Extractions: Benefits of a Needs Assessment Barriers to Conducting a Needs Assessment ... Other Needs Assessment/Strategic Planning Resources INTRODUCTION A comprehensive needs assessment is the critical first step a coalition or organization must take in order to develop an effective and successful underage drinking prevention effort. This "Community How To Guide on Needs Assessment and Strategic Planning," details the elements of a needs assessment. Beginning with data, the booklet walks the reader through the process organizations must follow to obtain all the information they will need to determine the exact causes of underage drinking and the appropriate solutions to those problems. To make the process easier, this booklet includes a sample data checklist that communities can use to determine what types of data are currently available and what data the community believes they will need to be effective in the future. Sample surveys are also available along with instructions for conducting a focus or discussion group with key members of the community. In addition, this booklet describes the other needed elements including a review of current laws, regulations, policies and procedures governing underage drinking and a review of what is currently occurring in a community with respect to underage drinking prevention. Sample questionnaires in the areas of prevention, education, enforcement and media are included in the Appendix #1 so communities can quickly begin their assessment.

Extractions: ANNA Background and General Facts We are people just like you. We're concerned renters and homeowners who banded together in 1986 to devote a small amount of time to give part of ourselves for the good of the neighborhood. We want to know who else cares about where we live, and what the area means to each of us. We want to help each other solve problems or crises, or perhaps even fix problems we've caused among ourselves. We want a desirable and safe neighborhood for ourselves, our children and our grandchildren. We are interested in generating a "neighborly feeling" so everyone will know there's always someone who can help in time of need. - There's power in numbers. The LAPD, city services departments and government officials pay attention to the needs of a well-organized group of voters. - There's truth in the old saw "The best burglary protection is a nosey neighbor." Knowing your neighbors, their kids, and cars, makes it easier to spot strange vehicles and persons with possible criminal intentions and to notify proper authorities. - ANNA keeps a current list of helpful phone numbers and contact names. We can show you how to address a specific problem: getting your landlord to respond, abandoned trash or cars, etc. We sometimes invite a local speaker to address issues in our area at our monthly meetings.

Extractions: Most pesticide applications made to home lawns are either unneeded or ineffective. To make sure you need a pesticide, you must first "scout" for pests to see if there are enough to justify the treatment. (See Lawn pest profiles for more scouting information.) If you do treat, you need to make sure you apply the pesticide correctly and at the right time. By spring, grubs are usually too mature to be controlled by pesticides. Scout for grubs in late summer and early fall to determine if treatment is necessary while next year's grubs are still small enough to control. (If treatment is justified, August is usually the best time.) Because grubs feed below-ground, insecticides need to be watered in before they dry on grass leaves to be effective.
Extractions: e have a required week long orientation. In this time, we as a group set up the camp, learn to work as a team and go over the policies, procedures and laws of Pocono Ridge. It is during this time that the staff are placed with their co-counselor(s) and age group of children. We have found that a staff that works together in orientation makes a tight bond that carries through out the summer and even beyond. ll of our staff are required to teach at least 2 activities. Everyone is hired for their capabilities in either teaching or assisting these activities. There are no positions for just a general counselor. Our elective program has activities running all day for the children. The campers chose what they want to do, and the staff run the sports, arts, adventure courses and waterfronts for them, while effectively enforcing all safety regulations.
Untitled Insist that your grandchildren wear helmets when participating in wheeledsports like biking, roller blading and skate boarding. http://www.opfd.com/PublicEducation/PEGPrents.htm
Extractions: GRANDPARENT SURVIVAL: HOW DOES ALL THIS STUFF WORK? This year nearly 6,300 children 14 and under will die from injuries that most people would call accidents. Another 120,000 will be permanently disabled from these "accidents". Another interesting statistic is that 9 out of 10 grandparents will care for their grandchildren sometime this year. Grandparents need to be just as informed as parents on how to prevent unintentional injuries to their precious little ones. However, cars are faster, homes more automated and things in general are different than when you raised your family. It's hard to keep up to date on the latest information. Below are some suggestions from C. Everett Koop, M.D., Sc.D. and The National SAFE KIDS Campaign. For more information visit their web site at www.safekids.org. MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY: Today's driving environment is more aggressive than it was 30 years ago. Children should be restrained in an approved child passenger restraint whether you are going on the interstate or just down the road. They are proven life savers and the law in all 50 states. When driving in a vehicle with your grandchildren remember: Buckle Your Own Safety Belt.

Most mountains offer package deals with rentals, instruction and a lift ticket. Lessons will give you the basic techniques you need. If you take a group lesson, you will have others to console you and laugh with while you are learning. Learning should be fun. As in skiing, keep your weight low and forward. It will seem impossible to begin with. But once you get it, it's more natural and fluid than skiing. Be determined and stick with it! Plan on boarding for a couple of days, so you can solidify what you learned.
Extractions: E ACH YEAR 300,000 DIE FROM OBESITY RELATED ILLNESSES By Andy Summa Obesity is reaching epidemic proportions, affecting millions of people every year. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that 300,000 Americans now die each year from obesity-related illnesses. Reducing obesity has traditionally focused on lowering caloric intake by dieting, but there is growing evidence that exercise deprivation is also a major contributor to obesity. With metabolic systems shaped by 4 million years of highly active hunting and gathering, many people may not be able to maintain a healthy body weight without regular exercise, according to the Worldwatch Institute Surveys show that 57 percent of Americans exercise only occasionally or not at all, a number that corresponds closely with the share of the population that is overweight.
