The committee group for this event has to select the items, make an inventory, price the items out, set up, assist the students, cash them out and make sure the stock is replenished daily.

The following is a note from an Unqua parent who made sure the toys were distributed to the children, and without whom it wouldn't have happened: Dear Josephine and Karen, Just to let you know the toys collected from Unqua were successfully delivered to the St. Francis DeSales Outreach Center in Patchogue. As you are aware, this was our 14th annual toy drive and the 2nd year that Unqua contributed toys to help make it successful. This year we delivered a total of 9 family-sized trucks to the Center, making it the biggest yet! One SUV was filled with toys just from Unqua. The drive has gotten so large, Father Kevin was able to fill the requests of the Outreach Center and provide the Marines with the rest of the toys. Thank you for your hard work collecting and sorting the toys and for delivering those "last minute" toys to my home. Thank you to all the generous families who helped to get toys to the needy during the holidays.

We welcome everyone including parents, educators, friends, or other family members. Ideally, every family in the school is a PTA member. Individual memberships for this school year are $6.00 / Family memberships (2 adults) are $12.00. Additional donations are also accepted. The PTA raises money each year to provide benefits and enhance programs that directly benefit our children. In many cases these are programs that our school district might not otherwise be able to provide. Several examples of PTA sponsored programs and purchases include Great Books, Science Day, new computers and art supplies, as well as money provided to the library and to teachers for classroom supplies or study trips. Funds may also be used for special assemblies and activity days to enrich the regular curriculum. Fund raising varies from year to year, but some of our ongoing programs are as follows. Brittan Acres sponsors a booth at Hometown Days each year. The Holiday Store is a fun and reasonably priced way for your child to "shop" for holiday gifts. Two highly profitable fund raisers are our eSCRIP and Schoolpop programs. These are described in more detail in the following pages. Walk-a-Jog is a student powered fund-raiser that has been in existence at Brittan Acres for 11 successive years. The semiannual Book Fair is an opportunity for parents and students to purchase quality books and help support the library.

This week, Brenda Dyck recounts how her school's administrators used the Survivor TV show as a theme to strengthen teams, build camaraderie, present challenges and teach a few lessons about how to create a quality classroom environment for students! Included: Survivor activity ideas and teacher reactions! I've spent most of today covered in face paint, glitter glue, feathers, and beads. This apparent masquerade was part of my school's first-day staff training a staged simulation based on the successful TV series Survivor. It didn't take long, however, to realize that the purpose of this day was about much more than fun. A day spent in an environment in which top-down leadership, ranking, and shaming were the rule taught all of us some valuable lessons about how to create a quality classroom environment. Within minutes of arriving at school, my colleagues and I were ushered into a darkened room filled with eerie smoke (from dry ice), foliage, tiki torches, climbing ropes, and cargo containers.
