For the Good Times As Well As the Bad
The first few pages did not grab my attention. In fact I was disappointed because it was talking about how it hoped the elections of November 2006 would turn out. My next mistake was comparing this book to others rather than on its own merit.Somewhere after the first several pages, the authors hit their stride or I did, and the book held my attention to the end.

Authors Lindorff and Olshanskyfirst ask the question, "Why impeachment?"in which they lay out the deceit and deception perpetrated by Bush & Co. They give the history of impeachment and how it has evolved in American law. Here Lindorff and Olshansky introduce nuance of impeachment that I had not been aware of. "In 1974, the House Judiciary Committed examined the history of federal impeachment proceedings and issued a report describing three categories of impeachable offenses..." 1) "actions involving or exceeding or abusing the constitutional limits on the powers of the office at the expense of the powers of another branch of government" 2) "conduct fundamentally incomparable with the function and purpose of the office of the offender" and 3) are "actions that involved using the power and authority of the offenders' office for an improper purpose or forpersonal gain."

The authors start the next six chapters with an article of impeachment for George W. Bush. They make excellent arguments for impeachment under several of them e.g. When George Bush adds signing statement to bills stating what parts of the bill he will enforce or ignore,or claims that it does not apply to him, he is relegating the legislative branch to an advisory role rather than an equal branch of government. George Bush has taken the first step toward dictatorship by disavowing his vow to uphold the Constitution and laws of the United States. Bush claims this right as commander in chief even though the Constitution clearly states that the President is the C in C of the army and navy only.

But Herr Bush is not their only consideration for impeachment. They add Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleeza Rice, and Alberto Gonzalez. Here the authors are kind enough to make an important distinction for the reader. The president is the only one who is protected from criminal indictment while in office. His impeachment means only removal from office. However, all the others described here can be impeached and indicted for criminal charges. The knowledgeable reader will be able to imagine with a fair degree of accuracy what those charges might entail.

The appendices here are kind of the grand prize. They include The Downing Street Memo, the Niger Forgeries, the Taguba Report, the International Committee of the Red Cross Report, the FBI Memo Regarding Torture at Guantanamo, the Gonzalez Memo on Torture, The Federal Indictment of I. Lewis Libby, and the Rumsfeld Memo on Torture. These all point to incompetence, deception of the American people, violation of our treaties and the Geneva Conventions. All of these come under the province of high crimes and misdemeanors.

In closing the authors remind us that, "The Constitution was not just conceived as a document for the good times, It was meant to guide the nation through times of conflict, trouble, and stress as well."

It's also bigger than any one man.

The nice people who wrote this book put forth 10 "grounds" for impeaching President Bush.

In order for one to put forth these "grounds" for impeachment with a straight face I can only conclude that that person has not really been paying attention, or they have extremely limited reasoning skills

1. Stole Florida election in 2000.
Gore started the recounts, the recount worked its way through the courts, the Supreme Court decided seven to two to stop the recount the way it was being done, and five to four to let Secretary Harris's certification of the election stand.The issue worked its way through the system the way it was supposed to, the system reached a conclusion.Bottom line George Bush "stole" nothing.




2. Lied on Iraq to Congress, the Public, and the United Nations.
To lie is to knowingly tell a falsehood.The position articulated by the Bush administration with regard to Iraq's WMD's and other bad behavior, is the same position that every major intelligence agency believed.The British, the French, the Israelis, the Italians, the Russians, etc. all believe the same thing about Saddam and his weapons program.No objective observer could conclude that Bush lied.

3. 9-11 Cover-Up and Obstruction of Justice.
The most ridiculous charge on a list of ridiculous charges.It truly does not warrant a response.Only the most mentally deranged subscribe to the various 9/11 cover-up theories.

4. Violated Rights of Citizens including Habeas Corpus.
Who?Irregular enemy combatants have no rights.You hold them until the war is over, or you execute them. That's just how it is that's all they're entitled to.Close Gitmo,hang them all.


