This exam, CLSC, is no longer offered or honered by Cisco for certification. BCMSN took it's place.

5-0 out of 5 stars The 1 book to purhcase for the CLSC exam
I was given this book to help prepare for my CCNP v2 certificaiton.Itwas orginially written for the V1 CLSC exam but the material in it wellcovers the BCMSN exam as well.A must read.If you could only purhcase 1study aid for a cisco certificaiton this would be a top pick.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must Have
I have some lammle's book, but i always prefer cisco for it's easiness to read, systematically, and their closeness to the course objective.

Therefor, If you're going to take CLSC I would remommend youto use this book. This book will ensure high probability of passing ratheryou read other book.

Going to take it in 2 more days, with highConfident.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad... so far
I've read through 8 of the 15 chapters, and I like what I see so far.It maps each exam objective out, plus gives you some 'background' information that is not actually needed for the test, yet helps you understand the 'bigpicture'.So far, I would recommend buying this book for the exam, as Icannot forsee the rest of the chapters taking a nosedive south.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Cisco Documentation Cut and Paste!
Sorry to dispute all the other reviewers, but I spend some time with the Cisco Documentation and found that this book is almost entirely a "cut and paste" effort from Cisco Documentation.I found entire areas thatwere merely "pasted" into the book and others (e.g. Chapter 7& 8 on VLANs) where the material was simply repeated from the previouschapter word-for-word.

No effort was made by this author to edit orexplain the Cisco concepts.I always thought a book like this wouldcontain explanatory material - but alas it was not to be!

Since I haveyet to take the test, I can't comment on the substance of the material --but only on the fact that I could have obtained the same material --verbatim -- from Cisco's site. Too bad! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars internet website reference bible
a good resource to help you narrow down your internew job search effectively

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource Book
As Career Planning Host for bellaonline.com, I was interested to read this book as part of my research for my series on the online job search. What I discovered was that it was not a book to "read" as much as a wonderful resource which would reduce my internet research time by hours!

This is not a book of how to's - it has a few sections discussing career planning and eresumes, but refers you to websites for more information. You can find information on how to write eresumes and submit online on my site, or all over the internet.

What this book DOES have is links - separated by position type, state, even country. The legwork is done for you - and it allows you to target your job search to whatever industry or area you want - look up the lists of links for your target, and submit from there.

I note, however, that because of the dynamics of the internet, that resources like this can never stay current.Admittedly, since publication, some websites have merged or gone, but from my research, the majority of them were current and easy to find.

A valuable resource for targetting your job search.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great resource!
This is NOT a book on cyber resumes---there are whole tomes devoted to that topic. It IS a comprehensively researched listing of sites from the common to the highly specialized. I use this as a text in my graduate classto train counselors who work in one-stop career centers and in collegeplacement offices. It's a great resource for sites and ideas on how to bestuse the Internet for finding a job: clear, concise and free of hype. Highlyrecommended.

1-0 out of 5 stars Major disappointment
This is the first Amazon book I've ever returned, but I did so in a heartbeat. Despite the long list of online sites - as advertised - there was no useful information on preparing a resume for online submission, despite a whole "chapter" on the subject (6 pages, actually). There is not a single reference to the use of keywords in your resume, strategies for tailoring a resume for companies who insist on online /electronic submission, beyond the trivial "use an asterisk for abullet"...

If you're only looking for sites to submit your resumeto, I suppose this would be useful. But if you want guidance as to how tohelp your resume rise to the top of the electronic stack, this book is awaste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly Revolutionize Your Job Searching Skills!
The Internet has truly revolutionized the job searching process. Tasks that took so much time to accomplish such as preparing, typing, and mailing resumes and cover letters has been reduced to a single days' work. Jobseekers can now quickly access the latest employment opportunities and jobfinding assistance at the click of a mouse. The Guide to Internet JobSearching opens the door to quick and efficient use of one's time to obtainthe employment information they are in need of.

The latest editionof this popular book offers a wealth of information on a variety ofresources available to all job seekers today. Information provided includeslocal, state-by-state, government, and international resource listings andopportunities, public services, non-profits, entry-level and internships, online career resources, specific career path information, and reviews ofsome of the more popular job listing and recruiting Websites.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sloppy
Here's part of the description of this book in the summary above:

"This book is not filled with theoretical babble but practical and useful information, knowledge and experience!"

After reading this book, I have to say that it isn't worth the money that I spent on it. In fact, if they were to re-describe this book, it should say "This book IS filled with theoretical babble, and has no practical and useful information, nor does it contain knowledge or experience!"

First off, the editor did an awful job in getting rid of the typos. Check out page 26. It has a sentence printed on top of a sentence. Plus, there's several blank squares here and there that might have been from the use of a font the printing factory didn't have in their software program.

