5-0 out of 5 stars This is a must have, if you have cancer and are going to try Macrobiotics
This book is different, because it is divided up by the different types of cancer. It tells you the SPECIFICS of what you need to add to or subtract from the normal Macrobiotic diet for dealing with your specific kind of cancer. He also gives you a rundown of what the dietary causes are for your cancer. You also need a good general Macrobiotic book that explains the diet/lifestyle.But you definitely need this book. The normal Macrobiotic diet is not what is recommended for specific kinds of cancers, according to this book. I went on the diet for breast cancer about 15 years ago, when I found a lump the size of a small egg.I followed the diet in this book for breast cancer to the letter, and in two weeks the lump was a third the size as it was originally, and in 3 weeks it was gone.I stayed on the breast cancer diet (from this book) for another week, and then went on the regular Macrobiotics for a while.I was able to add lots of things in when I went off the specific breast cancer diet, as it is pretty restrictive, even for macrobiotics.I don't know that I had cancer.I didn't go to a doctor and have anything done to find out.But I DO know that my lump went away, I felt great, and I had more energy than I ever had in my life. And I have never had a lump come back. This book is extremely good.I can only think some of the other reviewers did not realize exactly what this book was about and/or understand how to apply it.

If you are already using another book and have cancer, just keep on the regular macrobiotics until you get this one, to see the specifics for your kind of cancer.I recommend this book very highly!IF YOU DO NOT HAVE CANCER and are trying Macrobiotics in general, this book is good to have, but I would not think it would be really necessary for you.It would probably be good to have on hand if you were going to give help to someone who DID have cancer though.

3-0 out of 5 stars Has Anyone Actually Read this Edition the The Cancer Prevention Diet?
Since no one seems to be addressing this particular edition of this particular book, I don't feel out of line to post this non-review review.
I have read the positive and negative discussions regarding Macrobiotics, the Kushi's personal health, etc.
What I would like to know is:Has anyone actually read this edition of this book?
How does it compare to the original edition that came out many years ago?
Is there anything new?
Are there any changes?
Would I benefit from reading this new version? or is it just a new release of an old edition with a few pages of introduction to macrobiotics to new readers, as many of the other reprints of old macrobiotic books have been?
Macrobiotics is great.I have read many of the books.Anyone would benefit from adopting the principles of the macrobiotic way of life.
However, Amazon is a site for selling books (among other things) not debating the principles of Macrobiotics.Reviews are supposed to help other customers decide if they should buy this particular BOOK.What about this particular BOOK?

Feel free to comment.I will gladly delete this post if someone would just address THIS BOOK and stop hashing out the pros and cons of Macrobiotics, Macro-neurotics, prevention or cure, the Kushi's personal lives....

3-0 out of 5 stars Healthy oils are essential
Some of the ideas in this book are great; others are terrible. The important work that has been done since the 1980s concerning the essential, healing role that omega-3 fatty acids play in the human diet is not reflected in this book.Be very, very cautious if you use this book.Be sure to read widely to make up for the major deficits of scientific, nutritional knowledge that plague this author.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative and Well-Written
Once again, Mischio Kushi has written an informative and precise book on how to maintain your health, even when facing a diagnosis of cancer.

Like so much of the macrobiotic diet, this is a healthy and great diet to begin to feel great and regain your health.

4-0 out of 5 stars Informative
This book is informative, but since cancer patients have to see a nutritiionist and eat whatever their body allows them to eat, this can be difficult. But, if the the patient can eat whatever they need to, this book has lots of good advice and suggestions. ... Read more

Product Description
"From one of the most visible and highly respected figures in medical journalism comes a book that can literally save lives.

During the past several years, doctors at leading institutions acrossthe nation have been investigating the relationship between breastcancer and diet. The recent flood of medical studies confirm that whata woman eats can have a dramatic impact on whether or not shecontracts the disease. In The Breast Cancer Prevention Diet, Dr. BobArnot, in his unique, expert fashion, has synthesized this researchinto an eating program that finally enables women to fight back.

The breast cancer prevention diet is designed with all women in mind;whether you want to guard yourself against the onset of breast cancer,or protect yourself from recurrence, the diet offers valuableinformation that will address your particular needs, including plansfor:

-women with high estrogen, who are therefore at a higher risk -postmenopausal women with lower estrogen levels -breast cancer survivors -women with a familial history of breast cancer

-young women who want to take precautionary measures.