5. NSA Program to Listen to Citizens without Warrant.
A practice that existed pre-9/11, under the Clinton administration.No lefties are whining about that.POST 9/11 GWB clearly had authority to surveil communications between enemy combatants and persons in the US. Lefties need to remember that FISA does not trump the presidents constitutional powers.

6. Violated International Treaties Including Geneva Convention.
The irregular combatants of Al Qaeda are covered by I believe the fourth Geneva Convention.Under that agreement you regular/terrorist combatants once captured can be interrogated by almost any means and promptly executed.Only real soldiers are entitled to the protections of the of the Geneva conventions.

7. Actively Encouraged, as a Policy, Use of Torture.
No evidence to support this.
8. Gross Negligence on Hurricane Katrina.
1300 schoolbuses underwater, Ray Nagan fleeing with his family to Texas. Louisiana's governor crying instead of asking for federal help.
Whatever flaws there were in FEMa's response, responsibility for the initial response was with the city and state they bungled it incredibly, they failed completely.

9. Iraq Contract Corruption--Bremer "Lost" $8 billion in cash, sole source awards, and gross negligence in managing the peace.
Wars cost money.HeckMassachusetts lost $15 billion on the Big Dig.

10. Stole Ohio election in 2004.
Oh please stop.The lefties in the fools ran a pompous, bloviating, anti-American lowlife (who yes spent four months in Vietnam), who lost by about 4 million votes nationwide, but Bush stole Ohio. Puuuuleeeezzzz.

In summary this is a book by and for moonbats.

What, no angry reviews from Republicans?
Funny how rightwingers are strangely silent when you really have their number. A book such as this which makes a clear case for the evil and corrupt nature of the class A idiots that have cheated the taxpayer, betrayed the nation and disgraced the U.S. around the world while launching an unnecessary and very costly (half a trillion dollars) invasion of a foreign land should be being attacked soundly by Bill 'Falafel' O'Really, I'm a Man Coulter, Sean Scammity and the other assorted losers the Right holds up as intellects. But no, they'd rather attack 'moonbats, 'libs' and the rest of the world for 'hating America'. Its the Right that truly hates America and damages it.

One item missing from the book: the Bush family has had business dealings with the Bin Ladin family for decades - isn't that worth investigating post-9-11?

So many truths....so little action
This book certainly revealed the lies and tricks committed by our government during the Busch Administration.I am sick of the cover-ups while the so called leaders of government choose to wear blinders and yet rack in the dollars.The Iraq War did not need to happen.

The mishandling of the Katrina situation was especially disturbing.

If you are not afraid to face some ugly truths, this is a book that is hard to put down.

Important Read
Vincent Bugliosi has an exceptional talent in seeing the truth without being distracted.Anyone who still doesn't understand why some of us despise George w. Bush need only read Part I to learn why he and his administration are such a disgrace.

In Part II, veteran prosecutor Bugliosi makes the specific legal case for the potential prosecution of the former president for murder.He demonstrates why and how both federal and state courts have jurisdiction, and reminds us that there is no statute of limitations for murder.He ends the section saying, "Even if this doesn't happen and what I have said receives all of the attention of a new fly in the forest, I do know that someone had to say what is written on the pages of this book."

Part III illustrates why George W. Bush's reputation for being strong against the threat of terrorism is completely undeserved.

The concept of the book is excellent, but the execution needed improvement.Mr. Bugliosi could have used a better editor to handle some of the repetition, and to rein in some of the language.Surely, the topic invites words of disgust, horror and dismay; however, his language often veers into hysteria that threatens to derail the focus on actually prosecuting George W. Bush for the murder of over 4,000 U.S. military personnel in the Iraq war.There were several places where more sober language would have been less disruptive.I also quibble that Mr. Bugliosi always refers to the fallen U.S. service members as fallen young men, and makes no mention of the fallen women.

My hope is that this book doesn't disappear into oblivion, but that it continues to be read, especially by younger people.

