BLM's Resource Explorer Location On location. A combination of climate, geology, soils, and vegetation has createdan ecosystem that supports the largest concentration of nesting birds of prey http://www.blm.gov/education/expert/5/location.html
Extractions: The overlook at Dedication Point is one of the best places to see the canyon. You might also spot raptors, such as red-tailed hawks defending their territory or golden eagles in a dramatic courtship flight. The grasses and sagebrush of the Snake River Plain provide good food and cover for the many small mammals that live there. The Owyhee Mountains, which rise to 2550 meters (8400 ft), are in the background. Even if the area were not the hot spot for raptors, it would still be a marvelously scenic place rich in geologic and cultural history. Though located only 50 km (30 miles) south of Boise, once you start traversing the expansive desert of the Snake River Plain and drop into the Snake River Canyon, you could be in another country. The Snake River Plain cuts a 80-km (50-mi)-wide swath across southwest Idaho. The landscape is covered with evidence of a violent history of heat, fire, and lava. Lonely buttes, small rock outcrops, and shallow ridges are all that remain of the volcanic activity that shaped the area.

WBU Education - Nesting Birds And Courtship again. If a cat or predator has disturbed the nest site, the birdswill choose another location. birds are fascinating to watch. http://www.wbu.com/edu/nest.htm
Extractions: wild birds visiting your yard! As birds are searching for and creating nests, displays of courtship can be fascinating to watch. It is also fun to watch what kind of materials birds may use in their nests. You can provide commercial nesting material, which is clean and colorful. Some birds have been known to pick material off clothes hanging on a clothesline. It is helpful to provide calcium suet to nesting birds and to birds that are rearing their young. Calcium can be provided by offering suet with calcium (such as Wild Birds Unlimited's Calcium Care) or ground up egg shells. Be sure the egg shells have been completely dried before placing them out for the birds. Providing shelter for the birds is important. Houses can help provide a place for birds to rear their young. If a brood has been successfully reared in a location, the birds may return to that site again. If a cat or predator has disturbed the nest site, the birds will choose another location. Birds are fascinating to watch. You can enjoy the courtship and rearing of the young birds if you are aware that it happens right in your own backyard!
