Charney, a principal at PricewaterhouseCoopers, was previously in charge of the Justice Departments Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section; Miller is president of the Information Technology Association of America. The column cites examples of malicious hackers saying they didn't consider their actions to be wrong. Charney and Miller conclude that, if the next generation of computer users are to develop proper ideas about personal responsibility, educators, parents and professionals will have to extend conventional teaching to the computer arena. "If we are going to teach our children not to cheat on tests at school, those same lessons must be applied to sharing homework online...breaking into a Web site is no more acceptable than breaking into your neighbors house," they add. http://www.fcw.com/civic/articles/2000/dec/civ-first-12-00.asp
