Product Description
In one of the most hotly anticipated sequels in memory,J.K. Rowling takes up where she left with Harry's second year at theHogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Old friends and newtorments abound, including a spirit named Moaning Myrtle who hauntsthe girl's bathroom, an outrageously conceited professor, GilderoyLockheart, and a mysterious force that turns Hogwarts students tostone.Amazon.com Review
It's hard to fall in love with an earnest, appealing young hero likeHarry Potter and then to watch helplessly as he steps into terrible danger! And in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, themuch anticipated sequel to the award-winning Harry Potter and the Sorcerer'sStone, he is in terrible danger indeed. As if it's not bad enough thatafter a long summer with the horrid Dursleys he is thwarted in his attemptsto hop the train to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to beginhis second year. But when his only transportation option is a magical flyingcar, it is just his luck to crash into a valuable (but clearly vexed)Whomping Willow. Still, all this seems like a day in the park compared towhat happens that fall within the haunted halls of Hogwarts.

Chilling, malevolent voices whisper from the walls only to Harry, and itseems certain that his classmate Draco Malfoy is out to get him.Soon it's not just Harry who is worried about survival, as dreadful thingsbegin to happen at Hogwarts. The mysteriously gleaming, foot-high words onthe wall proclaim, "The Chamber of Secrets Has Been Opened. Enemies of theHeir, Beware." But what exactly does it mean? Harry, Hermione, and Ron doeverything that is wizardly possible--including risking their own lives--tosolve this 50-year-old, seemingly deadly mystery. This deliciouslysuspenseful novel is every bit as gripping, imaginative, and creepy as thefirst; familiar student concerns--fierce rivalry, blush-inducingcrushes, pedantic professors--seamlessly intertwine with the bizarre, horrific, fantastical, or just plain funny. Once again, Rowling writes witha combination of wit, whimsy, and a touch of the macabre that will leavereaders young and old desperate for the next installment. (Ages 9 andolder) --Karin Snelson ... Probably the last person in the world to start reading Harry Potter. I liked it a little better than the first one. It's kind of the same again. Harry has a bad time with the Dursleys. He goes to Hogwarts. Something happens. He solves the problem.

Es increible divertidisimo, y un libro adictivo, despues de leer este tienes que comprar el otro y asi con el otro y el otro hasta el ultimo libro. Me hubiera gustado que el final fuera diferente pero aun asi esta buenisimo.

It's really enjoyiable. I love that book is my favorite Harry Potter book. It is very funny and at the same time lovely. And the leanguage that the author used it's very very juvenile and refreshing. Also, for people who dosent speak english and for the ones who does but wanna read something refreshing in spansih it's amusing.

During his third year at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry Potter must confront the devious and dangerous wizard responsible for his parents' deaths.Amazon.com Review
For most children, summer vacation is something to look forward to. But not forour 13-year-old hero, who's forced to spend his summers with an aunt, uncle, andcousin who detest him. The third book in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potterseriescatapults into action when the young wizard "accidentally" causes theDursleys' dreadful visitor Aunt Marge to inflate like a monstrous balloonand drift up to the ceiling. Fearing punishment from Aunt Petunia and UncleVernon (and from officials at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardrywho strictly forbid students to cast spells in the nonmagic world ofMuggles), Harry lunges out into the darkness with his heavy trunk and hisowl Hedwig.

As it turns out, Harry isn't punished at all for his errant wizardry.Instead he is mysteriously rescued from his Muggle neighborhood and whiskedoff in a triple-decker, violently purple bus to spend the remaining weeksof summer in a friendly inn called the Leaky Cauldron. What Harry has to face ashe begins his third year at Hogwarts explains why the officials let him offeasily. It seems that Sirius Black--an escaped convict from the prison ofAzkaban--is on the loose. Not only that, but he's after Harry Potter. Butwhy? And why do the Dementors, the guards hired to protecthim, chill Harry's very heart when others are unaffected? Once again,Rowling has created a mystery that will have children and adults cheering, not to mention standing in line for her next book. Fortunately, there arefour more in the works. Harry potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is a great and widely known book in the famous Harry Potter series. This book has won numerous awards on all accounts of creativity to the creation of the characters. These books were written by J.K. Rowling. This is her third book in a series of seven.Hopefully, not her last.
The story starts of as Harry's third year at Hogwarts school of Magic, and for sure, the suspense is already built. Just before Harry's arrival, news spreads fast that the dangerous Dark wizard Sirius Black has escaped is coming after none other than Harry Potter himself. Or is he? Suspense begins to roll in the sea of emotions. Each character plays there part until the end. What is the mystery behind Sirius Black?