Back again with his simple yet enormously powerful premise, Dr. Arnot encourages you to think of foods as drugs -- without the side effects. Although you can't single out specific foods or toxins that initiate breast cancer, you can still take charge of your diet -- and in the long run, your life. There are certain foods that can significantly decrease your risk. With a clear overview of the biology of the breast and information about the way in which cancer spreads, Dr. Arnot offers helpful, practical guidelines that will allow you to incorporate these powerful foods into your diet. The Breast Cancer Prevention Diet is easy to follow, complete with delicious menu suggestions, cooking techniques, and the general information women need to make significant dietary choices that could ultimately save their lives. 4-0 out of 5 stars Fine research, but needs to be updated
If you want to drastically reduce your risk of breast cancer, lots of information in this book will help you.For example, consume more fiber and more vegetables.Eschew alcohol. But, this book is now 12 years old and new research is available. Please ask Dr. Arnot to update his book with current research.

3-0 out of 5 stars Food is good medicine
My mother passed away at 69 from a 2nd round of breast cancer that spread throughout her body. Her mother, my grandmother, lived to almost 89 and died of natural causes. What was the difference? My Greek grandmother had a diet rich in olive oil, fish, homegrown herbs and vegetables. My Mom kept dieting, hated exercise, and even eliminated protein from her diet (including fish), and she also developed osteoporosis. We have so many environmental factors that we can't control, so it really makes sense to be good to yourself with your diet. I'm for a mediterranean diet that includes organic fresh food. My Greek grandfather lived to 102, and so did his mother, my great-grandmother.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Just for the Ladies
In THE BREAST CANCER PREVENTION DIET, Dr. Bob Arnot considers breast cancer in terms of its causes, its pathology, its treatment, and its relation to other cancers.Dr. Arnot tries hard to keep the medical jargon down to a minimum but his opening discussion of estrogen receptors might be a bit too deep for those with little medical backgound. Nevertheless, his analyses of the underlying causes represent what was then (1998) cutting edge technology and still holds relevance today. His position that certain foods may actually reduce the incidence of breast cancer or even eliminate it is far less controversial than some of his detractors hold who insist that obesity rather than diet is the determining factor. For Dr. Arnot, diet is supremely important not onlyfor the standard nutrients like vitamins and minerals, but also for the less well-known presence (or absence) or more exotic elements like Omega-3 fish oils, antioxidants, and genistein.Arnot connects a number of loose nutritional threads like fiber, body fat, insulin levels and soy and flax products that synergistically interact to reduce if not eliminate breast cancer.Arnot is fond of charts as he uses them judiciously to list and rank various subcategories of anti-breast cancer components. For example, for those who wish to increase their intake of Omega-3 fatty acids but do not wish to do so by tablet supplementation, his chart on page 88 identifies from highest to lowest those fish foods that are particularly rich in that oil.He later addresses an often overlooked factor in cancer growth: the glycemic index that identifies foods that on one level seem healthy due to nutritional content but on another contain excess glucose to the extant that blood sugar diseases like diabetes would become likely.Much of his other advice is rock solid and well-known.His chapter on fiber clearly explains what it is, how it operates, and how it can reduce both body weight and breast cancer. Here he presents another handy chart that lists common fiber rich breakfast cereals by name.He finishes with erudite analyses of antioxidant capacities of selected fruits and vegetables, chemical estrogen avoidance strategies, and what he terms "road maps" as breast cancer prevention plans. The advice he writes of is not limited to women. If men were to follow the same advice they would benefit in ways not limited to avoiding breast cancer. In fact, Dr. Arnot's book can be seen as a general guide to good health that just happens to have a particular use toward breast cancer.Good advice, he notes, has more than one focus.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't listen to the 1 stars....
This book is based on clinical trials, on going studies, and observations from respected MDs.One of the main points explains the role of estrogen and estrogen blocking foods and drugs. This is the best way to fight the estrogen driven cancers that are plaguing American women today. My mother has stage 4 breast cancer that has spread to her bones, at that stage they don't even do chemo or radiation because it's incurable, and there's not enough evidence that it will help. The only thing that helps keep this cancer in check is estrogen blockers. The reason this healthy, active, organic food eating person got this cancer is because she was on hormone replacement therapy for the last 15 years. The information in this book has been keeping her alive and feeling well.If you have cancer, good luck to you.Food is one of your best medicines.

