3-0 out of 5 stars Condition of book
The book I received did not state in the description that it had been hi-lighted which was a disappointment.

I just want to share this with Amazon for them to follow what people are giving as a description of the item being purchased and what actually is being received.

Since Amazon doesn't see all items before they ship it isn't directly there fault that a customer wasn't honest in the description of the book. I will still continue to purchase text books through Amazon.Thank you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Passed the CLEP!
I used the Barron's Business Law in order to study for the Introductory Business Law CLEP. I studied for weeks using this book. I focused on the sections specified by the college board as being covered on the test. I got a 74/80! I didn't even bother with the REA Business Law book and I tested my knowledge by using the College Board's practice test and that was it. This book is definitely worth the money!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Entrepreneurs
I have read numerous books on law while staring companies. This book is one I turn to on a regular basis when I run into legal questions. It is very diverse, offers excellent information in plain language and allows you to speak confidently and intelligently with your lawyers.I think it should be on every entrepreneurs book shelf.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad deal
The book was in good shape when I got it (and I didn't have to wait long at all). I was a little D: that the practice tests had been written in because that wasn't stated in the product description, but since it was so amazingly cheap I really couldn't bring myself to care. I needed the book to read for a CLEP test and it did the job. I feel quite well prepared.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for every adult.
I purchased this book for CLEP test, and it is very comprehensive. Also, it explains so many legal terms I had heard bandied about as I waded through life that includes contracts and terminology, and the legal system in general.VERY informative, easy to understand, and provides review questions at the end of each chapter. I'm keeping it as a reference. Honestly, this is a subject that should be taught in High School in order to prepare one for life, and this book is a wealth of information.Including shipping, it cost me a little over $6. I anticipate doing well on the CLEP, which will save me a minimum of $1,800 in tuition in books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Buy
I bought this particular book, not as a legal student, but a small business owner looking for some legal answers and advice. Unlike similar books I had purchased prior to this, this book is compact but detailed enough to answer all of the questions I had. I found the format useful and practical, as it was very easy to locate just about any topic off-hand. I was most surprised about how easy a read it is. It is not pretentious, like most legal books, but begins from the assumption that the reader is new to the subject. A great buy. I would highly recommend. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to read
I am only into the third chapter, but for a book that may sound boring, it is actually quite good. The boldface definitions on the side are helpful, and the explanations are clear. The first chapter alone taught me more about torts than I think I learned in an entire semester of torts. It was also a terrific idea to split the chapters by type of business, i.e. sole proprietorship, etc.The book isn't cheap, but overall I think I will get my money's worth by the time the semester is finished.

Product Description

Today’s explosion of independent and digital filmmaking demands a brass-tacks guide to the business and legal aspects of the process. What fundraising options are available to a filmmaker? When should a filmmaker establish a corporation or limited liability company? How do screenwriters protect their work? What are a director’s legal obligations to the producer, cast, and crew--and what are their obligations in return? And why must the filmmaker pay special attention to products and artwork that might appear in the background of a shot?

This indispensable resource addresses the legal, financial, and organizational questions that an independent or guerrilla filmmaker must face, and the problems that will doom a project if left unanswered. It demystifies issues such as founding a film company, obtaining financing, preparing a budget, securing locations, shooting, granting screen credits, and distributing, exhibiting, and marketing a film.

Newly updated and expanded, this second edition explores concepts such as executing a digital distribution strategy through the use of YouTube and “webisodes,” the importance of international distribution, and legal issues particular to documentaries. Six handy appendixes provide sample contracts, copyright circulars, Documentary Filmmakers’ Statement of Best Practices in Fair Use, studio contact information, and more.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Grade "A" Primer for this Indie Filmmaking Guide
As a screenwriter with minor credits who is tired of waiting for others to make my script, I found this book both a sobering and inspirational guide to making a micro budget film. Rather than leaping in blind, I am going to take my time and get the business/legal aspect in good order before I attach a director and talent. I am still no expert on filmmaking, but I found Jon Garon's book to be an eye-opener that has helped make me aware of the myriad challenges ahead to make my first go a successful one.

He covers everything from setting up a film contract and getting your contracts in good order to assembling your production team and assessing your distribution strategy BEFORE proceeding to Principal Photography. And he covers the bases for micro, low budget and modest budget filmmakers.