J.k. Rowling again surprises us again with another stunning book. Her writing style ensues a path to entertain and undermine all traditional writing styles. She shows great emotion and care in her writing! I hope she continues writing for a long time to come.
Here are some of J.K. Rowling's other books:
-Harry Potter and the Sorcerers stone
-Harry Potterand the Chamber of Secrets
-Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire...
And more! Have fun!

The book was missing slipcover.Book was listed as used in good shape. I would not have purchased it if I had known book was missing cover.Otherwise, book was in good shape and arrived within time

5-0 out of 5 stars Finest quality
This edition and its companion books carry the series from a popular book to a classic product. The Harry Potter series has matured into a finely produced, collectible, cherished edition for the ages. This edition is meticulously put together with the most durable binding of any edition, into books that will last for generations with normal care. The binding, stitching, and ribbon book mark are hallmarks of the most prized of books, and deservedly so.
I love the Harry Potter saga, and would enjoy it any edition. But, the Bloomsbury Special edition gives it the cachet of a true classic, which I hold it to be.This printing will, in a few years, amount to what a first illustruated printing of "Alice in Wonderland" amounts to.
This edition amounts to the first real production of the Harry Potter series in a truly lasting book, rather than the falling apart editions we have suffered with for so long. The Scholastic hardbound editions seem to hold up, but the paperback editions fall into loose pages.
HP is finally taken seriously enough to become a sturdy, well published, well bound series of books.

Product Description
We could tell you, but then we'd have to Obliviate your memory.Amazon.com Review
The long-awaited, eagerly anticipated, arguably over-hyped HarryPotter and the Half-Blood Prince has arrived, and the question onthe minds of kids, adults, fans, and skeptics alike is, "Is it worththe hype?" The answer, luckily, is simple: yep. A magnificentspectacle more than worth the price of admission, Harry Potter andthe Half-Blood Prince will blow you away. However, given that somuch has gone into protecting the secrets of the book (includingarmored trucks and injunctions), don't expect any spoilers in thisreview. It's much more fun not knowing what's coming--and in the caseof Rowling's delicious sixth book, you don't want to know. Just sittight, despite the earth-shattering revelations that will have yourhead in your hands as you hope the words will rearrange themselvesinto a different story. But take one warning to heart: do not openHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince until you have firstfound a secluded spot, safe from curious eyes, where you can tuck infor a good long read. Because once you start, you won't stop until youreach the very last page.

A darker book than any in the seriesthus far with a level of sophistication belying its genre, HarryPotter and the Half-Blood Prince moves the series into murkierwaters and marks the arrival of Rowling onto the adult literaryscene. While she has long been praised for her cleverness and wit, thestrength of Book 6 lies in her subtle development of key characters,as well as her carefully nuanced depiction of a community at war. InHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, no one and nothing issafe, including preconceived notions of good and evil and of right andwrong. With each book in her increasingly remarkable series, fans have nervously watched J.K. Rowling raise the stakes; gone arethe simple delights of butterbeer and enchanted candy, and days whenthe worst ailment could be cured by a bite of chocolate. A series thatbegan as a colorful lark full of magic and discovery has become a darkand deadly war zone. But this should not come as a shock to loyalreaders. Rowling readied fans with Harry Potter and theGoblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Orderof the Phoenix by killing off popular characters and engagingthe young students in battle. Still, there is an unexpected bleaknessfrom the start of Book 6 that casts a mean shadow over Quidditchgames, silly flirtations, and mountains of homework. Ready or not, thetremendous ending of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Princewill leave stunned fans wondering what great and terrible events awaitin Book 7 if this sinister darkness is meant to light theway. --Daphne Durham Visit the Harry PotterStore

Why We LoveHarry
Favorite Moments from theSeries
There are plenty of reasons to love Rowling's wildlypopular series--no doubt you have several dozen of your own. Our listfeatures favorite moments, characters, and artifacts from the firstfive books. Keep in mind that this list is by no means exhaustive(what we love about Harry could fill ten books!) and does not includeany of the spectacular revelatory moments that would spoil the booksfor those (few) who have not read them. Enjoy. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer'sStone
* Harry's first trip to the zoowith the Dursleys, when a boa constrictor winks at him.
* When theDursleys' house is suddenly besieged by letters for Harry fromHogwarts. Readers learn how much the Dursleys have been keeping fromHarry. Rowling does a wonderful job in displaying the lengths to whichUncle Vernon will go to deny that magic exists.
* Harry's firstvisit to Diagon Alley with Hagrid. Full of curiosities and rich withmagic and marvel, Harry's first trip includes a trip to Gringotts andOllivanders, where Harry gets his wand (holly and phoenix feather) anddiscovers yet another connection to He-Who-Must-No-Be-Named. Thismoment is the reader's first full introduction to Rowling's world ofwitchcraft and wizards.
* Harry's experience with the SortingHat.