1-0 out of 5 stars No Diet Can Prevent Breast Cancer
Dr Arnot knows that no diet can prevent breast cancer. With the exception of alcohol (two or more drinks a day), no diet or foods have been conclusively linked to substantially increasing or decreasing the risk of breast cancer. It is disappointing that a tv doctor who is familiar to millions chose to give false hope to readers -- and make money from it. He should be embarrased and ashamed to be cashing in on women's fear of breast cancer by claiming that there is any combination of food and supplements that can prevent breast cancer.Anything for a buck! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Careful
The American Cancer Society strongly urges people with cancer not to use a dietary program as an exclusive or primary means of treatment, and many long-term practitioners of the diet, including Michio Kushi's wife, Aveline, and daughter Lilly, died of cancer. Michio Kushi himself developed cancer and in 2004 had a tumor removed surgically from his intestines.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, Easy & Delicious recipes!
I found the information to be quite helpful and a great reminder about smart food choices. I've used about 6 of the recipes and love them all. They're easy to make, healthy & delicious.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful
This is a veryhelpful book, written in easy-to-understand language and containing some recipes that sound very good...if you are cleared to eat soy products. If not, make appropriate adjustments to the recipes so you don't encourage a return or resurrection of cancer cells.

3-0 out of 5 stars Some aspects bother me..
I actually haven't finished this book yet, and I do think there is some great info so far. No doubt, a diet focused on fruits, veggies and whole grains is what we should all strive for....however, there are a few points that bother me so far:

1 - It's stated that one of the reasons to avoid both chicken and fish is due to the "saturated fat content". Heh?? Skinless chicken breast has .4 grams of saturated fat. And fish has always been considered low in saturated fat, even fatty fish like salmon is low in saturated fat. So I don't understand their claim on this.

2 - I bought this book thinking it was both for cancer prevention and also cancer survival (for those diagnosed and, as the title states, "...fighting back"). But then on page 83 in the Q and A section, it states that this book is only intended for cancer prevention and for those who are FINISHED with treatment. (?) So I'm very confused on who the audience is...because many parts of the book make it seem it's for people currently fighting the disease.

3 - One big side effect of cancer in the abdominal/lung areas is ascites. And diet very much affects that, yet I didn't see ascites mentioned anywere. Ascites is massive fluid build-up around the abdominal cavity and lung area that is a side effect of cancer in that region. It's usually one of the initial signs alerting people to a cancer diagnosis. It swells the abdomen very uncomfortably and can cause labored breathing when it interferes with lungs. My mother is currently battling stage IV ovarian cancer, and suffered with ascites. A diet rich in solid protein sources is very important in treating this. Her doctors, as well as a nutritionist, instructed her to focus on proteins like chicken and fish every day. As far as soy protein goes, they say to avoid it for those fighting breast and ovarian cancers due to the estrogen. (Though there are conflicting reports.)

4 - The recipes are very low-fat...only 10-20% fat, which seems very low. They suggest giving up ALL meat/poultry/fish sources, no eggs, no dairy...plus limiting fat to such a low amount...which all in all, I think is a bit extreme. (For some of the recipes, I would probably add a little more avocado or nuts, just for satiety.) While it may be ideal nutrition, I think it will be tough to stick to.

Other than that, it is very informative about nutrition and cancer, and at the very least...it can help you increase the amount of fruits and vegetables in your diet, which is always a good thing. So take it with a grain of salt. (Or salt substitute.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Packed with Information and Health Boosting Recipes
This book explains the importance of eating the right foods to boost our immune system so our body can work to fight cancer. This information has been published in peer reviewed medical journals. It has delicious recipes that have disease fighting antioxidents. One of my favorite cookbooks.

Product Description
Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo has forever changed the strategy for eating right to lose weight and achieving maximum health. Because he discovered what many already instinctively knew-that a plan that works for one person may make another ill-there will never be a one-size-fits-all diet again. And since we now know that each blood type is affected differently by common diseases and conditions, there will never be a one-size-fits-all plan of action.

