The neighbourhood is known for its large private gardens, sweeping views of Haro Strait, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Mt. Baker and the Olympic Mountains. Product Description
In general, there are three types of Chinatowns in North America: Frontier and rural Chinatowns, urban Chinatowns, suburban Chinatowns. The first two types of Chinatowns were typically pioneered by early Chinese immigrants in the 19th to the mid-20th centuries. Suburban quasi-"Chinatowns" ? altogether replacing the functions of their original counterparts ? were developed due to the arrival of later waves of new ethnic Chinese immigrants as well as the in flow of investments, mostly during the 1970s and 1980s (these are not considered Chinatowns in the usual sense of the word). ... Product Description
Landcover mapping is an important tool for natural resource managers. The incorporation of remotely sensed data to produce landcover maps is becoming more common, as a result of lower cost and greater availability of image data. One factor that can negatively affect landcover classifications is topographic variation, particularly in mountainous areas. Four unsupervised classification methods were compared using Landsat Thematic Mapper data (TM) to test the effect of topography on landcover classification for two different landcover classification legends. ... Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "British Columbia," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have British Columbia in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with British Columbia when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name British Columbia, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Yuquot (meaning "Wind comes from all directions") or Friendly Cove is a small settlement of less than 25 on Nootka Island in Nootka Sound, just west of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. It was the summer home of Chief Maquinna and the Mowachaht/Muchalaht (Nuu-chah-nulth) people for generations, housing approximately 1,500 natives in 20 traditional wooden longhouses. Captain James Cook's visit to Nootka Sound in 1778 was the first known European sighting of Yuquot. A Spanish naval post, Santa Cruz de Nuca, protected by the cannon of Fort San Miguel, the only Spanish settlement ever established in Canada, was maintained there between 1789 and 1795, with Nootka Sound, usually referred to simply as "Nootka", becoming an important focal point for English, Spanish, and American Maritime Fur Trader and explorers. Yuquot was also the scene of the Nootka Incident, which nearly led to war between Spain and Britain. Negotiations in Europe calmed the situation and led to the first Nootka Convention. ...