An Added Bonus - I had a question and emailed Jon and he responded within an hour. He even gave me a URL to point me in the right direction. That's service!

I highly recommend newbie filmmakers (and others) add this book to your library and refer to it often.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource for Starting a No Budget Film Company
Filmmaking is a leap of faith. A lot of people assume someone else will solve all the paperwork problems when distributions is locked. Unfortunately, if your paperwork is not in order and you can't furnish deliverables, you run the risk of losing the distro deal. Deliverables- what you provide to a distributor so they can do their job of marketing your movie- begin at the screenwriting stage.

If you are totally do it yourself and willing to make investments on yourself, why would you leave legalities to the VERY end when you have no choice (at least at the start you have the option of NOT hiring someone if they won't sign an actors release, avoiding a location if the owner won't sign. There's no "getting away" with anything.) This is stuff you hear about in film school, but it doesn't sink in until you experience the limitations caused by putting off the paperwork.

Author Jon Garon provides a legal book that is inclusive of all filmmakers, including no budget guerilla filmmakers. Even books that deal with guerilla filmmaking tend to gloss over the pertinent details that relate to Do-it-yourself-ers. He has some beautiful words of respect for guerilla filmmakers, too. That this is a law and business guide makes it a must have for anyone thinking about making a movie, be it for no money or millions.

This is the first book I've read that goes indepth as to the protections of a sole-proprietor vs. sole-Proprietor LLC (if your state allows it). I set up the LLC today, following his instructions. Took 10 minutes, online. Even went to the irs.gov for the employer id Number. He explains the risks of partnerships, and how you can unwittingly enter a partnership if you and your pals don't set forth an agreement at the start.

Financing is everyone's biggest complaint. This book explores the conventional and alternative financing models (investors vs. disposable income vs. debt financing/credit cards), and goes one better as to compare the risks and rewards of each. The golden quote is "I have never heard of anyone who has gambled her house on a film and won."

He even breaks down setting up your company and chain of command, running your company, working out deferrals and how those are paid back, and all sorts of issues you need to know but otherwise wouldn't think of. This book also includes info on contracts, actor and location releases, and music permissions.

Granted, this doesn't include a lot of boiler plate. But Mark Litwak has books for that. However, this book bests Litwak in the realm of detail and why certain provisions really matter. This book empowers the filmmaker to understand business and contracts, what to ask for, what to avoid, and so much more. This is a critical book to own. Particularly if you're broke. So get it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
I read this book, and it totaly helped me! I started my film, and learned so much from this book.

The author must be some sort of g-d! He anwered nearly everyone of my questions. It actually changed the way i've been shooting.

Thanks! If only you'll write some more books!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource

Product Description
The bestselling business classic that Raytheon CEO
William Swanson made famous.

Every once in awhile, there is a book with a message so timeless, so universal, that it transcends generations. The Unwritten Laws of Business is such a book. Originally published over 60 years ago as The Unwritten Laws of Engineering, it has sold over 100,000 copies, despite the fact that it has never been available before to general readers. Fully revised for business readers today, here are but a few of the gems you’ll find in this little-known business classic:

If you take care of your present job well, the future will take care of itself.
The individual who says nothing is usually credited with having nothing to say.
Whenever you are performing someone else’s function, you are probably neglecting your own.
Martyrdom only rarely makes heroes, and in the business world, such heroes and martyrs often find themselves unemployed.

Refreshingly free ofthe latest business fads and jargon, this is a book that is wise and insightful, capturing and distilling the timeless truths and principles that underlie management and business the world over.

The little book with the big history.

In the summer of 2005, Business 2.0 published a cover story on Raytheon CEO William Swanson’s self-published pamphlet, Swanson’s Unwritten Rules of Management. Lauded by such chief executives as Jack Welch and Warren Buffett, the booklet became
a quiet phenomenon.

As it turned out, much of Swanson’s book drew from a classic of business literature that has been in print for more than sixty years. Now, in a new edition revised and updated for business readers today, we are reissuing the 1944 classic that inspired a number of Swanson’s “rules”: The Unwritten Laws of Business. Filled with sage advice and written in a spare, engaging style, The Unwritten Laws of Business offers insights on working with others, reporting to a boss, organizing a project, running a meeting, advancing your career, and more. Here’s just a sprinkling of the old-fashioned, yet surprisingly relevant, wisdom you’ll find in these pages:

If you have no intention of listening to, considering, and perhaps using, someone’s opinion, don’t ask for it.
Count any meeting a failure that does not end up with a definite understanding as to what’s going to be done, who’s going to do it, and when.
The common belief that everyone can do anything if they just try hard enough is a formula for inefficiency at best and for complete failure at worst.
It is natural enough to “look out for Number One first,” but when you do, your associates will be noticeably disinclined to look out for you.