With more than 2 million copies of his books in print, G. P. Putnam's Sons announces the launch of Dr. D'Adamo's Eat Right 4 (for) Your Type Library. Over the next two years, eight books will be published on eight different conditions, the first two being cancer and diabetes. In these books, readers will find new information individualized for their blood type and illness. In addition to the food categories Beneficial, Neutral, and Avoid, Dr. D'Adamo introduces a new category-Superbeneficial-for helping your body fight disease. He also introduces self-assessment tests to determine status and measure progress. Supplement, lifestyle, and exercise protocols are tailored to each blood type and condition. There has never been a better arsenal for fighting disease, and never an easier or clearer tool. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not all inclusive but a good introduction to concepts geared at a particular challenge
I actually bought this book to help me for an essay based on Dr. D'Adamo's research regarding cancer and type A blood.

I went through all of his books as well as some other information from his website and a study guide.

I am awaiting my test results, but my assessment is this book is meant to be an introduction to the concepts based on a specific health concern. If your goal is to learn something and modify your diet a little, this book will help.

I would encourage you to take it to a deeper level than just this one book.

The info D'Adamo has presented on cancer is spread throughout Dr. D's many works. Certainly knowledge is not stagnant and any one source is a bit outdated the minute it is published. There is some info that appears in multiple places, but I think on the whole, I got a much better grasp on this approach from going through all of the books.

I would encourage anyone dealing with cancer to work with an IfHI practitioner in conjunction with their MD or oncologist. You may or may not find support or understanding of this approach as a lot of the science (AND THERE IS A TON OF SCIENCE RESEARCH OUT THERE) has not been taught in medical school or publicized by others.

Of course, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. :)

Jump on over to the author's site and check out the message boards and all the info. You will find a supportive community and people who have healed themselves of all sorts of things---and people who are being proactive and going toward optimum health.

It's been an outstanding journey for me so far. Many blessings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Message from a Cancer Fighter
Please bear with this long review.I am currently being treated for breast cancer and I have AB blood type.My chiropractor gave me this book. I was struck by the fact that AB blood type is not only rare, but creates a friendly immune system. My particular diagnosis is early stage (2), estrogen-receptor positive. This cancer is known to be more aggressive in Black women.Based on those factors, I knew that I did not want a one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition.

I had never been able to conquer my sweet tooth prior to this diagnosis.I want to share with readers my results in following the diet for blood type AB. The sweet took problem became easier to deal with once I viewed sugar as a poison. I have been following the diet as faithfully as possible for 2-1/2 months. I unexpectedly lost 18 pounds in nine weeks. My goal was to give my body the best nutrition possible as I headed toward surgery and chemo. The first 7 pounds were gone in two weeks before I had surgery. This was a good thing since I had to have lymph nodes removed and biopsied from my armpit. This procedure creates a lifelong risk of lymphedema. I still do not have lymphedema, but the weight loss helps my chances of continuing to avoid it.Chemo can also cause the onset of lymphedema.I do not ever want to get it because I am an avid tennis player.

I continued to stay on the diet and was very intentional about what I would put in my body.I dropped an additional 11 pounds.Without exercise or counting calories, the weight fell off.I became concerned that it would continue, but then my weight stabilized at just five pounds over what it was 13 years ago when I started gaining weight. It was like my metabolism had been re-set.

I started chemo almost two months ago. My goal was to keep my body supported as best I could through nutrition.Doctors don't give you details on nutrition and, as I stated before, I didn't want a one-size-fits-all approach.I added supplements to my diet regimen:milk thistle to support liver function; and an ultra-absorbable CoQ10 and fish oil for my heart health. The point of following this particular diet was to not make my body work any harder than necessary to digest food and eliminate waste.

Based on what people who had the identical chemo treatment have shared with me, I have not had the same side effects of fatigue, constipation, heartburn, insomnia, or dry mouth. This is not to say that I don't have any side effects from the chemo. My hair started falling out two weeks ago, my fingernails are darkening, and the pigment in the palms of my hands has darkened. But, I am playing tennis again, every other week, and working out in the gym.

Other things I noticed from following this diet is that I don't get gassy or bloated anymore, and I don't get sluggish after a meal. The only thing I can figure is that I am not eating those foods that are not meant for my body. That's a good thing.