I found it ironic how the book explains that a web designer needs a good layout for their pages, when this book doesn't even have that in itself! Some of the title descriptions end up at the very bottom of certain pages, and then you flip to the next page to read it. This book should also be titled "How You Should Not Format a Book & Learn How to Space Correctly". Nothing is aligned right in this book. It's nuts!

Second, this book is probably shorter than the actual 200 some pages that it contains. Why? Well, the author doesn't have very much to say on every sub-topic he writes about, therefore, he puts a space between all of his paragraphs. Example:

"Your Online Portfolio

Make your portfolio cool. Blah blah blah blah.
More blah blah blah.

If you want your portfolio noticed, make sure you do this and do that.
Blah blah blah blah."

Yes, folks. That's how the entire book is. I understand that it's a guide, but to put space between every single paragraph for every sub-topic is ridiculous. Clearly, it was a way to make this book 200 plus pages.

Towards the end of this book are forms that you could fill out or just write on a separate sheet of paper. I found that to be unnecessary, and the font was so small to even read on some of those forms. After these couple of pages is an index page? Really? Do you need an index page in a book like this? I don't think so.

As for the information in the book, most of it is basic knowledge, such as how to look for a job, what a web designer's job description is, what to include in your resume, and the do's and don't s of basic design layout, such as not using one font for your entire page, to creating an easy layout for your visitors. If you don't know anything about that, then perhaps this book is for you. For me, I was hoping it was going to give an in depth look at what was expected when you work as a web designer.

Save your money. You can find better information just surfing the web and reading forums online. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The absolutely worst book I have ever read
This book is worthy of negative five stars. In short, its awful.

Amazon's summary states:
This book is not filled with theoretical babble but practical and useful information, knowledge and experience!

OK, I agree this book is not filled with theoretical babble. It's just filled with babble, dribble, and repetitive restatements of self evident truths. In short, a complete waste of money.

You want examples?

How about this on page 74:
"Give yourself the chance to enhance your skills in document creation by securing yourself a reference book that can help you widen your knowledge set about how to create an effective and well delivered document. There are so many books that you can have either offline or online. All you need to do is to read its primary contents and evaluate the feedback that the book has received."

The problem is that the book provides no lists of useful reference books, no list of useful websites, no list of useful forums to join, despite talking about them in the abstract. You would be better served by not reading this book and just search on google for Business Objects.

If you do an Amazon search on the author, you will see he is prolific in writing IT career guides.I wouldn't be surprised if this book were created by simply doing a mass replace of Oracle with Business Objects for one of his manuscripts.

This book was not even worth the cost of shipping! The level of writing is embarrassing, countless typos and misprints, and the "tips" are pretty much standard knowledge. I'm starting school in the fall for Web Development and I was hoping this book might provide some interesting and useful tips on entering/working in the industry but it's just one long string of general statements and incomplete sentences. I absolutely would not buy this book if I had it to do over again. ... Read more

NetWare and IntranetWare are powerful network operatingsystems representing vast universes of information for interestedminds to absorb. Novell's CNE Study Guide: IntranetWare/NetWare4.11 carefully and thoroughly presents almost every aspect ofthese two systems. If you can't find it here, it's the kind of thingthat was meant to be learned by experience.

Plunging right into thetheory of network operating systems and the fundamentals ofadministration, Clarke details the workings of Novell DirectoryServices (NDS) by explaining its design and implementation. Inexplaining its implementation, the author walks through an excellentscenario, detailing the mechanics of getting clients, servers, printers, and applications ready for NDS. He also goes into depth ontraining.

The author explains how to install IntranetWare, payingspecial attention to migrating from NetWare. He also coversIntranetWare administration, security, optimization, and printing andscatters practice questions throughout the book. In addition, thosestudying for the exam will love the appendix, which correlates examelements to specific passages in the book.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Worst Technical Manual I Have Seen To Date
Just finished a LAN Class, where I had to buy books on NT, Cisco, MS-DOS and Novell. Got through all the other books with no problem. Then my instructor saved the best (worst) for last. I get nauseated trying to learn anything from the text in this book. I can stand to read about two pages in a row at any given time and then I have to close it and take a break. Today is my last day of class and I haven't finished this book yet and don't believe I will. The only good thing about it is that it is very thick and dense and will make a nice backstop when I go to the pistol range and shoot it full of holes.

2-0 out of 5 stars Save trees and readers, please.
All knowledge this book offers is well hidden behind all those jokes and "zen" things. It's a good book for people who want to train how to distinguish between useful and useless information.

Very lowinformation/page ratio.

1-0 out of 5 stars So full of fluff, it takes work to wade through it!
Like many other reviewers here, I found all the irrelevant junk Mr Clarke filled his pages with to be distracting and irritating. The only reason I bought it was that I picked it up... at a discount book store. I still think I wasted my money. And I should have known better because his CNAStudy Guide is just as bad.

