Product Description
Gene Autry was the first of the wildly popular "singing cowboys" of the thirties and forties and the man who carried the flag for "western" in "country and western," popularizing the genre's marriage of seemingly disparate western and hillbilly influences. Beyond his highly successful recording career, his on-screen persona influenced an entire generation of American boys. Autry, an accomplished investor and businessman, was a longtime owner of Major League Baseball's Angels franchise. This meticulously researched biography takes the reader from Gene Autry's childhood in Oklahoma through his phenomenally successful career as a singer and actor, and covers his later triumphs in business and sports. Of particular interest is the book's detailed day-to-day treatment of Autry's performing career, with a wealth of information on each recording session and film shoot, including key personnel (e.g., songwriters, engineers, directors, crew) and interesting anecdotes. The work includes information from the author's own interviews with Autry's contemporaries. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good work -- but a little shallow
This biography of the Singing Cowboy, the second complete one ever written, joins Holly George-Warren's "Public Cowboy No. 1," which also came out this year. As such they have some obvious similarities -- and also some marked differences.
I discussed George-Warren's book in another Amazon review. Cusic's biography is well written and researched, although I did spot a few factual errors having to do with the dates movies were released and the like. Minor things, but they hurt an author's credibility.
Nevertheless, Cusic does an excellent job of giving us a brisk trip through Gene Autry's remarkable life, providing anecdotes from friends, family and associates from his childhood in Texas and Oklahoma to his final days as a revered American icon. Especially fascinating are some lengthy direct quotes from Autry himself as recorded by Johnny Bond, one of the performers on his radio program, apparently from the manuscript he prepared from material he collected about his boss over the years, but never actually turned into a book. These quotes, while doing nothing to tarnish "The Cowboy's" legacy, provide a more candid, unselfconscious view of him than do his many oft-quoted statements given in numerous interviews. I've read extensively about Gene Autry for years, and I had never seen these quotes before.
Up to a point, Cusic presents Autry warts and all -- after all we all have our faults, even living legends. But for whatever reason, he steers almost entirely clear of the two aspects of Gene Autry's personality that shocked many fans who had already read "Public Cowboy No. 1:" His progressively more destructive drinking, and his numerous extramarital liaisons with women he encountered during his career, especially actress Gail Davis. I can't imagine that Cusic discovered no evidence of those less-admirable things about Gene Autry in his numerous interviews for his book; perhaps he couln't bear the thought of bringing them forth. But a definitive biography must be honest and candid.
The lack of any photographs in "Gene Autry: His Life and Career," also is a minus.
But having said all that, the book is still well worth a purchase and a read, as it gives a good portrait not only of Autry's life, but also of his character, with the exceptions I mentioned above. His fabled generosity is dealt with at length, showing that he was indeed the "guy in the white hat" in real life as well as on the screen.
The final chapters especially demonstrate Cusic's considerable affection and respect for his subject -- and why Autry deserved every bit of his astounding success.

Product Description
Achieving the American Dream became inextricably linked with career/business success after World War II, as an increasingly consumerist America learned to define the dream through possessions and status. Not surprisingly, Hollywood films in the postwar years reflected the country's preoccupation with work and career success, offering both dramatic and comedic visions of the career quest and its effects on personal fulfillment, family relations, women's roles, and the creation (or destruction) of just and caring communities. In this book, Jack Boozer argues that the career/business film achieved such variety and prominence in the years between 1945 and 2001 that it should be considered a legitimate film genre. Analyzing numerous well-known films from the entire period, he defines the genre as one in which a protagonist strives for career success that often proves to be either elusive despite hard work, or unfulfilling despite material rewards and status. Boozer also explores several distinct subgenres of the career movie--the corporate executive films of the 1950s; the career struggles of (single, married, and/or parenting) women; the entrepreneurial film as it is also embodied in texts about immigrants and racial and ethnic minorities and business-oriented femmes fatales; the explosion of promotionalism and the corporatization of employment; and, finally, the blurring of work and private life in the brave new world of the televirtuality film. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Engaging and Real, If Quite Opinionated
Billups really loves the technical side of video, and his book is a great way to learn about colorspace and various image formats. It is presented in a conversational, personal style that I found quite engaging.