Mind Blowing!!
This is a must-read for anyone who even remotely doubts that Bush started his trumped-up war for anything other than ulterior motives. Bugliosi never attempts to try to delve into the narrow-width mind of Dubya to come up with his motives but he presents a compelling and convincing case for Bush's intentions. I was virtually convinced before I read this book that the war was contrived. Now I know it was. Bush/Cheney/Rice&Rumsfeld all belong in prison.

BUSH IS THE FALL GUY
I have to agree to disagree. Bush and the Bushes are simply co-conspirators. GW could not even tie his shoes, not to mention control such a huge conspiracy and attack upon the world and the American people. The real family running the world is the enemy of the civilized world and their name is the Rothschild. The other side of the coin is the Rockefellers who are on the same team. These familes have killed millions by financing wars for hundreds of years. They run the Federal Reserve, and BP not to metion own 50% of the world's wealth they acquired through murder and deception. Google these familes, and don't be ignorant. GW is only a pawn. Unbiased when it comes to the legal arguments....
The Author's intent is to lay out a case of prosecuting Mr Bush for murder. Namely the murder of over 100,000 innocent Iraq civilians and currently 4400 dead American soldiers sent over there based on lies and fabrication of the facts by Mr Bush and his administration.

It's very obvious MR Vincent Bugliosi cares very little for Mr Bush as a person, politician, man of integrity etc ... It's also very obvious, and stated by the author that Mr Bugliosi swings to the left when it comes to his personal politics.

Mr Bugliosi states quite vigorously through the book that his case is NOT one of politics but one of law. "Had Mr Bush been a democrat" states Mr Bugliosi, "I'd still be writing this book".

His case revolves around the handling and reporting of information that started and sustained the run up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003 by the U.S. led coalition. He homes in on "tampering and changing of FBI and CIA data", the Joe Wilson "16 words" incident, Colin Powell's U.N. address and other instances of lying and deceit by the administration. His arguments are persuasive and he backs everything up with references and very reputable sources.

It's very obvious he's angry and coupled with his obvious dislike of Mr Bush I personally feel he did a good job of remaining objective in presenting his case with, supporting evidence that would hold up in court. His charges are based on the conspiracy law which says, in layman's terms, all of the conspirators are equally guilty when, due to their plans and actions, murder has taken place. This was how he prosecuted Manson for the Tate, La Bionca murders.

Spattered throughout the book are instances of Mr Bugliosi's personal opinions of Mr Bush along with some demeaning name calling which, I feel could have been left out but the overall impact is minor on the theme of the book.

I have to admit being apathetic to the Bush presidency and I joined the debate regarding his presidency late after I started to read about and research his and his cabinet's antics. I think Mr Bugliosi has a case. Whether anyone will pick it up or not I don't know. I understand Pelosi has already stated "impeachment is off the table" so - now Mr Bush has left office it's up to a state's prosecutor to bring charges. Mr Bugliosi mentions that soldiers, sailors, airmen etc from all 50 states have been "murdered" by Bush so all 50 state prosecutors could bring charges.

Whatever your politics if you can remain objective this is a pretty good read.

Idiotic
This book is idiotic. Does this author realize that NBC, CNN, ABC and CBS all called Florida originally for Gore, with less than 75% precincts reporting, which cost Bush literally hundreds of thousands of votes in Florida's pan handle? And that this early call for Florida in Gore's favor cost Bush perhaps millions of votes nationwide?

Book lacks obvious research and uses vague references to come to the conclusion that the author hoped to arrive at - that somehow the media and Jeb Bush stole the election for Bush. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Compelling
This is a brisk but comprehensive overview of the 2000 election.Despite the inherently democratic bias of the what the book is asserting, the book never comes off as whining and references are plenty.One of the author's main points is that the Fox News channel prematurely called Florida for Bush, and all of the other networks blindly followed suit to avoid being the only network to not have this information.Hours later it was clear the state was too close to call for either candidate, but because all of the networks had called Florida and thus the entire election for Bush, Gore's later contentions were perceived as those of a "loser" trying to overturn a result in his favor, when in fact the reality of the situation was that Bush had never "won" the state to begin with.Had the state never been called, the perception would have been that Florida would simply require some extra time to be talliedand there wouldn't have been the same sort of "Sore Loserman" public backlash to Gore's recount efforts.It's pretty convincing stuff.