Harry Potter andthe Chamber of Secrets
* The de-gnoming of theWeasleys' garden. Harry discovers that even wizards havechores--gnomes must be grabbed (ignoring angry protests "Gerroff me!Gerroff me!"), swung about (to make them too dizzy to come back), andtossed out of the garden--this delightful scene highlights Rowling'sclever and witty genius.
* Harry's first experience with a Howler, sent to Ron by his mother.
* The Dueling Club battle between Harryand Malfoy. Gilderoy Lockhart starts the Dueling Club to help studentspractice spells on each other, but he is not prepared for theintensity of the animosity between Harry and Draco. Since they arestill young, their minibattle is innocent enough, including ticklingand dancing charms.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
* Ron's attempt to use atelephone to call Harry at the Dursleys'.
* Harry's firstencounter with a Dementor on the train (and just about any otherencounter with Dementors). Harry's brush with the Dementors isterrifying and prepares Potter fans for a darker, scarier book.
*Harry, Ron, and Hermione's behavior in Professor Trelawney'sDivination class. Some of the best moments in Rowling's books occurwhen she reminds us that the wizards-in-training at Hogwarts are, after all, just children. Clearly, even at a school of witchcraft andwizardry, classes can be boring and seem pointless to children.
*The Boggart lesson in Professor Lupin's classroom.
* Harry, Ron,and Hermione's knock-down confrontation with Snape.

Harry Potter and the Goblet ofFire
* Hermione's disgust at thereception for the veela (Bulgarian National Team Mascots) at theQuidditch World Cup. Rowling's fourth book addresses issues aboutgrowing up--the dynamic between the boys and girls at Hogwarts startsto change. Nowhere is this more plain than the hilarious scene inwhich magical cheerleaders nearly convince Harry and Ron to jump fromthe stands to impress them.
* Viktor Krum's crush on Hermione--andRon's objection to it.
* Malfoy's "Potter Stinks" badge.
*Hermione's creation of S.P.E.W., the intolerant bigotry of the DeathEaters, and the danger of the Triwizard Tournament. Add in thechanging dynamics between girls and boys at Hogwarts, and suddenlyRowling's fourth book has a weight and seriousness not as present inearly books in the series. Candy and tickle spells are left behind asthe students tackle darker, more serious issues and take on largerresponsibilities, including the knowledge of illegal curses.

Harry Potter and the Order of thePhoenix

* Harry's outburst to hisfriends at No. 12 Grimmauld Place. A combination of frustration overbeing kept in the dark and fear that he will be expelled fuels much ofHarry's anger, and it all comes out at once, directly aimed at Ron andHermione. Rowling perfectly portrays Harry's frustration at being tooold to shirk responsibility, but too young to be accepted as part ofthe fight that he knows is coming.
* Harry's detention withProfessor Umbridge. Rowling shows her darker side, leading readers tobelieve that Hogwarts is no longer a safe haven for youngwizards. Dolores represents a bureaucratic tyrant capable of realevil, and Harry is forced to endure their private battle of willsalone.
* Harry and Cho's painfully awkward interactions. Rowlingclearly remembers what it was like to be a teenager.
* Harry'sOcclumency lessons with Snape.
* Dumbledore's confession toHarry.

A Few Words from Mary GrandPré

"When I illustrate a cover or a book, Idraw upon what the author tells me; that's how I see my responsibilityas an illustrator. J.K. Rowling is very descriptive in herwriting--she gives an illustrator a lot to work with. Each story ispacked full of rich visual descriptions of the atmosphere, the mood, the setting, and all the different creatures and people. She makes iteasy for me. 5-0 out of 5 stars Used book on CD
We bought this audio book to finish off our set of Harry Potter audio books. We are only half way through but so far there have been no problems with the CD's.The box shows a little wear but great price and we would just get it looking that way in a short time as they are used in the car.