The cover says it comes with THE Clarke Test(emphasis mine) and the text in the book describes the full version. Butthe software you get is actually nothing more than a demo. You have to readthe fine print hidden around the edge of the CD to know this beforepurchasing.

I think this book is a waste of time and a rip-off. I woulddemand my money back from Mr. Clarke himself if I thought I could get it.Whatever you do, never buy any books by this man.

1-0 out of 5 stars Never have so many trees died for so little reason
I owe Mr Clarke a debt of gratitude. It is thanks to his writing style that I am an MCSE and not a CNA or CNE.The book is thick, which isappropriate--anyone who could get through this thing must needs be prettythick himself. The jokes and cartoons are annoying without being in theleast bit diverting.NetWare itself is hardly the most exciting OS on themarket, but this is ridiculous!Don't waste your money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book if you know how to use it!
Mr. Clarke definitely knows his stuff when it comes to intranetware, but the book is about 600 pages of fluff. If you are looking to study the key points, use appendix B.It summarizes all the key points to the NovellCourse Objectives and tells you what pages within the book to read.Istrictly read these pages and bypassed all the 'fluff'.Using this methodyou should have no problem knocking out one exam a week. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Going for your CCDP?
The CID book by CCIE Matthew H. Birner is a good reference for the CID test however, it lacks any information on the Cisco WAN products you need to know about.Specifically the BPX, AXIS (redesigned the MGX 8220) IPX, and IGX Carrier class units. It is a good source of SNA information that you will need both on-the-job and to pass the test.As for use on the job, I didn't think that this book covered the actual design procedure, documentation, and fact gathering checklists anywhere near as welll as the CiscoPress CCDA Exam Certification Guide did.

I would recommend to anyone wishing to pursue a CCDP, to wait for the new release of the CiscoPress CID Exam Certification Guide by Mike Crane and Reggie Terrell. It is due out in mid-September and should have all of the new and updated information needed to pass the test.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but missing vital information
This book is good for maybe 80% of the CID exam.It is rather light on VPN and only MENTIONS Stratacom! It's a good book for what's included, but you will need a second source to cover all the exam objectives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!
This book is a must have and one that I reference all the time.

4-0 out of 5 stars IN THE "MUST HAVE" CATEGORY
I found this book to be an excellenent reference text, and one that I expect to refer to for a few years to come.

I have only 2 criticisms to make: (i) As it is the Cisco book designed for the certification exam, it should have a CD ROM with practice exams, like the older certification books had (ACRC, CLSC, etc); (ii) It was scanty on the Stratacom section, although it did cite useful documentation on the subject and provide URL's to such.

I found the explanations and diagrams to be thorough, and picked up additional information when rereading topics. As mentioned above, URL's to additional information were spread throughout the book, and the URL's that I checked took me to treasure troves of information. Appendix E consists of a design and implementation guide for OSPF, direct from the Cisco website, and this is the best description and reference material of OSPF that I have ever come across.

The exam is now 100 questions over 2 hours with a pass mark of 755, and I used this book and some Boson study tests to prepare. Subsequently, I didn't find any surprises on the exam.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a Very Good Book.
I have relied on Cisco Press books to obtain my CCNP and CCDP. In general, I have found them to be well thought out, solid texts. Unfortunately, this is not the case with the CID. The course material and test are not on par with the rest of the Cisco certification courses. Comparing the table of contents with the requirements listed for the test on Cisco's webpage reveals that entire sections such as security and VPN that are required for the test have been omitted from the text. I used this book and the CID by Sybex to pass the test. Between the two of them they cover enough material to give one a reasonable shot at the test. The passing score is now 75 out of 100 questions, and the questions on the test are probably the most vague of all tests - including the CCIE written exam. Let's go Cisco - get with the program! ... Product Description
CCNP-WS courses are gaining in popularity as companies recognize the need for qualified, certified WAN professionals. This Coursebook is an excellent resource that supplements instructor-led training classes and offers an alternative self-paced study option to those not attending the recommended courses. The book contains updated course material for the four courses recommended for CCNP-WS preparation: 640-419 Multiband Switch and Service Configuration (MSSC); 640-425 BPX Switch and Service Configuration (BSSC); 640-411 MGX ATM Concentrator Configuration (MACC); and 640-459 Cisco WAN Manager Installation and Operation (CWMIO). It contains five parts, with Parts II through V devoted to the four courses. Review questions and answers appear at the end of each major part. An appendix lists commands for the MSSC, BSSC, MACC, and CWMIO.Amazon.com Review
Switching, as this authoritative book proves, is not just for local area networks (LANs) anymore. If you know what you're doing--and especially if you have Cisco WAN Switching Professional Reference by your elbow--you can set up a wide area network (WAN) without necessarily involving a router. By designing a network around Cisco Systems' IGX, BPX, or MGX families of WAN switching products, you can provide your users with the kind of reliable, high-speed intersite connectivity they need to run IP telephony, IP video, and demanding client-server applications. That's what this book is about. It's an in-depth look at the Cisco way of implementing WAN switching, complete with plenty of command-line entry-and-response listings and details on the relative merits of different Cisco products.