Where the author failed to convince me of though was that the "Bushies" made a concious effort to "steal" the election.The author describes what happened as George Bush's cousin John Ellis being encouraged by Florida governor Jeb Bush to call the state.This, of course, turned out to be foolish, but ultimately FOX was sticking their neck out in the call.The author's tone suggests that this was some grand scheme planned out from the beginning, that the Bushies somehow knew exactly how the scenario would play out and that their move would turn public opinion against Gore.

Ultimately though, this was a compelling book and at less than 150 pages, worth anyone's time.

Where everything started
Thinking how U.S. found itself in the Iraqi quagmire? Well, the 2000 Florida nightmare, of course. This book is a good rundown of what happened then and why, from the vantage point of where things actually started ticking: the tv screens which projected Bush winning, following the lead of Fox and - guess who? - Jeb Bush. Moore can be repetitive, but, if you are interested in politics, his account of the inner workings of pollsters and statisticians behind the screen in electoral nights is a must read. ... Read more

It is a good book to read for anyone who wants to find more about one of my favorite presidents,George W. Bush!A man of character and moral values a man called by God to lead this blessed country in those times of panic and tragedy!He knows what freedom means not just to our country but to any other country in the world!The book shows how God can use a man who is willing to change and be a blessing for all around him!I highly recommend this book!

President George W. Bush - greatest leader of the 21st century
Those who keep screaming at the top of their lungs obscenities about this great man are obviously people who are so entenched in their own liberal philosophies that they simply can't be reasoned with despite the facts. I think, like the last competent democrat president Harry Truman, in time after his presidency is complete, history will give him the credit he deserves in doing more than anyone else in history to try to end tyrrany in the world and dealt state sponsored terrorism a crippling blow. There is a reason this man held the reigns of the most powerful nation on the face of the planet at times such as these - God knew he had the strength to withstand the unprecedented pressure of the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil and the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. His liberal critics conveniently leave out the facts that both situations were a direct result of democrats' dangerous liberal policies: Clinton and his worthless and unending "proportional" responses to terrorist attacks and congressional democrats constant obstruction to regulate major mortgage banks. One reviewer of this book asked, "How does he sleep at night?" Much better than you I bet - because his conscience is clear and unlike you, he's actually done something great with his life. Remember that this country no longer has a military draft so all the brave men and women who have given their lives to defend this great nation in recent years were all volunteers who soberly weighed the consequences of their decision to put on the uniform. If there were more men of faith like him, the whole world would be a better place.

What does converting to Christianity have to do with U.S. policy?
This "family friendly" exposition of George W. Bush's journey into Christian faith, describes his conversion and his declaration of faith well, in clear and in as complimentary terms as one could expect. However, by not examining the meaning of this conversion in light of the 43rd President's record, it seems to beg an important question: What has Mr. Bush's Christian faith meant in terms of how he has governed, or in terms of how "un-Christian-like" most of his policy actions have actually turned out to be?

Except for his African AIDS initiative, one would be hard-pressed to find in this book any "Christian-like resonances" emanating from the GW Bush administration, or from any of his policies. One wonders what kind of grade Jesus might have given Mr. Bush on how Christian his humanitarian record has been? Surely by omitting the connections between his Christianity and the humanity of his policies, the author is not intentionally leaving open the possibility that our 43rd President's Christian conversion was mere cynical, if not astute politics, without any substantive meaning whatsoever?

