Book helpful but more needed
The book may tell you how to become an engineer but it does not point to available jobs. There are many websites that claim to offer jobs but it often remains difficult. At, http://www.engineringcrossing.com you can find jobs dealing with this specific career field. At http://www.engineeringcrossing.com/ , they only have jobs from employer websites and offer far more jobs than other job boards.

The job hunting strategies are informative but dry reading
Great Jobs for Engineering Majors is a good book to pick-up when you are finishing your degree in engineering. The first half covers searching for a job and the second half covers career paths such as careers in industry, consulting, government, education, and non-technical paths. It aids you in assessing your talents and skills, exploring your options, targeting your ideal career, and following through to get the job you really want.

I only read the first edition but hopefully there is additional text to explain how to search for jobs using the Internet and various email strategies in this edition. That was the only thing missing from the 1st edition. ... Read more

If you have ever played a team sport, you understand that teamwork is integral to the success of the team. A vital component of engineering success, especially in the sports engineering industry, is excellent communication skills. As explained by Jennifer Ocif, a performance footwear engineer at Reebok International Ltd., "Communication is a life skill that constantly needs attention and improvement. Because the sports industry is so large, I can't cover every sport in this book. Some sports may be left out entirely and some descriptions may leave you craving more information. If you find yourself in the craving-more-information category, use that energy to your benefit. Contact the manufacturers listed to inquire about summer work or co-op opportunities. Tour facilities and begin talking to engineers for tips on getting through school and for gathering information about what they do now. Take apart your favorite piece of equipment to figure out how it works. Then, you'll truly begin to think and work like a sports engineer. Don't be afraid to fail a few times, either.

I read this book for a research project I was doing at school. This gave excellent insight into the sports engineering industry. I had no idea how many opportunities there are in sports for engineers. The list of Web sites in the "Getting Started" chapter was very helpful and provided me with many outlets in the industry.
