International Student Profile - Lena Oishi I have taken numerous writing subjects, such as 'writing journalism' and 'Creativewriting', all of classes, lectures, and the odd 'M C Nights' at the pub. http://www.arts.unimelb.edu.au/international/profiles/l_oishi.html
Extractions: Enriched Major ... Growing up, I've constantly saturated my life with film, music, television, books, and lately, the Internet ..." "... In high school, I considered going into courses like 'visual arts', 'sound engineering', and 'film studies', as a way of prying my way into the media industry. Yet these were merely naive dreams of a high school kid. Frankly, I was clueless about the industry. I didn't even know the specific field of media I wanted to move into. I didn't even know what those fields were! Then, I found the Media and Communications course at Melbourne University. I was drawn to the wide range of subjects offered - from journalistic writing to marketing communications. I was also attracted to the prospect of an internship: a chance to attain 'hands-on' experience in an otherwise theoretically based course. Needless to say, I was sold. Two years on, I am deeply immersed in my university life as a Media and Communications student. As expected, the course turns out to be ideal for people like me, who want to study the media industry as a whole. I found that the introductory subjects in first year (i.e. Professional Writing, Introduction to Media and Communications) were an excellent way to get my feet wet. The subject - 'Professional Writing' especially opened my eyes to print and journalism; a field that I had disregarded before then because I hated writing... or so I thought. Since then, I have taken numerous writing subjects, such as 'Writing Journalism' and 'Creative Writing', all of which I've enjoyed immensely.

Extractions: Current Students Former Students Graduate Recruiters Every occupation can be defined in terms of a range of skills and abilities. Some of these will be intellectual skills, such as a good memory, specialist knowledge, numeracy or the ability to write clearly and precisely. Other skills will be more concerned with how you interact with other people, such as face-to-face communication, supervision, persuasion, or working in a team. Selectors need to be convinced that you have the relevant abilities and skills required for a particular occupation. Initially they will look on your application form for evidence of these abilities, and then at a later stage question you more closely during interview. The terms relevance and evidence are key words in the application process. You first need to determine the actual skills required in a given occupation, and then consider which of your past experiences would best demonstrate that you already have these abilities, or the potential to develop them further.