For my particular diagnosis, I pray for remission (forever, if possible) because cancer could recur in any part of my body.So if this author says that to boost my Natural Killer Cells means that I need to eat snails, then I go to a French restaurant and order the escargot appetizer once a week. I have given up some foods that I'd really enjoyed in the past (crab, shrimp, flounder, and bananas, for instance), but I'm finding different recipes and foods to enjoy. This learning process is obviously worth it.I am tolerating chemo better than even the doctors imagined, but I'm also not doing anything that gets in the way of the treatment.I have every intention of coming out of this healthier than ever and I believe this book has given me the tools to do it. ... Outstanding work on how foods help fight cancer and produce good health. I have purchased a number of copies to give to my friends.

4-0 out of 5 stars Read this before you Cook
The American edition of Foods to Fight Cancer, written by Beliveau and Gingras two Canadian bio-chemists, provides scientific prose and visual diagrams readers will find both informational and useful in making dietary decisions.

The art and design of this book are exceptional.

Readers should be aware that soy should not be consumed by persons who are diagnosed with estrogen positive breast cancer.

5-0 out of 5 stars A refreshing and yet very scientific new view of cancer
In many years of cancer research I haven't found a better documented and well written book about the true nature of cancer and the daily habits that may prevent it or cure it. I recommend any cancer patient and caregiver to thoroughly study this book before undertaking any standard medical procedure. Cancer is a metabolic disease thus it is connected to nutrition. This book is an ideal guide to understand the link between cancer and what we eat. This book should be standard study material for every student, doctor, parent, teacher and social worker.

5-0 out of 5 stars Colorful, well written and well illustrated. You'll love this book.
A You Tube video sparked my interest in cancer prevention/treatment.I was amazed to find out that many of the foods we eat contain natural cancer fighting properties, some more powerful than the available drugs.I searched Amazon and found this book, "Foods to Fight Cancer."I read the reviews and decided to give it a try.I'm happy to say I wasn't disappointed. This is a great book! It's colorful, it's well written, and it's full of illustrations that enhance and clarify the text. It's a perfect example of how books should be written. It makes learning fun and easy.Best of all, I'm learning how to prevent cancer with a healthy diet of natural foods (e.g., berries, grapes, avocados, even chocolate).I can't wait to finish the book.In the meantime, I strongly suggest you purchase a copy and get started. One of the many things you'll learn is that all of us are at risk.I'll let you find out why when you read the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nutrition
Purchased this book for my sister battling cancer. My niece is her primary
caregiver and has been reading the book. She rates it as a book she cannot put down.I plan to order one for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cancer can be beaten-this is the way
I am a 48 year old former engineer who knew little about cancer when my wife was diagnosed with RCC in 2008. Like others we followed the docs instructions and rushed into surgery. Had I known then what I know now, we probably would have avoided the nephrectomy. Two months after surgery the cancer had metastasized to the lung and within three months it was in the liver and lymph nodes. Our experience with conventional treatment was a horrifying journey. My wife took a drug for just four days and I thought I was watching her die before me. That's when I began trying to find a way to save her. 'Beating cancer with nutrition' was an invaluable tool in our future. It is packed with valuable insight into the cancer epidemic and the industry that it developed as well as the importance of lifestyle choices that allowed cancer cells to overpower your immune system. The book is designed to educate the reader on optimal nutrition to improve the outcome in medically treated cancer patients. Patrick Quillin presents a mountain of useful information and recipes to boost the immune system and strengthen the body with diet. It's a very valuable resource and a good read, I can't emphasize this enough. I used what I learned from this book to further my research into natural therapy and combined what I had learned from the book as adjuvant therapy with natural supplementation for my wife. Between May 2009 and March 2010, my wifes tumor growth was reversed and she is now cancer free without suffering the horrible side effects of synthetic drug treatments or any permanent cellular damage. Our experience taught us so much that I have a book in publishing now called 'Cancer shouldn't kill you just make you smarter' and hope to have it at Amazon.com soon. I thank Patrick Quillin whole-heartedly for his book, it was the first step in my wifes cancer making me smarter, being able to reverse RCC and changing our lifestyle to prevent its reoccurance. If you yourself or someone you love has been diagnosed with cancer, you MUST get this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beating Cancer with Nutrition
This book is a MUST READ for anyone who has or knows someone with cancer OR chronic yeast infections OR chronic sinus infections. Crammed with information about how to make chemo and radiation more selective (kill cancer cells better) without damaging the surrounding good cells. And how to build your immune system up to help fight the cancer and help through the pain and nausea and all the side effects that go with treatment.