Editor Tracy Thorpe has divided her work into three parts--one each for the IGX, BPX, and MGX lines. Each section defines the capabilities of its equipment before going into detail on its command-line interface (which is not the same as that of Cisco routers). In this section you'll find explicit how-to information on the stuff you have to understand, like configuring ports, setting up network trunks, configuring different kinds of interface cards, and setting up various signaling protocols. Because this will be unfamiliar to pretty much everyone--it's not too similar to Cisco router configuration--the elementary stuff is challenging enough. But Thorpe explains it clearly and patiently, and digs into design work and advanced configuration strategies with clarity and apparent enthusiasm. Each chapter concludes with a series of multiple-choice questions like those you'd find on a Cisco professional certification exam. --David Wall

Topics covered: This book is designed for use as a textbook in three Cisco Systems classes--Multiband Switch and Service Configuration (MSSC), BPX Switch and Service Configuration (BSSC), and MGX ATM Concentrator Configuration (MACC)--and is the definitive encyclopedia on nonrouted connectivity between geographically separate networks via Cisco gear. IGX, BPX, and MGX equipment families are all covered in depth, from the most elemental administrative functions to high-level design work. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WAN Switching - learn something new every day!
Over the past 14 years I have always been told that with a wan you must have routers, but all that is changing with this book. What the author does is take a very complex subject and break it down into three sections over 1275 pages.

With the information included you are able to either teach or learn about three type of Wan switching, MSSC, BSSC and MACC. With the information included you'll be able to work with and configure as well as administrate the networks.

In Section 1 the author works with IGX concepts such as message formats, commands, voice and data, frame relay, ATM and troubleshooting. While some of the concepts and ideas are still a little unclear I have begun to learn a whole new way of switching.

Section 2 is BPX networking and hardware with the use of SONET networks, routing with BPX environment as well as troubleshooting. Section 3 captures the MGX series with commands, SONET, ways to make connection and configure them and finally Voice and IP together.

Each chapter does have review questions and from what I have seen nothing comes even close to matching the information included in this book. The author does a great job of documenting the information and overall the typos seem minimal. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Windows 95 exam 07-064 has met its match.
What separate technicians apart from each other are usually the certifications they hold. What is need to get that certification? Time, money, studying and most of all the studymaterial. The MCSE TrainingGuide for Windows 95 is one book that will make getting the MCPeasier.

800 plus pages of information that take apart the exam 70-064objective by objective. I thought working with Windows 95 for five years Iknew enough to pass the exam, this book showed me things I had never seenbefore.

From planning to installing and configuring to integration andmonitoring to the optimization and troubleshooting, this book breaks downwhat you need to know in a format that even the beginner can understand.

The book comes with Test Prep Software to give you a look at what typesof questions you'll get on the exam. Also you have flash cards and a studysystem to help you better prepare for the test. Overall this book makespassing the exam easier and financial independence quicker.

5-0 out of 5 stars A thoughtful and balanced treatment of Windows 95
The 70-64 Windows 95 exam is tricky, but this book provides a very good foundation for the success. It does cover much more than is actually on the exam, and as such serves as a reference for the OS. I do think you willneed to supplement study with the Windows 95 resource kit, but all theobjectives on the exam are covered in the book. While the sample questionsare sometimes lame (and really do not mimic the exam) there is an appendixwhich provides GREAT last minute study tips. The section on troubleshootingis fantastic, written by a person who obviously has spent time in the fieldwrestling with the same kind of problems administrators see every day. Allin all, it is well worth the money I spent.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's a good book
I have studied this book for two hours avery day for two years.I'm not joking, it's a class for school.I went to take the exam and I passed but I felt that they did not cover enough Networking stuff. They shouldemphasize more in this part.I also used the Windows 95 Resource Kit tostudy and that hepled to clear out the missing networking piecies in mypuzzle.

3-0 out of 5 stars This book used with transcenders and prayers should be okay
I used this book to study for my windows 95 70 064 exams.I scored 734(cut off 632).This book by the nature of its presentation gave me an excellent comprehension of Windows 95.When I started final exam revision withtransenders I did well but also found the book did not treat fax, windowsmessaging and dial-up networking well.

1-0 out of 5 stars A REAL LOSER
I consider the money spent on this text a complete waste. Concepts are introduced without explnation. Some material is never covered at all (you discover this fact when you attempt the section reviews questions whichoften ask questions about material the book never covers).I was hoping fora good text to accompany Sybex's Win95 exam prep. This certainly was notthe choice. Buyer beware... ... Read more