I admit, I am not a G.W. Bush fan, and am a "born-again non-Christian," but I do approach each book, including this one, with an open mind. I had the hope that I would find a new kind of meaning in G.W. Bush's Christian conversion, but try as I might there is none of that here. What one finds instead is that while "turning to Jesus" may have saved GW's from his own descent into personal self-destruction, and did indeed save his presidential candidacy, it did not change his hard-conservative heart:

Mr. Bush still stands alone among Christian Presidents as having executed more death row criminals than any other official in U.S. History. His un-Christian-like negligence during the Katrina Hurricane was not just incompetent, but smacked of racism and of Christian uncaring, and left a black mark on the American humanitarian record that will endure. Arguably this negligence was one of the most irresponsible domestic acts ever committed by a U.S. President. Add to this the pre-emptive aspects of the new "Bush doctrine," which is to shoot first, declare victory and then ask the hard questions later, and one begins to want to ask of GW the Tina Turner question:"What does converting to Christianity have to do with any of this?"

How does he sleep at night?
How many people are now dead because of the stubbern recklessness of this pompous man?
It makes me sick to the stomach to see him refered to as "spiritual". In this particular case his ACTIONS have spoken, loudly, to the kind of person he truly is. Just because we've been fed lies over and over again does not mean that they've become truth.

President Bush: A great man of faith and a great President
I guess I am the only one that has actually read this book and the Bible. An unnecessary war? Maybe these people have been hiding under a rock. Written by a paid administration shill, published by a right-wing vanity press, this weakly researched book had one defining characteristic: It took the side it was made for, blindly.
Two years later, the fallacies the book expounded, and those built into the writing itself, have become widely exposed. The result, for a contemporary reader, will be just another expose of an overconfident administration, albeit one that back in 2004-2006 was still yet eager to project itself via any pay-to-write scribe it could get its hands on.

Could Not Put It Down!
This is the finest 'behind the campaign scene' book I've ever read. That goes for fiction and non-fiction alike.

The way the Bush/Cheney/Rove/Rice team handle the various media attacks and political roadblocks is astounding.

Watching the top American media sources finally implode under the pressure of trying to make a great man look bad is a thing of beauty.

Like the majority of my countrymen, I voted for Bush Jr both terms. What I see in Bush is a strong leader who cares about this country.

Understanding our need to be in the middle-east, particularly Iraq, is imperative for whomever we elect in '08. I hope they will have read, 'Strategery'.

The Real West Wing
This is an awesome book, I could not put it down.It's like the tv show "The West Wing" but you know it's all real life.Bill Sammon was able to get exclusive behind the sceens access, and see first hand America go to war in Iraq, and a President win re-election and deal with Hurricane Katrina.

Childishly Written
I am a right wing super freak. I have no problems with the facts or views in this book. I do have a problem with the "emotional coloring" by Sammon. It's like he's trying activate certain emotions and attitudes that are childishly simplistic. Right out of the gate we go into the siege of Rove's home by misinformed libby protestors. Rove comes off sounding like a man cowering in a corner while people pound on his windows like a dawn of the dead movie. This book talks down to readers in a condescending way that only small children wouldn't notice and I keep remembering books from my childhood....."see Jane run." Bill....please stop helping my party.

Like Sitting in the Oval Office
This is Bill Sammon's third book on the Presidency of George W. Bush. The extraordinary access given to Mr. Sammon is evident in the detail and atmosphere that is consistent throughout this whole series. I am assuming (Always a dangerous thing!) that this access has been provided because the author actually tries to be as objective as possible, a trait sorely missing in the media of today. As this review is written, we are reacting to the discovery of the latest Islamic terror plot to kill thousands of passengers in jumbo jets over the Atlantic. Watching the press and politicians try to spin the story, along with the constant parade of altered 'news' photos from Lebanon, it is refreshing, and critically important, to know that somebody in the media actually sticks to the facts instead of injecting his political and personal prejudices into every word produced.