Whether you’re a corporate neophyte or seasoned manager, this charming book reveals everything you need to know about the “unwritten” laws of business. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a compact business rules bible for all managers.
i have written a lot of books about management, strategy, and all that.
but this small book is, by far, the best of all.
recommended for everyone that has to do anything with management. period!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read
A Must-read book for folks who are new to the Big and Bad Corporate World. It teaches you a lot of things which no one would teach you. By the time experience teaches you these things it would be too late. So if you want to get ahead, grab this book, read it word-by-word and follow its sayings till you are in business.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good resume of many business books
Sound advices on management, ethics, leadership, communication, coordination, etc, that are insipred from best practices. Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every College Graduate Should Buy This Book
I have been in business for over a decade and I live and breathe by many of the principles discussed in this book.I discovered these directives on my own through trial and error (mostly error) and from my numerous mentors.I certainly would have been better off if I had been exposed to this book as a graduate. The directives are quite simple but without them laid out in such simple terms and put into context most people would completely miss them.I will be purchasing this book for my kids their senior year of college.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Important Little Book
The book has a unique charm to it that will prompt many readers to revisit, reread and highlight sections throughout their careers.

The chief obstacles to career success are personal and administrative in nature with problems arising from the violation of the unwritten laws of professional conduct rather than errors relating directly to work. That was W.J. King's observation in 1944 and he expanded on that observation in a series of three articles for "Mechanical Engineering". That series of articles was published as a book The Unwritten Laws of Engineering. For some sixty years, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers published this book to an audience of mechanical engineers. The book was rescued from general obscurity by William H. Swanson, Raytheon's Chief Executive Officer.Swanson referenced this book in his famous pamphlet on corporate management. Effective career guidance has no expiration date and this book has been updated, retitled and published in the popular business press version.

The Unwritten Laws of Engineering became an underground classic and with more than 100,000 copies published over sixty years. This book was often given to new engineers at the beginning of their careers as helpful professional guidance. This "little big book" is straight forward in its approach and succinct in its guidance. This book of less than 110 pages is subdivided into three sections - "What the beginner needs to learn at once", "Relating chiefly to managers" and "Professional and personal considerations".What is affirming is that so many of these principles and laws outlined in 1944 for mechanical engineers remain true and pungent today for professionals.

Today's business literature is replete with list-driven works that will, reputedly, effectively address problems as varied as strategic planning to the effective use of e-mail.The "flavor of the month" approach has dominated much of the popular business literature as a whole. What is remarkable about the The Unwritten Laws of Business is that this small book may actually be read instead of just being prominently displayed on office bookshelves. The principles outlined in this work are certainly not new or especially novel to the experienced manager, for example:

· If you have no intention of listening to, considering, and perhaps using someone's opinion don't ask for it.
· The common belief that everyone can do anything if they just try hard enough is a formula for inefficiency at best and for complete failure at worst.
· Never miss a chance to commend or reward subordinates for a job well done.

Even in our era, that is better known for its regulatory oversight and litigation, these principles and "unwritten laws" still ring true and clear. These laws are time tested and proven guides to professional and administrative behavior in large and small, public, private and non-profit organizations.Individual career success is situationally dependent and is often a complex undertaking; however, the application of these laws and principles will most certainly reduce both the frequency and magnitude of crisis in the early years of a professional career.

The book does earn its label as a little big book.It is an interesting and useful guide, although by design not a comprehensive guide to career success. It is a useful book for both the seasoned employee and the novice, alike and is a welcome addition to any professional's library.