5-0 out of 5 stars A real treasure
An addition to my special Bloomsbury first edition collection.I've wanted to read the UK editions to track language variations between the UK and US editions, and was able to so in the first four volumes. This book, however, came sealed in its original wrapping, and I can not bring myself to remove the wrap.I content myself that I have a feel for the original language after reading the first four volumes!

The seller was fast, concerned that I be pleased, and responsive when I expressed my delight with the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Chosen One Returns . . .
Fame is not the only thing that Harry Potter will have to worry about as he trains with Dumbledore.Lord Voldemort's forces are on the move, seeking to dominate the Wizarding world.I enjoy this story because it tells a classic story of an average teenager trying to cope with the burden of fame while struggling with world that is rapidly changing around him.I would recommend this book not only to Harry Potter fans, but also anyone who relishes fantasy, fiction, and coming of age books.A must read that should be introduced to every audience that can relate to the life of an average teenager. The Young Guardians and the Genesis Spell

4-0 out of 5 stars More Mature Harry Gets a Thumbs Up From Me!
Harry, with his dry sarcasm still intact, has emerged from the doubts & insults of the previous two books. Teenage romance/chest monsters and trying unknown spells aside, I loved his maturity when it came to friendship. He's no longer embarrassed by Luna and Neville, inviting Luna to Slughorn's party, and going off to try and comfort Hermione when, ordinarily, he'd stick by Ron's side. ... Read more

Product Description
I say to you all, once again--in the light of
Lord Voldemort’s return, we are only as strong
as we are united, as weak as we are divided.
Lord Voldemort’s gift for spreading discord and
enmity is very great. We can fight it only by showing
an equally strong bond of friendship and trust.

So spoke Albus Dumbledore at the end of Harry Potter’s fourthyear at Hogwarts. But as Harry enters his fifth year at wizard school,it seems those bonds have never been more sorely tested. LordVoldemort’s rise has opened a rift in the wizarding world betweenthose who believe the truth about his return, and those who prefer tobelieve it’s all madness and lies--just more trouble fromHarry Potter.

Add to this a host of other worries for Harry…
• A Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher with a personality like poisoned honey
• A venomous, disgruntled house-elf
• Ron as keeper of the Gryffindor Quidditch team
• And of course, what every student dreads: end-of-term Ordinary Wizarding Level exams

…and you’d know what Harry faces during the day. But atnight it’s even worse, because then he dreams of a single door in asilent corridor. And this door is somehow more terrifying than everyother nightmare combined.

In the richest installment yet of J. K. Rowling’s seven-partstory, Harry Potter confronts the unreliability of the very governmentof the magical world, and the impotence of the authorities atHogwarts.

Despite this (or perhaps because of it) Harry finds depth and strengthin his friends, beyond what even he knew; boundless loyalty andunbearable sacrifice.

Though thick runs the plot (as well as the spine), readers willrace through these pages, and leave Hogwarts, like Harry, wishing onlyfor the next train back.Amazon.com Review
As his fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry approaches, 15-year-old Harry Potter is in full-blown adolescence, complete with regular outbursts of rage, a nearly debilitating crush, and the blooming of a powerful sense of rebellion. It's been yet another infuriating and boring summer with the despicable Dursleys, this time with minimal contact from our hero's non-Muggle friends from school. Harry is feeling especially edgy at the lack of news from the magic world, wondering when the freshly revived evil Lord Voldemort will strike. Returning to Hogwarts will be a relief... or will it?

The fifth book in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series follows the darkest year yet for our young wizard, who finds himself knocked down a peg or three after the events of last year. Somehow, over the summer, gossip (usually traced back to the magic world's newspaper, the Daily Prophet) has turned Harry's tragic and heroic encounter with Voldemort at the Triwizard Tournament into an excuse to ridicule and discount the teen. Even Professor Dumbledore, headmaster of the school, has come under scrutiny by the Ministry of Magic, which refuses to officially acknowledge the terrifying truth that Voldemort is back. Enter a particularly loathsome new character: the toadlike and simpering ("hem, hem") Dolores Umbridge, senior undersecretary to the Minister of Magic, who takes over the vacant position of Defense Against Dark Arts teacher--and in no time manages to become the High Inquisitor of Hogwarts, as well. Life isn't getting any easier for Harry Potter. With an overwhelming course load as the fifth years prepare for their Ordinary Wizarding Levels examinations (O.W.Ls), devastating changes in the Gryffindor Quidditch team lineup, vivid dreams about long hallways and closed doors, and increasing pain in his lightning-shaped scar, Harry's resilience is sorely tested.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, more than any of the four previous novels in the series, is a coming-of-age story. Harry faces the thorny transition into adulthood, when adult heroes are revealed to be fallible, and matters that seemed black-and-white suddenly come out in shades of gray. Gone is the wide-eyed innocent, the whiz kid of Sorcerer's Stone. Here we have an adolescent who's sometimes sullen, often confused (especially about girls), and always self-questioning. Confronting death again, as well as a startling prophecy, Harry ends his year at Hogwarts exhausted and pensive. Readers, on the other hand, will be energized as they enter yet again the long waiting period for the next title in the marvelous, magical series. (Ages 9 and older) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