Mr. Sammon sticks to the facts and occasionally asks the hard questions. His unfettered access comes through in the open and easy answers the President provides to his questions. As a self professed "News Junkie", I like to think that I keep myself well informed; but I have learned much from reading this book. Mr. Sammon's "behind the scenes' insight reached it's height in his coverage of election night 2004. The reader will come away with a much clearer understanding of what really happened on Election Day 2004, and well into that night. It seemed that the TV networks had sunk as low as possible in their 2000 Election coverage, but they managed to top their sorry performance in 2004. Throughout the marathon, shamelessly prolonged by the media, Mr. Sammon conveys the evolving situation, from the disastrous, flawed early exit polls, through the state-by-state results trickling in throughout the evening, to the media attempts to influence the results in the 'battleground' state of Ohio. As the events of the night unfold, Mr. Sammon accurately captures the highs and lows of the Bush team as they try to make sense of conflicting and contradictory information. His account of how the President and his inner circle reacted to, and attempted to interpret, what was actually happening, alone makes the book worth reading.

This is the third installment of Mr. Sammon's coverage of the Bush Administration, and the three books flow easily, covering the past six years in his easy, readable style.

This is no "Puff Piece" about the Bush Era, but a balanced, easily read account of what has happened on the inside. These are difficult times, and it is important that we all stay well informed and involved. This book makes it easier to do so. It will be interesting to see how these books stand the test of time. Title isabsurd.
"Made in Texas"? What a joke. Bush isn't a Native Texan first of all.He didn't graduate high school here, didn't graduate college here, and was born of two Yankees. In fact, virtually all of his education was done in elitistinstitutions in the northeast. Just because you move to Texas and put on a cowboy hat doesn't make you a Texan!!

Michael Lind scores another big hit with this book
In this book you will find the fascinating story of how sociological conditions in Texas, via George W. Bush's idiosyncrasy, are shaping world history.

The "South" (from Virginia to Texas) have been historically dominated by an Anglo-Celt white majority.This dominant group has retained more sociological features akin to the British of earlier centuries (plantation mentality, untrammeled capitalism, and rabid religious postures) than with the rest of the American Nation.

This life outlook, according to Mr. Lind, is shared by George W. Bush and it is guiding his style of governing.Thus, we are saddled with international adventurism and unilateralism, an economy increasingly resting on the exporting of raw materials (as opposed to finished goods) and, tolerance of corporate cronyism.This book deserves five stars.

A little long winded but...good!
Reading this book was a little shocking at the beginning, but kinda gets long winded in the middle, but ends with a bang! Mr. Lind has done his homework and puts forth compelling theories on how the Republican Party has been Hijacked by Southern Protestant Religious Zealots, who's dispensationalist aims are scary and not of a sane rational mind. They believe the world is coming to an end and only "they" will be taken up. They have a ready and williing and not so bright former alcoholic/drug addict turned religious conservative as President, to further their agenda of bringing about Amageddon. Read and learn...but I suggest skimming through the middle chapters! Good Book!

Prescience
I am half way through this book and am amazed at Lind's prescience.Everything he wrote about three years agois happening today.Exactly.I am purchasing another copy to start my friends reading it.I wanted to know how such a stupid man like Bush became President. I am being shown.

This book is a perfect example of what can go bad when a journalist starts writing about history
Lind's understanding of Southern History is limited. He beats the Scotch-Irish thing to death, without really understanding the history of the group or the fact that the group's perceived influence has balloonedway out of proportion to their actual importance. His interpretation of American History in general is strongly influenced by David Hackett Fischer's Albion's Seed, a very problematic book. The latter was influenced by Grady McWhiney's Cracker culture, once again a very problematic book. If you want to see where Lind's ideas are coming from I would advise readers to look at those two titles.

He also ignores the role of British and Northern Evangelicalism in the formation of modern American Conservatism. He is right about the Anglo-Calvinist influence in American politics, but he forgets that it wasn't Southerners who brought this tradition into politics. Basically what Lind, and alot of other people don't get is that Bush represents a hybrid of Northern and Frontier Southern. A sort of ideological love child of Andrew Jackson and John "Potawotamie" Brown. The messianic concept of America and her role in the world is not a Southern invention, if Lind had done his homework he would have understood this.