It is laced throughout with short stories of patients with various types of cancer and how they survived, even end stage cancers, and how they did it. There are also stories of those who didn't make it and some reasons as to why they didn't.

There are recipes and menus, a section on foods and supplements that help fight cancer, lists of doctors who can help with nutrition, a list of special cancer clinics, places to order organic foods, how to deal with side effects (both allopathic and naturopathic treatments), a list rating foods from the best to the worst, what causes cancer, what feeds cancer - SUGAR, and LOTS of ENCOURAGEMENT which is so important and helpful.
Dr. Quillan has treated 3,000 cancer patients.Beating Cancer with Nutrition, book with CD

5-0 out of 5 stars Clear good sense and vitalital information.
I have been battling cancer for two years now and unfortunately have been diagnosed with a recurrence.I have stayed with main stream treatments but was really dissapointed with the lack of advice or even interest in nutrition amongst the hospital staff. After a long search I chose this book to be my guide. the premis is simple: a high percentage of cancer patients die from malnutrition; poor nutrition causes cancer and good nutrition can not only support treatment but enhance the immune system and adversly affect cancer cell growth.

The book is really clearly laid out. There is a sysnopsis of the principals in the first chapter and then very detailed information, heavily backed up by research.the diet itself is easy to follow and the recipes excellent.

I strongly recommend this book. Since using it I have felt very fit and full of energy and haven't suffered side effects from the chemo drugs. This book is good sense, well explained and, I believe, potentially life saving.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Nutrition Education for Cancer patients and the Healthy Individuals!
Dr. Quillin's book was an eye opening and educational experience in nutrition.I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in July 2007.It was difficult in deciding where to start and Beating Cancer with Nutrition was where I started. The Audio CD is a easy high point overview but one must read the book from cover to cover to get all the fine detail. The book help me understand the basic fundamental of good nutrition.I learned so much about ingredients and what to avoid when purchasing processed food.Dr. Quillin mentioned many things that are unhealthy for our bodies and how the bodies cannot process man made chemicals, preservatives and substitutes. The useful receipes are used in some of our meals and I keep the book close by the kitchen for reference. The whole family eat healthy now that we've acquired the valuable knowledge.

During my journey to remission, use the nutrition philosphy written and spoken (Audio CD) by Dr. Quillin and still practice them today in a healthier diet.I'm CANCER FREE three years later, well informed on nutrition and will practice what I've learned forever.

I recommend Dr. Patrick Quillin's book for everyone who is assisting a cancer patient in their journey to remission as well as for those who would like a better insight to healthier nutrition. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cancer fighting kitchen book
This book has some nice receipes that can help you strengthen your immune system and help in preventing cancer. It has tdishes that are compatible for chemotherapy side effects like nausea, etc.I love this bookand the food tastes good for the one making the meals also! This book has many cooling perspectives to help cook for a cancer patient.

5-0 out of 5 stars The info is better than the recipes, but recipes are good too!!!
Book is very well written and organized with interesting tid bits of health advice and information. The beginning of the book outlines ingredients including veggies and herbs that have cancer fighting properties. This is the main reason why I decided to buy this book, for this info. The recipes are good too, but there are some misses, but I think it is due to my personal tastes with respect to seasoning and herbs.

5-0 out of 5 stars beautifull cookbook with interesting recepies
This was reccomended as a book of very healthy recepies, and that is why I ordered it.
Have passed it on to many people who are interested in eating well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource
I was diagnosed with breast cancer this September and have just started chemo treatments.I ordered this book because I know that nutrition is one of the key cornerstones to treatement. This book has been very inspiring in terms of being able to eat really healthy, yet tasty meals. We made a batch of the magic mineral broth for me to have after my first chemo session and it is really, really tasty.

I really like the format where there is advice sprinkled throughout the recipes. There is also advise from other cancer patients on things that worked for them.Although I haven't had any change in taste yet ---- I really liked that there was a section discussing why taste buds change during treatment and things that you can do to help alleviate the symptom. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not well edited
This isn't bad for a first book about anti-cancer foods and supplements, but it could have been better.A recap of some sort would be helpful.Presentation is a little sloppy; although I don't know if the fault should be attributed to the author or to the editor.

