Nice...but okay

Good book

Too many common things
I have expected that this book will be filled with a lot of information regarding area of education. Instead of it it discusses many evident things that can be found in any book about career and its planning. I don't know if it's allowed to mention other books in such reviews, but I find "What is the color of your parachute" much more useful, even that it's not targeted particularly to the education field.

Please do not misunderstand me - this book is fine as a first career planning book. But if you already know something and wish to know some special details about learning - do not expect that this book will provide them to you. ... Read more

A thorough run down of singing and the business
This was a good solid book on technique and the business side of opera. I was very impressed with it. I have purchased several other similar books on this topic but this was by far the best.

Fun paranormal mystery
The third book in the series, this is the best and funniest yet, as 14-year-old Gilda wangles a way to accompany her talented pianist friend, Wendy, to Oxford, England, for a virtuoso competition. Having read up on Brit-speak and English customs, the ever-confident Gilda is all set to have a great time in Oxford and solve any mysteries that call for her skills as a psychic investigator.

Soon, eerie things start happening, such as ominous tarot cards appearing to Wendy and other participants, strange coincidences involving the number 9 and Alice in Wonderland, and the normally rational, intelligent Wendy's experiencing of an apparent haunting by a mysterious melody and the ghost of a boy.

This paranormal mystery has fast pacing, a complex, intriguing plot, excellent characters, and plenty of humor. This was the best book in the series yet! I was a little disappointed in the first book, liked the second book, and completely fell in love with this one! A little creepy but very enthralling, spunky Gilda Joyce sets out once again to show the world what she can do, this time as a page-turner for her best friend, Wendy Choy, in a worldwide piano competition in Oxford, England. I loved Gilda's love affair with Julian, a hot British boy, and was sad but happy for Gilda when it was over, since it was obvious that in breaking up with him, she knew what was best for her.
My only piece of advice: go sprint to the library or a book store, check out or buy this book, and read it until your eyes hurt.

A Fun read!!!!
My daughter and I are members of a Mother-Daughter book club.Gilda Joyce The Ghost Sonata was assigned for October's reading.My daughter and I read the book together and the book had us hooked.The book is funny, and suspenseful.Every time I thought I could guess what was next, something else happened.I got a few goose bumps while reading this book.

The story takes place in Oxford, a great setting for ghost!! The description of the scenes made the reader feel as if you were there. Gilda is a confident, corky dressing, investigator.Gilda manages to get into rather odd situations throughout the book, and that just adds to the strength of her character.Jennifer Allison has a skillful way of developing the characters as well as weaving in details to create a suspenseful adventure in The Ghost Sonata.

At our book club meeting the girls were just delighted when recounting scenes in the book.Even us Moms had a lot of laughs while discussing Gilda's character and adventures in the story.Many of us decided we are going to read the series so we can have more "Gilda". It is important to note that the book stood fine on it's own with out reading the books in order of the series.I would recommend this book, and I am looking forward to reading the series; it is cleverly written and is quite entertaining.

Exactly what I needed to read!
I liked the first two Gilda Joyce books, but I love this one!

Wendy, Gilda's best friend, playsa starring role in "The Ghost Sonata", and I find her thoroughly charming. Her no-nonsense, feet-planted-firmly-on-the-floor style is the perfect match for Gilda's flightiness.

The friendship of the two girls reminds me why it is important to have good friends. I enjoyed my time with Gilda and Wendy very much. I even stayed up way too late to finish the book! ... Read more

Good Information
I have read a number of "pre-law" primers and this one really stands out.It's strength is it's unique approach: the author paints the "reality" picture and attempts to dissuade potential law students from taking the leap unless they are extraordinarily committed.This reality-check approach makes this book stand out from nearly all books of the genre.

On the negative side, the book is a bit short -- it limits its scope to the "why apply" up through the actual application process, but doesn't discuss financial aid, how to prepare briefs and outlines, etc.Additionally, the author's humor is often funny, but the schmaltzy Yiddish clichés are a bit overwrought.

Bottom line: If you are considering applying to law school, I encourage you to read this book FIRST.If you still want to go to law school, then I would recommend reading additional primers to learn the entire scope of preparing for law school.

An excellent resource
This book is a fantastic resource to those of us who are interested in a career in law.It explains the many facets of law that you can delve into and removes many misconceptions and illusions that most people have about law school.Much of it appears to be geared towards scaring you out of law school, but the advice is sound and does a good job at making sure that this is a decision you truly want to make.I would recommend this to anyone who is even remotely interested in law school.

Please read this book
This is a thoughtful book that every potential law school applicant should read. As a law student, I was stunned by how few (and I mean FEW) people had put any thought at all into their decision to attend. I left my law practice to retain my sanity. For what it's worth, I urge anyone thinking of going to law school to read this book very carefully. There are very good reasons for becoming a lawyer, though making a lot of money is not one of them. Law school isn't that hard (try medical school . . .), but being a lawyer is very demanding indeed. It takes the right kind of person, and the right kind of motivation, to make it worthwhile. This book is an excellent start to deciding if you're one of those people.

Quick Read - Very Informative and Practical
I'm 41 and seriously considering law school.This book was very useful in figuring out what qualities make a good law student and lawyer, the types of work available in lawyering, and practical tips for admissions.I read this in one sitting, had borrowed it from the library, and am considering purchasing.Highly recommend to someone wondering whether to pursue that law degree.Reading it was as painless as a conversation with a friend.

It made a big impact on the course of my life . . .
Before reading Ron Coleman's pre-law companion, I was keen on going to law school right after completing my undergraduate degree.

However, through the exercise of reading Coleman's pre-law companion, the reader is forced to question why (s)he wants to go to law school, if indeed (s)he would be happy being a lawyer, and if there aren't any alternatives/paths (s)he would like to pursue before going to law school since realistically, there would be no time for such pursuits afterwards. Well, this last point really hit home for me. I often debated whether I should pursue graduate school in computer science, and Coleman's pre-law companion motivated me to explore this avenue further.

Well, Coleman's advice could not have been better (as well as more timely). Now I won't ever think back and ask myself, why didn't I seriously pursue graduate school in computer science. And if I do end up at law school, I know I'll be better prepared and more certain about being a lawyer.

I thought Ron Coleman's pre-law companion was so appropriate and helpful that I left it with the pre-law advisor at my undergraduate institution. I sincerely hope that others will benefit from it as much as I did. By the way, if in fact you are extremely keen on going to law school, Coleman also offers excellent advice on how to strengthen your application as well as what to realistically expect while going through the entire application process.
