Circulation The Mathematics Library, consisting of the Frankel and Goldenberg Libraries, is one of five regional (faculty) libraries at the Weizmann Institute. It is located in the Zyskind Building, opposite San Martin and the Technical Department. The book collection is located in the 3-floor building (Frankel Mathematics Library). On the Ground Floor is the librarian's office, the New Books shelf, Permanent Reserve books, which consist of heavily used material located in locked bookcases, and Course Reserve books, also in locked bookcases located below the windows (consult the librarian for their use). Other special collections on the Ground Floor include Mathematical Tables, Reference Books, Collected Works , and the continuation of "Older Journals" from the first floor. The First Floor (one floor above the Ground Floor), primarily devoted to the area of Computer Science , includes books, journals, and some old technical reports in that field. Older journals are also kept here.

Nichols Graduate School of Library and Information Science , University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, IL Computing Department , Lancaster University, UK Abstract AIMS The Case for Interfaces and Collaboration It is a truism within user interface design that for the user the interface IS the system. The design of interfaces to computer systems has grown in importance along with the remarkable progress in the manufacture of increasingly powerful but cheaper computer hardware. The falling cost of hardware leads to the potential for a wider degree of access to computer systems and consequently a more divergent user base. Within the context of libraries, we shall see that forms of collaboration take many forms, including most obviously the help or reference desk. In this review we will consider a range of forms of collaborative working and technologies that might be employed to improve the effectiveness of these forms. Note that we see this as strongly related to the aims of the designers of interfaces, who are in effect pursuing a similar goal. We survey research undertaken in CSCW and related areas that we believe can serve as a useful starting point for someone considering the implementation of collaborative technologies in a information retrieval and usage context (such as a library) or someone considering research in the area. Although a number of very good survey articles on CSCW were published in the early 1990s, we are not aware of any recent ones and so in part this review also attempts to fulfil that role. As there is a substantial body of work in the field, our selection of papers has to be somewhat restrictive (despite this, it is still substantial). Therefore our survey necessarily provides only a cursory overview of some topics. We have chosen papers that themselves contain thorough reviews of a subtopic of CSCW, and those that we believe are illustrative of an approach and are particularly accessible to a reader from outside the discipline.
