An ethnic group refers to a population that shares common cultural characteristics, such as language, religion and diet. Therefore, the concept of ethnicity relies more on a shared cultural definition of identity than solely on biological similarity. ETHNIC GROUPS IN CANADA Ethnicity research is particularly relevant in a country such as Canada, given that non-Canadian-born individuals constitute 17.4% of the Canadian population (2). The sources of immigration to Canada have changed markedly during the past century, and in 1996 people of European origin accounted for 47% of the total immigrant population. Traditionally, European-born immigrants came from the United Kingdom, Germany or Italy, whereas now the majority come from Eastern European countries. The fastest growing group of new immigrants in Canada is from Asia (31% in 1996), and nearly a quarter of all recent immigrants are from China and India. Liodakis' Ph.D. dissertation was a quantitative analysis of the class, gender and nativity earnings differentials within selected ethnic and "visible" groups in Canada, using 1996 Canadian Census data . His research has revealed that the class and gender earnings differentials within ethnic groups, are greater than the differentials among them, when ethnic groups are conceptualized as homogeneous, monolithic and static entities (as done by the ethnic perspective). His research calls for a more innovative examination of social inequality in Canada, the re-conceptualization of ethnicity and a more critical analysis of its interconnections with class and gender. He is also interested in the educational attainment class and gender differentials within foreign-born and native-born members of ethnic groups.

Earlier in his trip, he laid a wreath at a new memorial to the 1930s famine-genocide in Ukraine. The Soviet dictatorship of Joseph Stalin withheld grain and food to starve Ukrainian farmers. More than seven million people died. But Chrétien declined an offer to tour the former concentration camps in that country, where millions were tortured and killed.

There has been a lot of work to do as this area was pastureland for the last twenty years. The Japanese section includes vegetables, flowers: Arcticum lappa Burdock Root In Japanese gardening the raised beds are deeply mounded, sometimes a foot high. The soil is loose and friable and never walked on. This is very important for root crops. "three sisters" technique The Latin group has planted in a much larger area and have incorporated ideas from the Japanese group such as planting more intensively and using raised beds. For the future Arzeena would like to see more ethnic groups involved in the project. Gardening seems to be a great link between people.
