not as good as you'd think
Very few of these recipies were actually usefull. this book focuses more on the authors observations of the outdoors than actual cooking. Most of the recipies involved lots of fishy tasting ingredients that you would notwant to find out that you were stuck eating miles away from any re-supplyareas. Good if you REALLY like lots of salty fishy flavors.

Expedition cooking....
This book focuses on backcountry cooking en masse for a group of 4 or more. I travel either by myself or with small groups, in which each member brings his own food and does his own cooking. This book was not veryhelpful to me.

This book was a brilliant work of art.
This book changed my life for the better! It was an incredible metphore for the human condition and a path to enlightenment!It was a religeous experience to read. Unbleiveable...it has "Pulitzer" written allover it.

The best wilderness/outdoor cooking handbook that was ever published in the U.S., in my opinion.All you will ever need to know.All variations with sour dough, full details for fine baked goods using the campfire and your own pots. Preparing all the animals you might hunt to the fish you might catch is explained,with delicious recipes after the preparations, while you are out in the wild.You will want to try Rabbit with coconut sauce ,fresh or canned; I'll trade the prairie wolf stew for the braised rabbit in wine, thank you.You learn to cook without kitchen cookware if you have to, constructing substitutes for pots made of bark, or fine roasting in the pits you construct.From a really good 'squirrel soup to nuts' or cakes and desserts, the illustrations are handsome; and the recipes are well written and easy to follow, and can be used with all the modern conveniences at home if you wish. Sure it's cheap, but it'll make your eyes bleed
Full disclosure - I haven't tried any recipes yet, but as soon as I started actually reading this thing several severe limitations prompted me to put up a review.First of all - the formatting is awful. It's hard to tell where one recipe ends and where another begins.Everything runs together and it's easy to get lost on the page.This is a fundamental problem in a cookbook.There is no table of contents, just a bunch of recipes sorted alphabetically by name in a huge text file.So good luck finding what you're looking for -- 'chicken caccitore' is in the "C"s while 'hunter's chicken' is with the "H"s -- even though they're closely related dishes.Lastly, this goes from aggravation to insult because of the large-font advertising of the publishers website.Not just any advertising, mind you, but big blue (on the PC) letters randomly placed on EVERY SINGLE PAGE.Sometimes it's in between recipes, sometimes it's in the middle of a recipe.I already paid for it, why are you still advertising to me?All of the recipes seem to be exported from Master Cook, so I'm guessing that you could find them all online with the help of Google and some research time.I picked it up because I figured I can't go wrong with a 99-cent cookbook, but now I know that it is indeed possible.Giving it two stars only because there might be a good recipe in here... if I could only find it. ... Appetite for your eyes and body
This book contains incredible high quality pictures of Busses and dishes. I really enjoyed the content and this was the first VW book that my wife also read. Recipes are simple to do and this is the book that I will always have in my camper. Mahalo!