I am reading this entire series out loud to my kids. They cant wait til I get home so I can read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality + Quantity
J.K. Rowling's fifth installment of the "Harry Potter" series does not disappoint. I was a little late jumping on the HP bandwagon (it's 2010, can't you tell?) :-) But this has been my favorite book of the series so far. The first few chapters are much more engaging in comparison to the previous books, as she jumps into action much more quickly. However, "Order of the Phoenix" is definitely a book of girth. At almost 900 pages, it takes patience. Don't judge it based on the movies -- as with any of the HP movies, they leave out a lot in comparison to the books.

1-0 out of 5 stars Totally overhyped
This book is poorly written and boring. At this point in the series, the characters are starting to get quite weary and shallow. The huge number of characters leads to a painful lack of any real relationship between many of them and reduces any empathy the reader might have had in previous books in the series. All the spells and magical hokus-pokus failed to entertain anyone in our family.I recommend people quit after book 4.

With six two-page spreads featuring the key scenes from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, this Harry Potter pop-up book allows younger children to begin to experience the thrilling saga of Harry Potter's first year at Hogwarts. Every page literally pops out with creative 3-D engineering in full color, while pull-tabs allow readers to bring a Quidditch game to life or help Harry see his heart's desire in the Mirror of Erised. 5-0 out of 5 stars Book Review
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is the engrossing first chapter of the story of Harry Potter and his adventures in being a famous wizard. In this story, Harry Potter is just a baby when his parents are killed and he is left at the doorstep of his aunt and uncle. On Harry's 11th birthday, he is told by a vistor that he is a real life wizard and he has been accepted to "Hogwarts", a school that teaches students how to be a wizard. Along the way Harry makes two best friends and encounters adventure around every corner.

This fantastic novel by J.K. Rowling has been a big surprise for me! I will admit that the only reason that I began to read it was because I am going into the elementary education field and I wanted to be able to say that I have read at least one of the books for my students' sake. But before I knew it, I was totally engrossed in the adventure and the friendship between Harry, Hermony, and Ron and wanted to not only finish the book, but watch the movie! As a child, I dreamed of being a wizard myself. I often wondered what a world like that would look like and feel like, and after reading this book, I believe I have my answer.

After watching the movie, I am totally hooked and am thinking I just might have to finish the series. The author is a genius in keeping the audience engrossed in caring about all the characters, even the not so nice ones. The world of Harry Potter leaves the reader to use their imagination like no other book I have ever read. A world of wizardry, magic, and enchantment is something I believe each child should experience for themselves and I would recommend this book to any teacher or student, and I believe it is appropriate for all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I ordered the book for my 9 year old son and myself. We have never read nor watched the Harry Potter series. We are loving book one and so glad I waited to share this reading experience with him.We can't wait to finish book one and then we are onto the next!

4-0 out of 5 stars good book
this is a really good book but the first few chapters are really really really really really really really really really (i could go on like this forever)really boring. I attempted to read it three times before I FINALLY DECIDED TO PUSH THROUGH THOSE FEW BORING CHAPTERS AND FOUND TAT I REALLY LIKED THE BOOK IN FACT I READTHE SECOND BOOK IN 1 OR TWO DAYS!

4-0 out of 5 stars Sorcerers
Haven't seen any of the movies or read any of the books, until recently. My friend Nichole's always talking about them. It's okay but not much fun as I hoped. Harry had a bad life. He goes to Hogwarts. Something happens. He solves the problem.

4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed reading it!
I have never read a Harry Potter book, but I always enjoyed watching the Harry Potter movies. For this unit, however, I decided to read the first book in the Harry Potter series: The Sorcerer's Stone. I enjoyed reading this book because for me, reading is like a movie, but a more thorough and imaginative experience. When I watch a movie where I've read the book prior, the movie gives me an expressed idea for the thoughts the author imagined. And vice versa for when you read the book prior to watching the movie. The ideas expressed in the movie in correlation to the book, in my opinion, are pretty accurate. Obviously, there are some things here and there that you miss out when you only watch the movie, but, depending on the book, do those things matter in a movie? I think that's the question you have to ask yourself when you decide to only read the books or only watch the movies or both.