Much of what Lind writes is pure stereotypical mean spirited rants directed at Southerners, but not at the Military-Industrial complex [i.e. the actual beneficiaries of the continued state of war]. If you want a real critic of the Republican party stick with Chalmers Johnson. ... Read more

Bush began running for public office in the 1990s, questions have been raised in the public eye about his service in the Air National Guard during the late 1960s and early 1970s -- when countless American soldiers (John Kerry among them) were serving heroically in Vietnam. By the time of the presidential race in 2000, it was clear that Bush's record of service contained several troubling gaps -- especially in the period between May 1972 and May 1973, when Bush was supposed to have transferred to the Alabama Air National Guard. In early 2004, as the election season heated up, the White House bowed to pressure and released a host of documents related to Bush's service, promising that this disclosure would put the matter to rest. Yet the documents raised as many new questions as they answered. Now, for the first time, the comprehensive written record of George W. While author pursue very Liberal agenda, he has no talent to describe, or logically lead discussion. In the book he is spewing hate toward his fellow Texan.I think, George Wmade own share of mistakes, buthe didmostly what he believe in, also he had to deal with biggestterrorist act in US history.He had to rebuild CIA, FBI, and all branches of military to fix the harm that was done by Clinton by cutting intelligence and military budgets. Obviously,he had more class than Barak Hussein.He did not blame Clinton for anything that went wrong with his presidency.

"Hot-Air" Smith
Objectively read the records and the facts show a person with a high level of achievement: a degree from Yale and several years of military service, often with exceptional marks. The writer shows a lot of bias.

i don't like bush at all, and i don't like the way he makes texans look; even though he isn't really a texan, he was born in conneticut. do yourself a favor, and buy this book.

Another Texan for Truth
As a Texan, I've taken a lot of good-natured ribbing from activist friends around the world.

They have told me that the best way to save the country would be to send Bush back to Texas. Because it ultimately implies that I and other Texans unanimously had supported Bush, this statement is a gross generalization. We actually had more reason to oppose his ascension than people from other states.

Plus, already knowing what Bush would do to America and the world if he (unlike the figurehead Texas Governor position) actually had power, provided all the incentive which I needed to vote against him in 2000 and 2004.

I and other alert Texans COULD NOT reside under the illusion that George W. Bush was somehow 'moderate'. We also knew that it did matter who actually won the presidential elections.

Mounting casualties in Iraq coupled with a skyrocketing federal deficit are affirming just how bad a Bush administration really is for the world. Amidst a growing number of 'Bush' supporter head-scratching and (actually) genuine bewilderment, we say "I told you so".

Continuing a pattern begun in early adulthood (to escape the Vietnam War he allegedly supported) Bush is a good-ole boy who depends on his family name and the monetary connections to avoid the situations which other Texans had to deal with.

Borrowing an `image' page from Ronald Reagan and his father's playbook, Bush intentionally cultivates an image of the 'rugged cowboy' who has made it on his own without any assistance.

In addition to downplaying the importance of government, the `cowboy' also is supposed to suggest that the president is a John-Wayne figure who will of course be able to protect the country against whatever is considered a threat.

Yet, the truth is that Bush is a naive and sheltered person who has never had to take responsibility for his actions.

This is why the Bush administration honestly is not bothered that they have lied to the American people, or are slaughtering American troops (who already face enough danger) with that same fabricated evidence about Iraq WMD's. As long as somebody else can go to war in their place, these people sincerely do not see a contradiction in their own actions.

Even if I have personally read the general gist of this book elsewhere, I was pleased to see it again. The truth always bears repeating.

The American people (and those in Texas) want to easily be comforted by 'security' images. Constant repetition of the real facts may thus be the very tool which encourages these swing voters to stop voting for the GOP---and/or recognize they are not the only Texans who hate Bush's war against the world. There are far more of us out here than the so-called liberal mass media has recognized.

Don't send Bush back to Texas, lock him up far, far away where he will never be able to hurt anybody again.