Product Description
Managers at all levels are constantly challenged to do more with fewer employees, to motivate diverse groups of people, and to face up to tough people problems in their workforces. An important key to managers' success is accomplishing these goals while protecting themselves and their companies from legal liability. Yet some in management tend to blame legal requirements for hindering progress toward solving problems. U.S. law, however, provides managers with broad discretion in many employment situations and in most cases helps ensure that managers perform their essential functions in a way that is fundamentally fair while still supporting company goals.
A Manager's Guide to Employment Law will help managers make day-to-day decisions on how best to manage their employees and handle issues of legal liability. Expert author Dana Muir identifies the subtle and unnecessary mistakes managers make that cause legal headaches and shows how becoming familiar with basic principles of employment law will enable them to develop an internal compass to help make the right decisions. Each chapter focuses on legal concepts of broad application in today's workplace, providing real examples of problems managers face and offering strategies for addressing those problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars great introduction and reference
I was brand new to an upper level administration job. Immediately, there were personnel issues I never had to deal with before, leaving me lost. After reading this book, however, I feel much more comfortable with employment law. This book is an excellent introduction and one I still use as a reference. It may be too basic for employment lawyers and seasoned HR directors, but for everyone else I think it is perfect. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy It!!!
I run a small business and need guidance setting credit polices and collecting from my customers.I was interested in the "how to do it", not a bunch of legal talk.Well, true to the Dummies reputation, this book delivers exactly what I was looking for: VERY specific suggestions, including the forms with the proper language, to get my credit department off the ground.A few years ago I didn't worry about credit and collections, now...well, it has become a major concern.Customers are using any excuse not to pay...I have to have everything done "by the book".Buy this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK IS A GREAT TOOL
I HAVE BEEN A DEBT COLLECTOR FOR OVER FOUR DECADES AND A COLLECTION AGENCT OWNER FOR 41 YEARS.

I DID NOT LEARN HOW TO COLLECT A DEBT FROM "CREDIT & COLLECTION FOR DUMMIES" BUT I DID DISCOVER THAT I COULD USE THIS BOOK AS A CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SALES TOOL.
AS AN AGENCY OWNER I HAVE TRIED TO EDUCATE MY CREDITOR CLIENTS ON HOW TO PROPERLY HANDLE THEIR RECEIVABLES. BY DOING THIS I GAIN NEW CLIENTS AND RETAIN CLIENT LOYALTY.

"CREDIT & COLLECTIONS KITS FOR DUMMIES" HAS BECOME A MUST READ BOOK FOR MY SALES STAFF AND ANYONE WORKING FOR ME THAT IS IN CONTACT WITH CREDITORS. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE THAT IS INVOLVED WITH A COMPANIES ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE DEPARTMENT.

2-0 out of 5 stars Credit & Collections Kit for Dummies
Credit and receivable management represents far more than selling to a customer and focusing on how to get paid if that customer defaults. This publication, while it touches on the risk and administartion side of receivable management, places an emphasis on the collection function. Unfortunately collections are only a small part of the overall receivable management process. It is too bad that most publications on credit and collections miss the point that credit and receivable mangement represents more than a back office operation that spends its days dialing for dollars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource!
I needed a refresher to make sure I'm running my credit department the right way. This book has it all, from credit scoring, making good documents, demanding money in writing and by phone, and even "getting tough" if customers still don't pay.It is easy to understand and follow the directions because the authors have taken the time to lay it all out, including scripts and forms.Good stuff.

3-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive first stop for nonprofit management issues
If you have a management issue that needs attention in your nonprofit organization, make this book your first stop.It covers a multitude of relevant nonprofit management topics, including HR, fundraising, finance, IT, etc.

I say FIRST stop, however, because the book is probably notgoing to provide you with detailed enough information. Some topics, likeunrelated business income, are treated quite exhaustively.Others, likethe chapters on accounting and on how to solve a financial problem in anonprofit organization, were pretty light.(In the latter case, most ofthe chapter is spent on cutting expenses, while the ultimatesolution--increasing revenues--got only a page.)Each chapter, however, has a bibliography at the end which will direct you to further resources. This was the main value of the book for me.

My advice: good reference, but check this tome out of the library.