For instance, on page 119, in recommending healthy oils as substitues for butter, the copy reads: "Substitute butter for one of these nutritious oils, which contain less than 2 grams of saturated fat per tablespoon."Although the point is to encourage healthy oils over butter, the sentence says just the opposite.A good editor would have caught this and corrected the sentence to read something like, "Instead of using butter, substitute one of these nutritious oils, which contain less than 2 grams..."

Page 217 includes a list of US cities with the cleanest air."Billings, MO" is included; and although there is a Billings in Missouri, I believe the Billings in question is the one in Montana (MT), not Missouri (MO).

There are other similar errors, which in themselves are not significant but make me wonder if they reflect the validity of the substance of the book itself.Ihope the information offered is accurate and well-researched by the author, and wish she had paid more attention to its presentation. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Alternative Cancer Treatment
It's interesting to know that another country has approved of a nutritional cancer treatment back in the 80's.It would be good if the US would give people more options and treatments.Recommend reading.

4-0 out of 5 stars Using the 8 vital supplements.
The weakest part of the book is the mixed units given on page 74 for thesupplements. These range from tablespoons through milligrams tointernational units. How are all these related? What are the equivalents? In particular the doses for Iodine, Iron and Sulfur on page 50 do not makesense in the UK.Pharmasists can supply Iron Sulphate but Iodene andSulfur are not available. This rather spoils an otherwise excellent book.

5-0 out of 5 stars life saving
I cannot say how much the content of this book has changed our lives. The diet is simple and very nutritious, but what are amazing are the statistics, the lives it has improved and/or saved. Amongst those this diethas saved, is my father who religiously has followed it and blesses Dr.Moerman. A definite recommendation not just to those with the monsterdisease, but to all who would like to improve their chances of not gettingit.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very effective diet and simple to follow.
This book does a very good job of providing anyone with cancer a highly effective, but very simple diet to build the immune system and effectively fight the disease. Dr. Moerman has over 60 years of results with animals and humans with this diet. In addition to the easy to follow diet, his recommendations on nutritional supplements are concise, simple, and again based on years of research and hundreds of patients. I highly recommend this diet for people who are sick as well as those who just want to stay healthy.Dr. Brian Bussanich ... Read more

this is a great book from a great man.

the cancer protocol is just part of the book.
there is many other great remedies in the book.

including water treatments, infertility,Stuttering, back pain and more.

3-0 out of 5 stars Some errors.
Dr. Breuss' basis for his belief in this cure and how he formulated it are pretty unclear.I find his narratives rambling.I am intrigued by his claim of 40,00 success stories using his method but have my grave doubts about the validity due to his unsupported statements and a few obvious errors. One error can be fourn in his explanation of the use of Sage Tea which he says is a powerful healing agent known as far back as the Romans.he says that to use it internally, one must boil the sage for at least three minutes in water. This, he says, is to boil away the oils which should not be taken by drinking. He also says that the long boiling will bring out the ENZYMES in the herb.Huh??If you boil anything at 212 degrees for three minutes there are surely NO enzymes left. Maybe he had an unclear view of what enzymes are or maybe, as one health consultant told me, it is the result of a badly translated text from the German, I cannot know. But this much is clear, that for whatever reason I cannot also have confidence in the text within this book.So how can I rely on the instructions or the claims of cures?I am taking these writings in this book with a 'grain of salt' and using what I can of the juice formulas and the tea recommendations but i will have some reserve about my overall trust in the Breuss Cancer Cure. Too bad