The book emphasizes technical and economic planning, NOT how to relate ideas or write a script. Not a problem, but the title may be misleading.

Billups gets hung up on what he considers to be amateur: MiniDV's 4:1:1 colorspace, "fake 16:9", "electronic focus rings", etc.A look at Billups' website conveys this same preoccupation with colorspace and camera functionality.Points to consider, yes, but too closely associated with our projects' success.

With the advent of cheap 24p HDV (HVR-V1U), DVCPRO-HD (HVX200) or XDCAM (PWM-EX1), I must disagree with Billups that no camera above MiniDV is worth buying.

If you are looking for an engaging way to sort out technical information, this book comes recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read it, then read it again, then read a different book.
I liked this book. After getting a degree in film school, then going to a post production school you learn what books and what information is real, is for beginners, and is for the business people looking for a quick buck thinking they can run Hollywood over with their copycat movies.

This book has some guts, although not 100% correct on some issues, but well worth the read.

As Charles Henry Blackledge says in his review--some i agree with and others I do not...

Chuck writes---------------------------------------------------------------
If you're looking for a book that will give you practical, nuts and bolts, down to brass tacks advice on how to make a quality, professional looking DV movie on an ultra-low budget then "Digital Moviemaking" by Scott Billups is NOT the book you're looking for. This book was obviously written by a tech-nerd for other tech-nerds.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Chuck!! I find that of you are making your own movie, one NEEDS to BE a tech-nerd. Self movie creation and publication is not for the creative types, you have to be all the above. We are not talking that you can be one and hire the rest, this is not what the book is about.

Yes I agree the title should be changed to fit the information, but why make the title ruin what information is in there?

Chuck writes----------------------------------------------------------------
If you are an aspiring filmmaker who has a good movie idea and want to know how to shoot it on an ultra-low budget then don't waste your money buying this book.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you ARE an aspiring moviemaker (we are shooting it on video; therefore, we are MOVIEMAKERS not filmmakies) you should NEVER use any home movie camera or home movie media (miniDV, any if them)--as you so call it low budget. People should only use these for practice, never for publication or projection. Seriousness shows what you will do with your time, money, and craft.

Of course one could have a wonderful, exciting, and entertaining story done on VHS, but why would one waste their efforts putting it on it. IT DOES NOT SHOW how serious or their commitment to their craft. Save up, borrow, or beg for the better stuff.

Chuck writes-----------------------------------------------------------------
I recommend instead reading "Digital Filmmaking 101" by Dale Newton and John Gaspard which is a much better book that explains in layman's terms how to shoot a quality, professional looking movie on digital video.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

I also have this book and found it informative as well.

With any information, news, gossip, and so forth, why do people read it from one source and call it truth or real? Read more than one paper, watch more than one news program, look at more than one weather station, and read more than one book on moviemaking--the more you do this better informed you will be.

3-0 out of 5 stars A great source on color space, but that's about it
Billup's book is creative, fun read. But looking back on it, it's not one of those essential film books. The book's greatest strength is explaining color space and color depth, which are Billup's profession as he works on the technical side of HD production. He explores these rather dry issues in a fun and witty way.And he also explores working in Hollywood in a new, positive way.But beyond that, the book gives a very, very, very broad look at every other field of digital moviemaking, making it seem in the end too darn general to be effective.A better book for breaking into digitial filmmaking:$30 Film Schoolby Michael Dean.It does a much better job of covering all the bases and is just as fun.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it!

The majority of this book is technical information and history and should instead be entitled:"Hi-Definition Video Moviemaking" as this is what Billups spends the majority of the book discussing. There is precious little in this book that a low-budget filmmaker will find of use. Billups and co. are apparently of the opinion that it's a waste of time shooting on anything other than HD video or 35mm film and seem to have nothing but contempt for Independent, low-budget filmmakers.