3-0 out of 5 stars Covers just about every conceivable topic of management
When the IRS recently took the position that special events can sometimes be taxed - for example, if an event takes six months or longer to create - U.S. fund development professionals and nonprofit managers began to ask, "Are our events going to have a problem"? and "What is the rationale for such a tax"? and "Where do I go for more information on this topic"?  If your development office had a copy of the just-published work, The Nonprofit Handbook: Management (Second Edition), you'd find your answer right there, in chapter 27, "Unrelated Business Income."  This encyclopedic volume on just about every conceivable topic on the subject of the management of nonprofit organizations is a well-thought-out collection of articles by many of the best experts on the various aspects of nonprofit management.  Indeed, its chief strength is that it covers so much ground -- covering strategic planning, human resources, communication, fund raising, information management, accounting, finance, and legal issues.  Tracy Connors, the book's editor, has done a good job in selecting the experts who have contributed articles.  Attorney Bruce Hopkins, for example, is perhaps the best known author of books and articles on the law of tax exempt organizations.  He has contributed a useful chapter on that subject in this volume.  (We'll be reviewing his book, Law of Tax-Exempt Organizations, in the future.)  In covering so much ground, the handbook at times leaves the reader wanting to delve deeper.  That was anticipated, it seems: Each chapter provides a "suggested reading" list, making the work a good launchpad for deeper study, if needed.  The Nonprofit Handbook:  Management is a valuable resource for anyone in a nonprofit organization responsible for strategic and operational management decisions.  That would include fund development officers in universities, health care organizations, arts organizations, cause-oriented nonprofits, and so forth.  It is also invaluable to nonprofit CEOs, COOs, CFOs, VPs, board members, human resources directors, and so forth.  ... Product Description
The original edition of this book, long out of print, was published almost 30 years ago. The decades since then have brought enormous changes to the business side of moviemaking, requiring that this new edition be totally rewritten. This is, then, a brand new book and one that has been most eagerly awaited. In it, three experts in entertainment law carefully explain the complex procedures involved in bringing film to the screen, from acquiring rights and financing, to negotiating workable agreements with artists and craftspeople, to distributing and exhibiting the finished motion picture. Clear, concise and–above all–authoritative, this book cuts a pathway through a jungle and is an essential reference for the teacher of film, the independent producer, the would-be filmmaker, and anyone interested in the business of making movies. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensively... OUTDATED
Be warned about this book. Not only is it outdated, a huge portion of the book does not apply to most independent producers. For example, it dabbles in legal talk about financing and distribution contracts and dealings with studios and banks -- two that are almost never going to happen for most people who are buying this book. It just gives out information without considering it's functionality in the independent market. Don't buy this book. Get a more efficient and realistic book about the independent production process. It just explains and explains without giving any examples or sample contracts. What a waste of money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good First Book for Entertainment Law
Great source for beginners and no law students in the basic aspects and concepts of law and regulations in the entertainment industry.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not ground breaking
Although this book is not ground breaking, it gives a filmmaker/producer a good understanding of how to go about in the business of film.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must for first time producers
Being a first-time independent producer I had little knowledge of all the legal elements involved in movie deal making.I must say that even though at first this book was a little difficult to understand, given the nature of some legal terms used, it has been essential to get a clear picture of everything that must be covered to ensure proper production, financing and distribution of any film project.

The book doesn't go into detailed forms or explanations of complex contracts. It does, however, highlight the most important points of views on both sides of the negotiating table so you're better prepared when taking part either one.Furthermore, there are basic rules of thumb that will allow you to understand key business aspects and demand more from your legal advisors when making contracts for the entire production process (from development through distribution).

I went on to buy "The Independent Film Producer's Survival Guide" to analyze specific forms and contracts and other legal elements in further detail, but this book is definitely the starting point!!

4-0 out of 5 stars A realisticly insightful literaturefor producing movies
There are so many film programs in the country but hardly any that provide the insight into the finance and legalities of the industry. Being a fresh graduate, I my self faced this problem. This book however, is a problem solver. Baumgarten's, Farber's and Fleischer's approach towards the business aspects of filmmaking is an insightful one and it provides vital information, especially for those who are just about to get their feet wet. I highly recommend this book to all the film students and especially to those who are concentrating in producing and directing. ... Read more