I really enjoyed reading this book, but I'm not sure if I enjoyed it enough to want to read the rest of the series, or just continue watching the movies. If I had plenty of free time then I would probably read the books and watch the movies. However, as we get older, we lose the free time we once dearly had and you find out the things you love to do most. Over the years, I've found out that reading is not one of the things I love to do most. I enjoy reading a lot, but under normal circumstances, I would choose other options over reading to spend my free time. In other words, for example, If I had a choice, I would rather watch the Lord of the Rings movies instead of reading the books. The point I'm getting to is that the book and the movie, for me, were so alike that I barely noticed a difference. Like I said before, there are some things you miss when you watch the movies. But were the absence of those things such a great impact on my experience in watching the movie? No. Would I be happy with watching the Harry Potter movies or reading the books? Yes, I would. It's a preference thing, and I believe I will have the same feelings and outcome if I do either.

Now, onto the actual review of the book... I enjoyed the book. I enjoy the author's writing style. It's easy to read and it's a relaxed writing. It flows very well and I have no trouble going through the book. As I began to read things like Beowulf and The Odyssey, I noticed that I read easier material a lot quicker. Material that contains many big words and a complex writing style from way back when is usually something I will not pick up for leisure reading. Harry Potter, for me, definitely falls under the "leisure reading" category.

The story for Harry Potter is a very captivating story and it makes you want to keep reading. I hated the fact that the Dursley's were so mean to Harry. Personally, I don't think Dumbledore looked hard enough to find close family. What about Serius Black? Anyways...I also really liked the train station. Platform 9 ¾ is a very good idea, in my opinion. The characters in the book are all very expressed and the author does a good job at balancing each character's importance and role. At the end, I really liked the trials they had to go through to get to the Sorcerer's Stone. Another thing, wouldn't someone notice that Professor Quirrell had a man on the back of his head!? Anyways, again, I really liked the story. It was full and made you want to be a wizard yourself.
To conclude, I would have to say that I enjoyed reading this book. However, I think I enjoyed reading the book about as much as I enjoyed watching the movie. And that's my personal preference and that shouldn't stop you from reading or enjoying the book. J.K. Rowling is a great author and I hope she keeps doing what she loves.

Fourteen-year-old Harry Potter joins the Weasleys at the Quidditch World Cup, then enters his fourth year at Hogwarts Academy where he is mysteriously entered in an unusual contest that challenges his wizarding skills, friendships and character, amid signs that an old enemy is growing stronger.Amazon.com Review
In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, J.K. Rowlingoffers up equal parts danger and delight--and any number of dragons,house-elves, and death-defying challenges. Now 14, her orphan hero hasonly two more weeks with his Muggle relatives before returning toHogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Yet one night a visionharrowing enough to make his lightning-bolt-shaped scar burn has Harryon edge and contacting his godfather-in-hiding, Sirius Black. Happily, the prospect of attending the season's premier sporting event, theQuidditch World Cup, is enough to make Harry momentarily forget thatLord Voldemort and his sinister familiars--the Death Eaters--are outfor murder.

Readers, we will cast a giant invisibility cloak over any more plotand reveal only that You-Know-Who is very much after Harry and thatthis year there will be no Quidditch matches between Gryffindor,Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Instead, Hogwarts will vie withtwo other magicians' schools, the stylish Beauxbatons and the icyDurmstrang, in a Triwizard Tournament. Those chosen to compete willundergo three supreme tests. Could Harry be one of the luckycontenders?

But Quidditch buffs need not go into mourning: we get our share ofthis great game at the World Cup. Attempting to go incognito asMuggles, 100,000 witches and wizards converge on a "nice desertedmoor." As ever, Rowling magicks up the details that make her world sovivid, and so comic. Several spectators' tents, for instance, areentirely unquotidian. One is a minipalace, complete with livepeacocks; another has three floors and multiple turrets. And thesports paraphernalia on offer includes rosettes "squealing the namesof the players" as well as "tiny models of Firebolts that really flew, and collectible figures of famous players, which strolled across thepalm of your hand, preening themselves." Needless to say, the twoteams are decidedly different, down to their mascots. Bulgaria issupported by the beautiful veela, who instantly enchanteveryone--including Ireland's supporters--over to their side. Until, that is, thousands of tiny cheerleaders engage in some pyrotechnics oftheir own: "The leprechauns had risen into the air again, and thistime, they formed a giant hand, which was making a very rude signindeed at the veela across the field."