If you are an aspiring filmmaker who has a good movie idea and want to know how to shoot it on an ultra-low budget then don't waste your money buying this book. I recommend instead reading "Digital Filmmaking 101" by Dale Newton and John Gaspard which is a much better book that explains in layman's terms how to shoot a quality, professional looking movie on digital video. It was written by 2 guys who have made good low-budget films and have a lot more respect for and understanding of independent, low-budget filmmakers than Scott Billups.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fun, down-to-earth read, held back by some minor errors.
I got this book a matter of days ago, and upon finishing the introduction, I hated the author with a passion. He had me furious with his no-nonsense, kick-in-the-crotch attitude that went against everything I believed. Or so I thought. After a good night's sleep, I realized that most of what he had to say was correct, and I found my way around to agreeing with most of his points. I decided to give the rest of it a chance, and I'm glad I did, because although Billups continues telling it like he thinks it is (he's right pretty much all of the time, to his credit), he manages to inject a sense of humor into the proceedings, and keep the book light hearted enough so as not to scare you away. This helps tremendously in making him seem more like a working professional, and not a pompous, self-important windbag.

I haven't got much to say about the GOOD parts of the book; they are numerous indeed, and I learned a good deal from them regardless of the fact that I don't see myself doing this for a living.

No, what struck me most about this book was the liberal sprinkling of spelling, grammatic, conceptual, and structural errors. Never before have I encountered such nonsense in a FIRST edition book, let alone a second. What am I talking about? Well, the spelling errors are usually minor, and easily overlooked, but the grammar is another thing entirely. "Orientated" instead of "oriented", "bandpass" instead of "bandwidth", things like that. "Orientated", I suppose, is technically correct (though it makes one look about as ridiculous as "irregardless" does), and "bandpass" may very well be the proper term in certain situations, but it's like the difference between "GNU/Linux" and "Linux": NO ONE uses the "proper" term, NO ONE is going to be confused, and as such it is completely unnecessary. Insisting on the techie version serves only to make you look like a pretentious tightwad.

When it comes to conceptual errors, I mean the way he, in one situation when discussing 3D modeling/rendering, confuses alpha channels with bump maps. Alpha channels control the transparency of a material, bump maps make the bumps. Again, even if what he said was correct (I'm no expert, maybe bump maps really are alpha channels in a stricter sense), the fact remains that NO ONE speaks this way, no manuals define things this way, nor do special interest technical books or training videos. If you ask someone to put an image with the letter H in the alpha channel of a material, and place that material on a surface, you're going to get a big H-shaped hole in your surface, not an H-shaped bump on top of it.

He also flip-flops between describing image dimensions as width by height and describing them as height by width. Even though the vast majority uses the width by height description, something I agree and feel comfortable with, I would hardly mind him using the other if he were the least bit consistent. He's back and forth throughout the course of the text, and it can be quite disorienting (not "disorientating", you'll note).

Then we have the more basic structural errors. The only way to adequately demonstrate this phenomenon is to provide a fictional example (note that he is NEVER this blatant, and doesn't even touch on this subject):

"The default lens package included with Camera X is absolutely wonderful, but the lens they give you along with Camera X is pretty darn great."

See what I mean? That he repeats himself, saying the SAME thing about the SAME product in the course of one sentence for no reason is disturbing enough; more troubling is his use of "but" when he should be using "and". If you're going to tack a positive comment about an object on to an existing comment about the same object that's already positive, you use "and".

There's also a tendency to use common words and phrases over and over and over again. I do this all the time (my parenthetic comments in this review, for example), but in a professionally published work? You'd think somebody would do a "Count Instances" in their word processor.