Product Description
Why are some people more successful in business? Why do some businesses flourish where others fail? Renowned business speaker and author, Brian Tracy has discovered the answers to these puzzling questions. In The 100 Absolutely Unbreakable Laws of Business Success Tracy draws on his thirty years’ experience to present a set of universal laws that lie behind the success of business people everywhere, in every kind of enterprise, large and small. Tracy breaks the 100 laws down into nine categories: Life, Success, Business, Leadership, Money, Economics, Selling, Negotiating, and Time Management. Drawing on a lifetime of observation, investigation, and experience, Tracy identifies and defines each law—such as the Law of Cause and Effect and the Law of Increasing Returns—and reveals its source, illustrates how it functions through real-life examples, and shows how to apply it through specific exercises that everyone can use to begin the journey toward greater business success. Easy to read, easy to understand, and easy to apply, The 100 Absolutely Unbreakable Laws of Business Success offers a straightforward, eye-opening, life-affirming approach to how the world of business really works.Amazon.com Review
The scrappy spirit of Horatio Alger is alive and well in success guru Brian Tracy. He may not be a household name yet like his colleagues Warren Bennis and Anthony Robbins, but (his publisher tells us) he still lectures hundreds of thousands annually on personal and professional development, including top cats at IBM and Arthur Andersen. This, his latest of some 10 books (including the "bestseller" Maximum Achievement), is exactly what its title suggests--100 maxims and MOs everyone must learn and live by to make it big, broken down into the laws of Life, Success, Business, Leadership, Money, Selling, Negotiating, and Time Management. Each law is followed up by anecdotes and quotes through history, plus bulleted points on "How You Can Apply This Law Immediately," which provide welcome structure and practicality.

In fact, Tracy's 100 laws are so cheerily practical, such an astoundingly uncomplicated affirmation of good old American bootstrap self-determinism, they recall the days when Alger's fictional bootblacks and newsboys finally made it big through pluck, elbow grease, and wide-grinning high hopes alone. (And, consciously or not, Tracy does seem to reside in a boys' world: among the countless men of means he cites here--from Emerson, Twain, and Lincoln to Henry Ford, Sam Walton, and, uh, Jesus Christ--this reviewer counted a whopping two women.) At times, Tracy's laws read like a Rotarian's shameless plug for capitalism ("The free market is the most efficient way for millions of people to have their needs met at the lowest possible cost"), an expression of Nietzschean contempt ("People are poor because they have not yet decided to become rich"), or, in a few instances, the kind of declaration that sets survivors of totalitarian regimes all a-tremble ("Power gravitates to the person who can use it most effectively to get the desired results"--yikes!).

That said, Tracy's pronouncements are more than usually correct; an unfailing boost to the indecisive, underconfident, or fatalistic soul ("You are completely responsible for everything you are and for everything you become and achieve"); and even occasionally astute, especially in matters of sales ("Top money-earners in sales are viewed as consultants, helpers, counselors, and advisors to their customers, not as salespeople"), where he had his own humble beginnings. You won't find anything especially new in Tracy's 100 Absolutely Unbreakable Laws, so think of it as all the best advice for improvement of your self, career, and business you'll ever read or hear, packed into one turbocharged go-getter's almanac. At the book's start, Tracy promises us that just by writing down 10 of our goals in the first-person present tense ("I actually AM too rich and too thin!"), eight will have come true in a year's time. I ask you: Did even your own mother ever have that much faith in you? --Timothy Murphy ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Much practical wisdom embedded within much hype
Little or nothing in this book on business success hasn't been said by many others in past decades and centuries, but Brian Tracy is an effective communicator and motivator, hence his own success. Most of Tracy's advice is indeed sound, and he thus shows plenty of insight into human nature and social functioning. No one can read this book without learning something useful, or at least being usefully reminded of things they already know but need to put into action more.

But on the negative side, Tracy oversimplifies and oversells in many ways. For example, his definition of success narrowly focuses on business success, especially financial success, and thus doesn't acknowledge the value of balance in life.If someone chooses to spend less time at work and more time with their children, that's not necessarily wrong (many would say it's right). Also, the very claim that there are "absolutely unbreakable laws" of business success is silly. There may be laws of physics, but not laws of business success. If Tracy could tone down the hype, he would admit that his "laws" are just heuristics which have proven to often foster success, but to varying extents in varying situations, and never with any guarantees.Sorry, someone in dire circumstances in Somalia or Iraq isn't automatically going to transform their situation simply by following Tracy's "laws."Circumstances (and luck) do matter.

The bottom line is that people who seek the kind of success Tracy describes will surely benefit from this book, but there's also a need to recognize that Tracy's framework is quite narrow and limited.Set goals, take action, be disciplined, etc., but also take time to smell the roses and spend quality time with people you care about.

5-0 out of 5 stars Should be required for undergrad / grad business programs
I read this book years ago and it still sticks with me today. The laws apply greatly to those working in the workplace under the corporate umbrella. I remember reading this book, thinking about the comments and understanding why I was accelling in some areas and not on others.

