To find out the minimum score for the school you are interested in, check with the school' s website, their current catalog, or admissions office. What are the differences between SAT and ACT? SAT attempts to measure your aptitude and ability. It reports a verbal and math score, which are then added together to form a composite score. The SAT verbal and math scores range from to 800, so the composite score ranges from 0-1600. For example, you might have a verbal score of 580 and a math score of 430 for a composite score of 1010. The national average for composite score is approximately 1020. ACT attempts to measure specific knowledge in the four areas of English, math, science, and reading. It reports those four scores and an average score of those scores to form a composite score. Each of the four scores, as well as the composite score, can range from 1 to 36. Currently, the composite score of 21 is the national average.
