Extractions: A Brief History of the Golden Retriever Club of British Columbia The GRCBC had its beginnings in the mid-sixties when local members of the Golden Retriever Club of Canada began running licensed field trials under the sponsorship of the National Club. In 1970, the Golden Retriever Club of Canada approved the formation of the B.C. Chapter of the GRCC. The early members were largely hunting and field trial oriented in their interests. Early influential members included Mr. Christopher Burton, who was made a Life Member in Sept. 1970, and Jack Reid (Goldrange), who gained this honour in 1973. The B.C. Chapters first conformation booster show was held with the Century Dog Club on November 21, 1970. The Club continued to hold CKC licensed field trials and annual boosters in the early seventies. Following a successful fun match for obedience and conformation, held in Fort Langley Park in August 1976, the Club held its first CKC sanctioned match in September 1977. The first specialty show was held March 13, 1981 at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds, Surrey, B.C. with an entry of 75 Goldens in the regular conformation classes and 31 in the regular obedience classes. The GRCBC held its first annual awards banquet in January 1977. Club members Goldens were recognized for earning new titles in conformation, field and obedience competition during the preceding year. Awards for the Top Show Dog, Top Show Bitch, Top Show Puppy, Top Obedience Dog, Top Novice Obedience Dog, Top Field Dog and Top Field Puppy were also presented for the first time. The silver cups used for these awards originally came from the collection of Col. Samuel Magoffin of the famous Rockhaven Kennels in North Vancouver and were donated to the GRCBC by Mr. Christopher Burton. Included in the collection was the cup won by Am.Can. Ch. Speedwell Pluto on the occasion of the first Best in Show win by a Golden Retriever in North America at the Puget Sound Kennel Club (Washington State) in December 1933. Additional awards were added over the years and the silver cups were mounted on wooden teak and oak bases made for the Club by members Barrie Mills and Bill Joyner.

He was later baptised in Cardston by Charles Ora Card. 1902, Mar 5, BC was added to the Northwest States Mission. 1903, May 14 - President Nephi Pratt of the Northwestern States Mission organized the Victoria Conference with Elder W. M. Swan of Salt Lake City, UT, as the president. 1904 - The president of the Northwest States Mission visited Vancouver and found an LDS family.

The story begins with the acquisition of X-rays by the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria in 1899 and the treatment of a "sarcoma" of the jaw at the Vancouver City Hospital in April 1902. The first cures using radium were described in 1910 by a retired naval surgeon at St Paul's Hospital. (Click thumbnail image at left to zoom.) The desire to centralize treatment in a first class clinic in the 1930s led to the creation of the British Columbia Cancer Institute. The progress of the Institute is traced through to the creation of the provincial British Columbia Cancer Agency in the last quarter of the century. The story closes on December 31st 2000. The narrative is liberally referenced with source material and contains 123 black and white illustrations, personal remembrances, biographical sketches of significant individuals and Author's Notes to help guide those less familiar with the scientific aspects of the treatment.

Extractions: In 1974, the Chairman of the BC Construction Association, Wayne Farmer, of Farmer Construction Ltd., approached the then Deputy Minister of Public Works, Government of BC, and those public Works officials responsible for the calling of BC Government construction tenders, and the administration and payment of contracts once they were awarded. The BCCA, for their part, were also concerned that such a major purchaser of construction was experiencing difficulty in getting bids, and in addition, felt that their contractors were not receiving prompt payment for work done, as well as experiencing frustrations in the current tendering procedures, and in dealing with the Province's many Ministries and Agencies, which had many differing ways of purchasing construction. With the approval of the Minister, a committee was formed, comprising George Giles, Deputy Minister, Wayne Farmer, Chairman, BCCA, Stan Edgcombe, Contracts Administrator, and Doug Grey, Director of Construction.This committee was known as the Joint Technical Planning Committee (JTPC), and its objectives were to even out the peaks and valleys in the government construction programme, to achieve better communication with the industry, and to reduce problems in the system of dealing with contracts once awarded.

We have also included some information about the management and operation of BCAS, and a few operational statistics. BCAS provides public ambulance service in B.C. under the authority of the Emergency Health Services Commission of the provincial Ministry of Health Services. The commission is mandated to oversee the broad responsibility of overall emergency medical service provision, regulation and direction in B.C. History The province has had a long history of varying degrees of involvement with ambulance service provision to the citizens of B.C. However, it was not until July 1, 1974 that government legislation was enacted to create the BCAS. It was formed in response to growing concerns about the conditions then present in the ambulance industry of the day. Emergency pre-hospital medical services were supplied by a mixture of commercial operators - some operating from funeral homes - some partially subsidized by municipalities - some based with volunteer fire departments - and some of which existed on paid subscriptions from the public. The competition between ambulance companies was intense, standards were not uniformly observed, and effective patient care was often an afterthought.

Extractions: Introduction This website contains a list of books, magazines, newspapers and some music materials that have been subject to censorship challenges in British Columbia, including materials that have been banned nation-wide by the government of Canada. The list was compiled from existing print sources (mainly newspapers) and websites, and thus includes only censorship challenges reported in the media. When gathering information for the site, the researcher used the definitions of censorship found in the Oxford English Dictionary and Websters Third New International Dictionary . An amalgamation of these two definitions reads as follows: Censorship : The act or system of changing the content of, or restricting or prohibiting access to information because an individual or organization finds the information unacceptible; the deliberate attempt of governments, churches, groups and individual persons to prevent others from freely expressing themselves. Historical research and site design/construction were carried out by Corey Schultz, MLIS 2001 graduate of the School of Library, Archival, and Information Studies (SLAIS) at the University of British Columbia (UBC). The project was initiated by the British Columbia Library Association (BCLA) Intellectual Freedom Committee, and supervised by Dr. Ann Curry, Associate Professor, SLAIS-UBC. Professor Beatty prominent historian and philosopher of science specializing in the history and philosophy of biology, conceptual and methodological problems in evolutionary biology and genetics, and the history of evolutionary biology and genetics. Scott Anderson has accepted a junior position in value theory. Professor Anderson completed his doctorate at the University of Chicago in 2001 and is now teaching at SUNY Albany. He works on coercion and also on practical necessity. His publications include "Prostitution and Sexual Autonomy: Making Sense of the Prohibition on Prostitution" in the 2002 volume of Ethics (read it on-line) UBC is hosting a conference exploring topics at the intersection of aesthetics and epistemology.
