An historical marker unveiled Friday, September 20, commemorating the pioneering school founded in 1910 on the grounds of what is now Temple University Ambler, will soon find its permanent home on the well-traveled road. The dedication event gave more than 150 people their first glimpse of the marker, presented to the University by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, and brought back about 20 alums of the Pennsylvania School of Horticulture for Women (PSHW) from as far away as California and New Mexico and as far back as the Class of 1927. The program held in the Formal Gardens, which included the grand opening of the Landscape Arboretum of Temple University Ambler, also welcomed leaders in the green industry such as Pennsylvania Horticultural Society President Jane G. Pepper and her predecessor Ernesta Ballard, and state and national government leaders such as Congressman Joseph Hoeffel, State Senator Stewart Greenleaf, and State Representative Eugene McGill. Driving down Meetinghouse Road brings back so many memories, said keynote speaker Jane Pepper, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society president since 1981 and a Temple alumna.
