We were able to double last years donations by raising $300,000 for the burn victims at Riley Hospital and Burn Camps. In the future Coopers Stardust Bowl intends to be on the cutting edge of the bowling industry, to give our bowlers an establishment they are proud to call their "BOWLING HOME." Our company motto is "Whatever it takes to make our customer happy and satisfied is the responsibility of all employees."

Extractions: San Diegos three "Team del Sol" synchronized skating teams ( senior novice juvenile ) are based in San Diego, one of Southern Californias most popular vacation destinations. Get more information about the sport of synchronized skating (such as rules and regulations, divisions, elements, and the new name change) HERE ! Formerly known as the Icettes (senior/junior), Sun Blazers (intermediate), and Starlites (juvenile), our teams changed their name to Team del Sol in 1997 to reflect San Diegos Spanish heritage. Team del Sol translates to "Team of the Sun." With an average year-round temperature of 70 degrees, ice skating is uncommon in San Diego. The availability of surfing, volleyball, golfing and other year-round sports often makes it difficult to find skaters with the ability to perform at the National and International level, however we have built a precision program that has grown and strengthened since it began in the late 1970's as a "drill team." We competed in the very first Nationals, which was held in Bowling Green, Ohio in 1984, and we've been going strong ever since! We have been Pacific Coast Gold Medallists since 1985. The Juvenile team achieved the Bronze medal at the National Championships in 1986. Since that time we went through a period of building depth. Now team members that were on our juvenile team have developed into masterful senior division skaters, giving the quality needed to perform at the national and international levels. The goal has been and continues to be to develop a solid foundation to achieve national titles in all three divisions and to compete in the international arena.

Extractions: The Sports Illustrated Olympic Daily is published in Salt Lake City and available in event venues and on newsstands for 16 straight days during the 2002 Winter Games. Here are some sights and scenes from todays edition. Going Four Gold Georg Hackl is 5'8" tall and shaped like a football, his 179 pounds spread over his frame as if it were a warm layer of soft, freshly baked bread. He can't run fast, jump high or lift massive amounts of weight, and if you had to identify the sport in which he is an international star, you would guess bowling, or maybe bass fishing. He is the pudgy neighbor mowing his lawn in tight gym shorts, the social studies teacher in polyester Sansabelts, the little kid who could never get a game. Yet Hackl, a 35-year-old German, can make Olympic history tomorrow by winning his fourth consecutive gold medal in luge. (He had the fastest practice run of the day yesterday; competition opens at 4 p.m. today with two runs at Utah Olympic Park.) No athlete in Winter Olympics history has won the same event four times in a row beloved U.S. speed skater Bonnie Blair is among several to have won three straight and if Hackl had been half a second faster in Calgary in 1988, he would be gunning for number five. Just as im portant as his records, his presence demands that we reconsider precisely what makes a person an athlete. Burning Question Q: Would a hockey player be competitive in speed skating or short track?

The slogan celebrates the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine's receipt of the Gold Medal Award from the National Parks and Recreation Society to recognize the Department's outstanding management practices and programs. This simple, yet dynamic statement is a way of letting all City residents and visitors know that one of the best things about their community is the parks, open space, sports and aquatics facilities, beaches, recreation programs and services provided by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine. Facilities The Department earned the Gold Medal Award by developing facilities and programs that reflect the needs and interests of a diverse community. With input and direction from the City Manager, Long Beach City Council, citizen advisory commissions, and of course, the citizens themselves, Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine operates 92 parks with 25 community centers, two major tennis centers, one of the busiest municipal golf systems in the country with five courses, the largest municipally operated marina system in the nation with 3,800 boat slips and 11 miles of beaches. More than 3,100 acres within the City's 50 square miles are devoted to recreation.

Researching information for the commemorative 40th Anniversary Booklet in 1997 was a blast from the past for Debby Palermino Connor. This hockey league has an amazing history. Below is an excerpt from her article of that year. Did you know that . . . The 1977 Women's Club had a broomball team? And played hockey moms from neighboring arenas? One of the teams they regularly defeated were the Sweeping Beauties from the Grosse Pointe hockey league. One of the games was close, according to the Spring '77 newsletter, " Our broomball gals defeated G.P. by a 1-0 score . . . Debbie Walleman was outstanding in net getting her shutout . . . After the game, Bob and Madeline Kacupra invited the gals to a party at the K of C to celebrate their victory. "Thirst -Aide" and "Nurse- Aide", Mary English and Audrey Rafferty, were there to take care of the gal's needs." Mrs. Rafferty is still around the league, I think I'm going to have to ask her what a nurse-aide job description entails. Those crazy gals!

Extractions: A place that has to be seen to be believed, McMenamins Olympic Club property in Centralia is a veritable time warp into the true Old West. There's a sort of "heavy air" about the place; a feeling of the past practically transcendent to the touch with stories of bootlegging, ladies of the evening, cardsharks and countless gamblers, and secrets deeply buried. Legendary above all was the capture of notorious train robber Roy Gardner who was apprehended at the then called Oxford Hotel in 1921. The self-described "...last of the daring Robin Hood type of outlaw, a bloodless desperado..." Gardner's story is one of many surrounding this fine hotel and visitors to the property can soak up the historic atmosphere in true McMenamins style through the paintings, photographs and murals adorning nearly every wall, door, nook, and overhead pipe of the hotel. Movies will be shown regularly in the first floor theater, but even Hollywood couldn't equal the dramatic goings-on here over the last century. Once home to an upscale men's clothing store, bar, barber shop, pool hall and bowling alley, the storefronts that once beckoned passers-by now boast a fully restored, pressed tin ceiling, comfy chairs and sofas, and capacity for 300 people. The movie theater will show recent releases of the silver screen, cult classics, art films and more. McMenamins handcrafted ales, wines, spirits, available from the adjacent New Tourist Bar, will be available to take into the shows.

Extractions: Olympic year 1984 brought two big sport events to Tivoli. First one was World Championship in bowling, 15th till then. In contrast with other sports, Slovene bowling teams never organized the biggest competition in this sport even though our teams were always among the top teams in the world. World Championship in Ljubljana was full of superlatives and was something new in the world level in many areas in history of bowling. Many bowlers were surprised by the scene - a huge hall (in bowling terms) that accepted a few thousand spectators. The Tivoli hall was just about the right size because in the most decisive moments the stands were full. Four-trail bowling hall was great and so was computerized processing of the results in real-time which was new to the World Championships and made the competition more intense than ever before. The championship in Tivoli made bowling a sport for spectators and TV. Similar to World Championship in weightlifting two years ago a new record was set already the first day. That time it was even a history record: 35-year-old mason from Czechoslovakia Vladimir Prochazka reached the magic boundary of 1000 pins and made the best score of all times with 1008 pins. With this, he contributed a lot to the victory of his team but he himself was left without a medal in singles as well as in pairs. But our bowlers had something to celebrate - they got six medals altogether. By winning in women's singles competition, the heroes of our team became Biserka Perman and Stefica Kristof. Our women's team claimed silver medal and Perman ranked 3rd among singles. Men got three bronze medals: in singles competition by Mihajlovic, in doubles competition by Dragas and Boljat and in competition of teams - the whole team.