Long before her fourth installment appeared, Rowling warned that itwould be darker, and it's true that every exhilaration is equaled by amoment that has us fearing for Harry's life, the book's emotionsrunning as deep as its dangers. Along the way, though, she conjures upsuch new characters as Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody, a Dark Wizard catcherwho may or may not be getting paranoid in his old age, and RitaSkeeter, who beetles around Hogwarts in search of stories. (ThisDaily Prophet scoop artist has a Quick-Quotes Quill that turnseven the most innocent assertion into tabloid innuendo.) And at herbedazzling close, Rowling leaves several plot strands open, awaitingbook 5. This fan is ready to wager that the author herself is partveela--her pen her wand, her commitment to her world complete. (Ages 9and older) --Kerry Fried ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Harry Potter
I did not order this my daughter did - So I really do not know

4-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected -- but a keeper
I was a little confused by the advertising, and it was not exactly what I was expecting, but when I reviewed the advertisement and what I received, the match was accurate.I may not have purchased this edition had I gleaned a clearer understanding (a lack of a cover picture contributed to my misunderstanding), but it is a first edition in its format, as promised, so I ended up being very pleased.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value
I bought this book to replace a copy my granddaughter had that had been read so much it was falling apart. The book was received as advertised and in a very timely manner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spoiled Me
I am a middle aged closet Harry Potter fan.I have now been totally spoiled by Jim Dale and his fabulous storytelling of Harry Potter. Of all the Harry Potter books, Goblet of Fire was my least favorite until I listened to this audio version. Now, I love it just as much as the others.I am afraid I have been spoiled by Jim Dale and any other reader will pale in comparison.I highly recommend the entire collection and I am sure you will become a fan too!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book saved the series for me.
Don't get me wrong, I liked the first three books, but they didn't blow me away. They all felt juvenile, and it felt as though Rowling was almost afraid to make the stories darker. I haven't yet finished the Order of the Phoenix, so I can't commentate on the series as a whole. I can say that this book changed my feelings about the series from that of an enjoyable juvenile adventure to a full-blown epic that must be experienced. It is a slow book for the first five hundred pages, but it really picks up at the end. The entire book is worth reading for the end. Don't quit reading, because you will be blown away when you get to the third task in the Triwizard cup. After this book, I have full faith that my time is being well invested when reading this series. I can't wait to see where Rowling takes the series in the last few books. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Want a Fun Adventure? Read this Book!!
I really enjoyed this book! It was very well written and I really felt that by the end of the book I was part of Andi's family. The author did a wonderful job on Virginia, for I disliked her the first time she came into the picture.

All in all, I thought it was a very good book for young children as well as teens. I recommend it to anyone who would like a nice book to pass the afternoon with.

4-0 out of 5 stars A most likeable heroine
Reviewed by Sheryl Root

Andrea (Andi) Carter certainly didn't intend for an impromptu horse race down Main Street with her friend, Cory, to end with almost trampling their new teacher. Not the best first impression! If that wasn't bad enough, Virginia Foster, the teacher's daughter, seems to find great pleasure in tattling on Andi and getting her into further trouble any chance she can.

Andi's mother tells her she needs to treat Virginia with Christian kindness, no matter how Virginia treats her. But when an escaped prisoner comes into their classroom and takes the students hostage, Andi faces the hardest and most dangerous decision of her life. Will she have the courage to do the right thing, no matter what the cost?

Andrea Carter and the Dangerous Decision is the second book in the Circle C Adventures series by Susan K. Marlow, set in 1880s California. Readers will empathize with Andi's struggles and failures as well as her courage and spunk. Like most of us, Andi tries to do the right thing, but finds herself often falling short. I laughed and cried with Andi--she's a very likable heroine.

Armchair Interviews says: This was a page-turning read and a satisfying continuation to the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another awesome Andi story!
Andi and Taffy are back in this sequel to "The Long Ride Home", and they are up to no good from the get-go, leaving the new schoolmaster in the dust and getting off to a bad start for the school year. The schoolmaster's spoiled daughter, Virginia, makes life miserable for Andi, and we accompany our young friend on her journey of accepting and even learning to love as God loves us...even people who seem to want to make our lives miserable.

I love the Circle K Adventure books, and I left my 'tween days behind a very long time ago.Without being "preachy", Mrs. Marlow incorporates the Lord's directive to "love one another as I have loved you", something that we can all use a reminder of, no matter our age!

