Contents Rules For Presentations It is also very important to remember that you are talking to people , i.e. an audience. Think about your audience. For example, remember that not everyone's first language is English. Your audience may also contain people who have poor hearing, poor eye-sight, and people who are colour-blind. Also think about the background knowledge of your audience. Sometimes you will be speaking to a specialist audience, in which case it may be forgivable and even preferable to use jargon, acronyms etc. Other times you might be talking to a general audience such as a community group. In these circumstances think particularly carefully about what you are saying and how you are saying it. It is unforgivable (and pointless) to give a talk full of undefined acronyms if the people you are talking to are outside the topic area. Always explain your graphs and tables. While their content and meaning may be quite clear to you after having created them and looked at them for the past x years, the same will not be true of most people in your audience.