Clarification

Fascinating
Love him or hate him, this book is a fascinating historical account of Rove's ascendancy from Texas political consultant to White House policy maker woven in with that of W's. Because of its publication date, it doesn't cover the Iraq war debacle, though the authors hint at the duo's motivations for the invasion. Great read for political junkies on either side of the spectrum.

Still relevant
This book is particularly relevant concerning the current election and how things are done in this White House.It is difficult to believe someone with Karl Rove's track record is a close presidential advisor, and it says a good deal about a president who chooses a confidant who has exercised the techniques Rove has used.

Rove is scary
After reading the book "Boy Genuis" I have came to the conclusion that it is a bad thing that John Kerry is leading in the polls.Rove will go dirty fast because he simply hates to lose.HE has transformed Texas into what he hopes America will become, an unabashed Republican stronghold.His pandering to the religous right by being the liason between the White House and those groups is so laughable considering Rove himself has said religion is unimportant to him.That may be true except on one day every four years, on that day, his role as the Republican party's greatest asset comes in handy.Rove knows that economic conservatives and moral conservatives despise what they "perceive" the Democratic Party stands for: big government, tax hikes, loose morals, diversity, and weak foreign policy.Karl Rove has exploited these perceptions with a "whatever it takes" mentality.He blew through the streets of Austin leaving only like minded conservatives in his wake.He has been in Washington for almost four years, four more and the divide and hate in this country will reach a fevered pitch.Lets hope Nixon and Lee Atwater won't be proud this election cycle.After reading this book, I'm sure they will though.

The Best and The Scummiest
Every human endeavor has its masters.There are leading physicists, writers, teachers, architects, carpenters and chefs.
The demi-monde also has its corp of top pick-pockets, pimps, snitches and flimflammers.It is to this latter list that we can write the name of Karl Rove. His talents add nothing useful to the world; to the contrary, he and his cabal of mayberry machiavellians' efforts are directed toward finding people's weaknesses and exploiting them, tearing down peoples lives and putting any skeletons on public display, so that "their" guy might win."Boy Genius" depicts the political career of Karl Rove, how he honed his skill and applied them to the benefit of conservative Republicans and especially to George W. Bush.

The authors do give some background information on Rove and briefly describe how he came to embrace right-wing politics.
As a young man, he is described as a "nerd" and one can well imagine that he was the boy who gotten beaten up on the playground at school.But no thorough psychological profiles are hazarded in this work.We learn only that Rove is a rather emotionless person. The authors offer a couple of "Oprah moments" that hint that their subject might harbor some modicum
of humanity.Despite a couple of these excursions into sentimentality, Dubose et al. stick mostly to the political highlights that mark Rove's life.And that is just as well, because we intuit that if we extracted the electoral machinations from this biography, there would be almost nothing left.

But reading this book reveals as much about we Americans and our times as it does about Rove.We would hope to be titilated by some of Rove's underhanded schemes to win elections, but instead find ourselves rather bored with the enterprise.We are used to this sort of dirty dealing and know that both major parties engage in these activities.It's old hat.Karl Rove just happens to be the best and the scummiest at the game that goes on all the time.The victors in political affairs are not those who present the best ideas but rather those who know how to manipulate through the electronic media.We are given in this book an introduction to the Cardinal Richelieu of the Nouveau Regime, Karl Rove.

This is an excellent primer
This is an excellent primer to the illustrious career of "Bush's Brain" as he is called. Of the two books presently popular ("Bush's Brain" is the other) this is the more balanced and thorough; indeed, it often times seems that the authors of Bush's Brain had used this for their source, and there is very little information in that book that is not in here. Don't bother to read both, if you're just looking for an introduction to the subject. A careful portrait of the crafty man that learned his tricks (and even instructed others in the same) during the time of "Tricky Dick" Nixon himself. Must read if you are at all interested in learning how Bush Jr. got to the oval office and why all the "big money" lined up behind him as miraculously early as it did. ... Read more