Hurry back, Andi.I'm dying to know what you're up to now!!

5-0 out of 5 stars very enjoyable...
I really enjoyed the book.I like the author's writing style and the characters.I especially liked how Bella rushed to save Edward and became a stronger character for it; overcoming her own sadness and depression.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bella is a spine-less, pathetic excuse for a main character
This book is really infuriating.

The perfect, sweet smelling, brooding Edward Cullen decides the best thing to do would be to leave Bella so that she can start a less dangerous life without him in it. Bella's reaction to Edward leaving is utterly moronic. First of all, she HAS to know Edward adores her and loves her, but being the whiny and irritating character that she is, she tells herself that he must not care for her at all. She is supposed to be intelligent, but she never considers the real reason Edward left her - for her own benefit, so he could not hurt her any more. Of course, she jumps to conclusions and assumes Edward has no feelings for her whatsoever, which was really annoying to read. Second, after he leaves, she wanders the forest after dark until she collapses into the dirt, with no sense of time or direction. This. Is. Ridiculous.

No matter HOW much you love someone, no matter how obsessed you are with them, there is NO reason to curl up on the floor in the middle of the woods and go into shock. There is no reason why Bella should have to be saved by a rescue team and scare her father to death because someone broke up with her. I understand the devastation - cry all you want, scream all you want, etc - but to completely shut down like that is a little much. As the months go by, Bella is described as being "zombie-like". That is not Edward's fault. That is Bella being nothing but WEAK. Where is your spine? Where is any sense of confidence, any sense of self importance? She does not go out with her friends. She doesn't listen to music. She doesn't read. She is a shell of a person. I don't care how upset you are. Put on a front for other people and TRY and have as good of a time as you can despite being incredibly depressed. It's possible. Staying inside all the time in isolation is NOT going to make you feel better, at all. The "hole" in her chest analogy was really funny to me. I couldn't believe Bella actually had to LITERALLY wrap her arms around her chest to "hold herself together" - are you serious?

We are introduced further to poor Jacob Black, whom Bella does not seem to regard as an actual person. Jacob is used from beginning to end in this entire series. Bella starts hanging out with Jake as an escape from her tormented thoughts about Edward - which would have been fine, if she wasn't only hanging out with Jake to further allow herself to hallucinate about Edward. The "reckless" things Bella does - throw herself off a cliff, ride motorcycles, talk to potential rapists, etc - to conjure Edward's "velvet" voice were laughable. But the worst was that Jacob had no idea. He had no idea Bella was only riding bikes with him to think of Edward, no idea that Bella was even still thinking about him (until the end). She had NO regard for Jacob's feelings at all. She even has the nerve to invite Jacob to go with her to find her and Edward's special meadow in the woods. He has no clue what it signifies - how horrible if he ever found out! He is clearly in love with her, and yet she dismisses him immediately when Edward comes back into the picture. It's unfair to everyone involved.

The build-up in this book was even worse than the previous. I can think of hundreds of things more terrifying than the Volturi. They did not intimidate me or frighten me at all. I never felt as if any of the characters were ever in real danger. The way they simply shrugged off the entire issue at the end and basically postponed the punishment made me lose any feeling that they were to be feared. If you're the most powerful and ancient vampires and someone breaks one of your rules, it's expected that you do SOMETHING about it, rather than saying "Okay, do you pinky promise you'll change Bella into a vampire? In that case, we'll see you in book four!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down!
Love this book. Just as good as the first, the rest of the series is great too!

4-0 out of 5 stars Slower paced but strong character development
Blood and Sunlight: A Maryland Vampire StoryOkay, so this is a lot of people's least favorite in the series. The pacing in the book is dreadfully slow. Bella spends a lot of time wallowing and doing harmful things. But it resonates true and it makes the ending in Italy that much more exciting. Finally, Edward and Bella are together for all about 5 minutes. It's a wonderful prelude to book 3.

1-0 out of 5 stars I think I'm actually dumber now.
I thought it couldn't get worse but, yes, it did.So let me get this straight, super creepy stalker boyfriend who treats you like you can't formulate an idea, leaves you in the middle of the woods like the sniveling little whiney brat that you are and this is a bad thing?Okay, I give, where's the punchline?Oh wait, there isn't one.I guess it's me for reading this garbage.I can't go on, if you want to know why I think this is utter and complete trash see my Twilight review, that pretty clearly sums it up. ...
