Wonderful story about a Canadian town!
This has nothing to do with the televison show since Dawson's Creek isn't real (and isn't even a town) but it is so wonderful! Besides being inexpensive you get four wonderful books in one! If you look in the back you will find other titles that are just as good as British Columbia!

This is an excellent overview of the history of hardhat diving.
With his book, A.C. (Fred) Rogers, the author, plunges into records and details of many shipwrecks along the shores of British Columbia. He writes about salvaging lost ships and records of faded wooden ships lost to the sea. Rogers spent 50 years interviewing, researching and diving on many of these shattered vessels. ... Read more

Caution about the Title
When I purchased this book (incidentally, it's a paperback), I believed that it would be a history of Stewart and Hyder. Actually, it is more of a church history of Stewart and Hyder. It was interesting to browse through since I had visited this area, but I was more interested in the town history rather than religious activity in the area.

In the early 1900s, British Columbia embarked on a brief but intense effort to manufacture a modern countryside. The government wished to reward veterans of the Great War with new lives: soliders and other settlers would benefit from living in a rural community, considered a more healthy and moral alternative to urban life. But the fundamental reason for the land resettlement project was the rise of progressive or "new liberal" thinking, as reformers advocated an expanded role for the state in guaranteeing the prosperity and economic security of its citizens.

This ideological shift pushed the government to intervene directly in the management of not only society but also the natural environment. As most arable, accessible land in British Columbia was already being farmed by 1919, the state had to undertake environmental engineering projects on a scale not yet attempted in the province.