Really great book that has timeless advice and a great tone. Easy to read as the book is broken down into those easy to read couple of page lessons.

It should be required reading for any undergrad / graduate business program.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kick your life up a notch,... or two.
Maybe I won't go so far as to say this is the best business book I've ever read, but I completely filled up a spiral notebook with notes. In fact, I had to use about 10 pages of another spiral notebook. I think I took more notes from Brian Tracy's 100 ABSOLUTELY UNBREAKABLE LAWS OF BUSINESS SUCCESS than from any other book I have ever read, and I've read an awful lot of books.

One thing I really want to point out is that this book is not just about business. This book is about life. In fact, the first chapter is about the Laws of Life. It contains five subchapters, but really, all of the other seven chapters and ninety-three sub chapters have to do with both business and life. These laws apply to marriage, school, politics, you name it. For instance, in chapter two we find the Law of Responsibility. You will see that it applies to every aspect of life in some way. The entirety of chapter seven contains fifteen laws of negotiating that will likely save enough on your next vehicle purchase to pay for a copy of this book for every member of your family!

I could go on and on. I just can't think of a part of this book that isn't applicable to every part of life in some way. What I'm saying is, this isn't just a business book! This is a book that will make you a better person, and isn't that really what life is all about?

The book is exceptionally well written. There's not a lot of razzle-dazzle, just cold hard stuff you can use to propel your life to a higher level. I recommend a lot of books, but only a select few make it onto my "must read" list. This is certainly one of those must reads. This book gets my highest recommendation.

5-0 out of 5 stars I've been a student of Brian Tracy for over a decade, and
his ability to distill life-altering concepts into digestable insights is among the very best. There are hundreds of motivational speakers and writers, but Tracy is one of the most efficient at conveying his message in an understandable format.
The 100 Unbreakable Laws of Business Success presents time-tested truths in an easy-to-read style. Many of these concepts are not Tracy's.He merely introduces fundamental principles developed by other great thinkers and dishes them up in comprehensible chunks. It's like getting the philisophies of Earl Nightengale, Ben Franklin, and other giants compressed into one actionable book.
If one could simply maintain the discipline to read and meditate on one of these laws every week, the benefits would begin to manifest immediately, and after two years, the reader would be astonished at the results.

5-0 out of 5 stars A collection of timeless principles explained well
"The 100 Absolutely Unbreakable Laws of Business Success" is a collection of principles that range from the popular law of attraction, that has become even more popular through the book "The Secret" and "Ask and it is Given", to the law of compensation which Emerson wrote about brilliantly in his essay titled "Compensation".Readers will find many examples like these of books that cover one of the "laws" from this book more extensively and prior to this book. However, the brilliance of this book is its ability to bring so many of these principles into one volume that is easy to read and explained well.Tracy has put together a winning book that will give you a guideline of the key principles for business success. I found value in almost every page of this book. I have learned a lot from Tracy's books, this is definitively an achievement enhancer.Enjoy! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
    Much below Nolo's usual standards.

This book manages to describe the mechanics of a plan while avoiding all of the underlying business thinking.

Starting and running a business isn't about the document - it's about the thinking and planning and decision-making captured in that document. This book provides no guidance to the novice on how to really think about starting a business, and is a gross simplification of the process.

The accompanying spreadsheets and forms also disappoint, in selection (three very limited sample plans), content, and layout. At least this part would have been so easy to do better. Not a lot of effort went in to this book

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent if you lack a business class
This is a great book. I had purchased this book with others, at a time before I re-enrolled in class for business. The old MIT book, business plans that make $$$ should be a supplement when purchasing this book. You want to write your plan yourself and avoid pre-generated forms. This will at least help you until you take a few entrepreneurial classes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book and covers many important areas.
This was one of the first business books I've read (2nd to be specific) and this was one of the most helpful. The only complaint I have which led me to rate this 4 stars and not 5 is because some chapters just hurl information at you too quickly. The law chapter I had to re-read because of all the important info it contained. Besides that everything was great, and even is helpful to those who know the basics. About 9 out of 10 businesses fail within the first 5 years (i think that's the statistic) but if all those people read this book I bet that figure would be dramatically altered. If you want to learn to start a business especially if it's from home this book is for you.
