Search EFA Site New South Wales On 9 December 2002, the NSW Government stated that the Internet censorship laws "will be neither commenced nor repealed" until the current review of the Commonwealth Internet censorship legislation has been completed and the findings considered. On 6 June 2002, the NSW Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Issues issued a report recommending that the NSW Government not proceed with its proposed Internet censorship law. (Among other things, the proposed law would criminalise making available content unsuitable for minors online, even if the content is only made available to adults.) The Committee's report and recommendations are the outcome of a six month inquiry undertaken at the request of the NSW Attorney General . The Committee's report is commendable. It is well-researched and written and it is evident the Committee members and staff spent a considerable amount of time and effort considering the policy objectives, the nature of the Internet and relevant issues. Unlike other Australian Parliamentary Committees that have inquired into Internet censorship, this Committee obviously "gets it"; they understand that the Internet is not like television and is not a movie. EFA hopes the NSW Government will accept and support the recommendations of the Committee, which consists of a majority of members from the political party in Government (ALP). The English-speaking nations share the English language, the common law, and male circumcision as part of their history and culture since the late 19th century. This page incorporates relevant legal reference material from the several English-speaking nations. Some definitions: A "botched" circumcision is one that is poorly done and has obvious unexpected results. "Wrongful circumcision" is circumcision done without valid informed consent. Botched circumcision and wrongful circumcision constitute malpractice. Prior to 1984, circumcision law was included under malpractice law: Doctors who "botched" circumcisions could only be sued for failing to adhere to the "standard of care." There were, however, a number of circumcision malpractice cases that succeeded on these grounds. Starting in 1984, academics began to apply general principles of health care law and medical ethics to examine the legality of male circumcision. Children are legally regarded as

Nicolson*, Ph.D. Professor, Department of Internal Medicine and Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, The University of Texas Medical School at Houston and *President, The Rhodon Foundation for Biomedical Research, Kingwood, Texas As reported previously in Criminal Politics (January and March 1995), large numbers of our soldiers that served in the Persian Gulf region in Operation Desert Storm (ODS) returned to the U.S. in 1991 and 6-12 months later presented with a variety of unusual chronic medical signs and symptoms that have been difficult to diagnose but have been collectively called Gulf War Syndrome (GWS) or Gulf War Illness. Although most military, Veterans' Administration and civilian physicians agree that these Gulf War veterans have medical problems, they have been unable to diagnose the exact syndrome. For the last several years the U.S. Government, and in particular, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, Dr. Steven Joseph, claimed that veterans who served in the Gulf War do not have unusual medical problems and they are no more sick than American civilians. That these soldiers and in many cases their immediate family members do have unusual medical conditions was carefully shown in a case control study performed by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

Extractions: mental health professionals? One of the hurdles in finding a therapist is wading through the various kinds of mental health professionals. Which ones give drugs? Are some better trained than others? The main answer is "it depends".The individual therapist is always more important than their degree, certification, licensure or other qualification. Most of the professional's expertise will come as they specialize their continuing education and experience. Professionals in the field know the little quirks or distinctives between the various helping professions, but we also recognize that those differences blur when it comes to looking at individual therapists. It's most important that you get a trusted referral and question the professional you are considering until you are comfortable with them. Both of those concerns are legitimate, and both are closely related to alcohol and other drugs, whether used by the student or by their fellow students. So parents deserve to know what schools are doing to curb alcohol and other drug use, and college administrators must be prepared to answer tough questions about their alcohol and other drug prevention policies and programs.