When my husband was diagnosed with a grade 2 and 3 brain cancer last year, we searched high and low for alternative therapies while undergoing the conventional western medicine treatments. This book was the only book thatdid not suggest anything radical like stop chemotherapy all together. Dr.Dries introduces the concept of phytochemicals and how the amount ofsunlight food absorb can contribute to our health. The book comes with atable of what to eat and in what priority that helps when you photocopy itand paste it on your fridge or take with you to go grocery shopping. Threemonths of raw fruit and vegetalbes is a tough thing to do especially inwinter, but my husband lost his steroids induced puffiness in one week andafter a massive rash attack that was probably the result of detoxing, hegradually lost weight and it stopped at his weight when he was 17. Thanksto this book, he is now healthy enough to swim up to 4 km a day, bowls 5games a week, and does all the house work with no problems. 5-0 out of 5 stars great book!
The stretching exercises in this book helped me restore full range of motion in my shoulders and arms in a very short period of time after surgery.I had been doing the exercises in the little pamphlet given to me by the surgeon, but those exercises did not seem to be producing the results I wanted.I could barely lift my arms over my head to wash my hair.It was immediately obvious from the first stretches I did, that those from the book were exactly what I needed.I like that the book has somewhat different exercises and stretches for different types of breast surgery and alternative ways of accomplishing them based on an individual's abilities and limitations. It also has really good explanations and descriptions (and illustrations) of the various surgeries.I highly recommended the book to my surgeon and occupational therapist. If you've had breast surgery, get this book and get moving.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Breast Cancer Survior's Fitness Plan
This is the most informative book I found on physicaly recovering from mastectomy. It is full of information on excercises you can do after to help you recover faster with less complications.I wish I had found it before my surgery. You are sent home with instructions on what not to do but nothing on what you can do. I also bought a copy for my surgeon. The more you know the better you will do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent primer for cancer patients
My wife is currently undergoing treatment and this excellent text provides much valuable information to assist her in her recovery. This is a higly recommended "how to" book filled with practical fitness ideas and approaches, written by people who know whereof they speak. Buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful information and exercises
I received this book 2 days after I ordered it and did not use fast delivery.I had my mastectomy 9/11 and I was not told about exercising until last week. Then I could not get into the therapy program until Dec 23.I have really been hurting and lots of fluid.I finally went on line and learned about exercising before I ordered this book.In the last hour - I have learned so much. Also the exercise pictures really shows you what to do.By the time I get to therapy - I hope to be doing well.I rate this book an 5 plus.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book
This is a great book that gives a lot of accurate information. I found that if you already have breast cancer, a lot of this information is duplicate from what you can get at any good cancer center for free, but it is all combined into one book rather than tons of brochures. It's a good reference and when everyone around you has an opinion, you can go to this book for the right answers. Would make a great gift for a newly diagnosed patient. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for Anyone Starting Chemo
I sent this book to my parents (they are both in their 80s) before my dad started his first chemo treatment. I think it not only gave them good ideas, it gave them some peace of mind too. I think they felt more prepared for whatever was to come. Well worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cancer cook book
This book was a godsend.Nothing tasted right. This book helped find "tasty" alternatives and provided an understanding of how to cope.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely helpful both professionally and personally!!!
I am a speech pathologist in an acute rehabilitation hospital and I would greatly recommend this cookbook.I work with patients who have a variety of medical issues, but recently we've seen an increase the number of patients with brain tumors, or with a history of cancer. Because I work with the patient's swallowing safety I often discuss their nutrition and eating habits.I had one patient in particular whose sense of smell and taste had been altered due to their chemo treatment a year prior and he had been losing weight steadily since then.I got in contact with a dietitian with the American Cancer Society who referred me to this book. I bought it immediately because I knew it answered many questions that I had been asked by patients in the past and it also gave such great suggestions for different side effects including decreased taste sensation.I showed this recipe book to that patient and his wife and made a copy of one of the recipes (The Blueberry-Peach Crisp) for them to try. The wife made it and brought it in for the patient the next day. His wife altered it as the book suggested with increased cinnamon and he was able to taste it and enjoyed it.The patient's wife ordered this book that night.

On a more personal note, my father went through chemo and radiation and I have seen first hand how difficult it is for the patient and the caregiver to manage eating and maintaining nutrition while undergoing such a harsh treatment which takes away any natural want/yearn for food.I searched many resources at that time to attempt to help him, but nothing I found was organized in such a useful fashion as this cookbook. This book is organized into sections of suggested recipes for the various side effects that the patient may be experiencing including: nausea, diarrhea, constipation, soar mouth/swallowing deficits, taste alterations and unintentional weight loss. It also gives suggestions for dining out and a list of kitchen staples with a variety of foods to keep in your pantry to help prepare little snacks or full meals depending on the patient's wants.

As you can tell, I can't say enough about this book. It has been a great resource for me professionally and personally (My father now has a copy himself) and I definitely recommend it for people during treatment or for anyone continuing to deal with any of the symptoms after treatment. You will find not only the recipes helpful, but the added nutritional information and recommendations for aiding nutrition during/after treatment are priceless! This cookbook is truly fantastic! ... Read more
