business professionals who are interested in effective communication among interactive personnel.

Fifteen years later, CRM concepts have endured by not only integrating themselves into the fabric of training, but also expanding the team concept, evolving into new applications, and possibly most important to the original operators, inspiring development and integration of CRM into safety and quality assurance goals at the corporate level.A variety of CRM models have been successfully adapted to different types of industries and organizations, all based on the same basic concepts and principles. It has been adopted by the fire service to help improve situational awareness on the fireground. The new edition of Crew Resource Management continues to focus on CRM in the cockpit, but also emphasizes that the concepts and training applications provide generic guidance and lessons learned for a wide variety of 'crews' in the aviation system as well as in the complex and high-risk operations of many non-aviation settings.

Long considered the ?bible? in this field, much of the basic style and structure of CRM 1e will be retained in the new edition.Textbooks are often heavily supplemented with or replaced entirely by course packs in advanced courses in the aviation field, as it is essential to provide students with cutting edge information from academic researchers, government agencies (FAA), pilot associations, and technology (Boeing, ALION).Our edited textbook will offer ideal coverage with first hand information from each of these perspectives.Case examples, which are particularly important given the dangers inherent in real world aviation scenarios, are liberally supplied. An image collection and testbank will be offered, making us the only text on the market with ancillary support

Material from the first edition remains relevant today and will be fully updated, often by new authors now at the fore of the field.New material - to the tune of an additional 50%- will focuses on the challenges facing aviation specialists today.New topics will include: international and cultural aspects of CRM, design and implementation of Line-Oriented Flight Training (LOFT), airline applications beyond the cockpit, spaceflight resource management, non-aviation applications, AQP, LOSA and special issues pertaining to low-cost airline carriers.

The second edition editors offer essential breath of experience in aviation human factors from multiple perspectives (academia, government, and private enterprise) and the proposed contributors have all been chosen as experts in their fields who represent the diversity of the research of activities and organisational experience of CRM.

The only CRM text on the market offering an up-to-date synthesis of primary source material
*Instructors benefit from being able to adopt a single text for their courses, saves them time taken up by putting together course packs

New edition thoroughly updated and revised to include major new findings, complete with discussion of the int'l/cultural aspects of CRM, the design and implementation of LOFT
*Gives students and aviation professionals a firm foundation in both the extant research and current issues

Instructor web site with testbank and image collection
*The only text offering ancillary support

Liberal use of case examples
*Ensures that readers will know how to respond to dangers and implement solutions when placed in real-world situations where timing is of the essence

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent reference on basic meteorology as it relates to aviation
I have very much enjoyed reading this book by Terry Lankford. I find myself frequently opening this book for clarification on how forecasts and observations are used in real-world aviation/weather situations.Terry provides numerous examples from his years of experience as a weather specialist and flight instructor. His writing style is clear and concise.Obviously, he has a firm grasp of official standards adopted by the FAA, NWS, and WMO, but he presents the information in a manner that is much more enjoyable to read than most manuals on standards from either of these organizations.I highly recommend this well-written book for anyone interested in general meteorology, or for young pilots wishing to learn more about the impact weather will have on their chosen profession. ...
