I have a requirement to have all BIOS settings logged and safeguarded and it is getting old trying to keep track of them all especially after a flash etc. All I want to be able to do, if anyone knows is capture all of the BIOS setting.

The problem lies with your PCs real-time clock (RTC), which holds the time when you switch the machine off. This often is a dedicated chip located on the motherboard, but it also can be part of the main chipset or integrated into an input/output (I/O) chip. The system also uses the clock chip to store all of the CMOS setup information. (You usually can access this using the DEL or F1 key when you boot up the computer. This is where all of the information about the hard drive, memory, and many other system settings is stored). The information is usually maintained by a lithium battery, either separate or built into the chip, which is replaced every five years or so. The RTC has registers dedicated to keeping track of seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, and years, which it constantly updates, regardless of whether the computer is on or off. All categories are maintained with two digits; that is, 1998 is stored in the clocks memory as 98, 1999 is 99, and so on. This means that when Jan. 1, 2000, comes around, the clock doesnt recognize the 00 information as being a new century. As this problem only occurs once every hundred years, no one thought to build it into the clock chips until the problem became evident a few years ago. When you start up your computer, the Basic Input/Output system (BIOS) supplies the machine with the date information, which it gets from the clock chip. From this point on, both the operating system and the RTC keep track of time independently of each other. The RTC maintains its clock using an oscillator on the chi....

Extractions: The year 2000 presents many hardware and software challenges for computer users. The problem for personal computers began in the early '80s with IBM's AT PC. To keep track of the time while the computer was off, IBM incorporated a real-time clock RTC ) into the AT's design. (Real-time refers to the normal passage of time.) The RTC was placed on a dedicated chip on the AT's motherboard, which is a printed circuit board that is the foundation of a computer. The RTCs of today are still based on this design. The RTC reserves space to track the seconds, minutes, hours, days, and years. But to reduce the cost of memory (memory prices have dropped considerably since then), designers allocated only two digits for each time frame to the RTC. That means the RTC stores the year 1980 as 80, 1990 as 90, and so on. When 1999 becomes 2000, the RTC's year value will revert to 00, and the RTC will think 2000 is 1900.

Extractions: Recuperare le informazioni sul BIOS della propria piastra madre è un'operazione piuttosto semplice. Basta andare nel sito " Wim's BIOS ", navigare un po' nel sito e una volta trovata la pagina del BIOS di Award (ad esempio), basta confrontare il proprio codice del BIOS (il nome identificativo che appare nella parte inferiore dello schermo durante l'avvio del computer) con i codici elencati nella lista. Essendo un'operazione lenta e noiosa, vi consiglio di scaricare il programma CTBIOS e decomprimere tale file in una cartella vuota. Eseguite quindi il programma CTBIOS.EXE, verranno visualizzate alcune informazioni. Qui di seguito vi è un esempio del suddetto programma su una piastra madre Asus P3V4X. Come potete vedere qui sopra, alcune informazioni sono visualizzate in tedesco. Poco male, qui di seguito vi verranno fornite le informazioni basilari per il recupero dei dati appena visualizzati. BIOS Datum , corrisponde alla data del BIOS nel formato Mese/Giorno/Anno. PCI-BIOS gefunden , corrisponde alla versione PCI del BIOS trovata. Nel suddetto caso la versione è la 2.10, il BIOS PCI è di tipo a 32 bit e la revisione è la numero 0.
