Depuis le début du mois de janvier, plusieurs médias allemands et autrichiens relayent des rumeurs selon lesquelles des sportifs parmi lesquels des biathlètes auraient eu recours aux services du laboratoire autrichien Humanplasma lui-même impliqué dans une enquête diligentée par l'Agence mondiale antidopage. Il est en effet reproché à ce laboratoire de pratiquer le dopage sanguin. Durant les championnats, plusieurs biathlètes sont directement désignés dans une lettre anonyme adressée à un quotidien autrichien.