Things like that contribute to an overall sense of "wha...?" when reading this book. At first I attributed this stuff to an absolutely abysmal proofreader, but firstly, I own several other books from MWP which sound far better. Secondly, as we reach the end of this book, we start to see more and more quotes--eventually interviews, and entire guest-written chapters--from others in the field, typically people the author has worked with and known for some time. None of their writing exhibits this behavior.

In short, this book is like certain types of music and movies: the content may be great, but the way it's put together makes you a bit nauseous. You don't know exactly why, but sounds with certain frequencies and/or images with certain kinds of movement make you sick, no matter how moving the song/film may very well be.

It IS worth full price, it IS worth reading several times over, and you WILL get something out of it whether you want this hobby to become a career or not. The errors are not world-ending, and the overall idea gets through loud and clear.

They're big enough for someone like me, though, to feel that something, however small, is missing. ... Read more

Product Description
One of the most gifted actors of the 1930s and 1940s, John Garfield is too little remembered today. His gritty, true-to-life performances in 35 films, including Body and Soul, which was one of the first movies to raise the ugly specter of race relations in the United States, and in 16 Broadway productions were all highly acclaimed.

Garfield is best recalled, by some, for having been targeted by the House Un-American Activities Committee for his liberal political beliefs. Garfield was one of many Hollywood stars blacklisted by Senator Joseph McCarthy and his cronies. "Acting is my life," he said in a speech in 1939. Deprived of that opportunity, he died in 1952. This generously illustrated work examines the actor’s personal and professional life, recounting a bygone era of Hollywood and American history. ... Read more

Product Description
In this book I document the theatre career of a theatre actress in Germany, Ursula Dinkgräfe, who was well known and highly appreciated within the theatre scene of that country for the forty-year duration of her career from 1947 to 1987, but who did not achieve film and TV stardom. This book thus adds to the wider context of star biographies, and presents a hitherto unwritten chapter of German 20th century theatre history. The history of theatre is not only the history of a few stars, but also the history of very, very many, and indeed, very good, actors who never come to the attention of the wider public. ... A life in the movies has been an American dream for a century. Many people dream of becoming Hollywood professionals, but either aim too high (by trying to produce their own feature film) or too low (by hanging around restaurants frequented by movie stars) and end up frustrated. Wouldn't it be great if someone who knew what to do, someone who had achieved acclaim in the field, would walk us through the steps to success? At last, here is a book by a seasoned movie and television professional, Emmy winner Sandra Gordon, that is filled with practical, yet highly effective ways to build a career in entertainment. Gordon calls upon her own experience working on the television series PARTY OF FIVE, the movie RUDY and many more. There are many books that teach job-seekers how to write resumes or ace interviews, but not many books like ACTION! Uniquely designed for individuals who are interested in a career in the entertainment industry, whether they are recent college graduates or middle-aged career changers, ACTION! takes the formula out of the job-hunting book to the next step, telling its readers not only how to write their resumes, but where to send them, how to keep their jobs once they are hired, and how to advance in their career. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars WHERE was this book when i graduated college 4 years ago!
This book is an excellent over-view of the television & film world. If you've got your production goals set higher than local broadcast news, than I HIGHLY recommend this book. There's a great section on putting together your production resume, great real-world advice from Sandra & her production colleagues, detailed descriptions of what every position on a Film & TV set does, valuable info on how to work in various markets (Chicago, New York, LA, etc). I bought the book a few months ago and had the fortunate chance of meeting the author, and she is genuinely a wonderful woman who truly wants to help those interested in getting into & succeeding in "the business".

This book is also an easy & quick read, I read most of the book on a flight out to LA from Chicago. "Action! Establishing your Career..." is an ESSENTIAL read if you plan on moving out to LA and you don't have many production contacts there...I'm looking at you recent college grads! I've even recommended this book to friends who are actors on their way out to the coasts so they are educated about sets, crews, etiquette, etc.

"Action!" is a much easier & faster read than "The Independent Film Producer's Survival Guide" (which is itself a great book, but more of a legal resource, basically saves you from asking your entertainment lawyer dumb questions).

I'm not a newbie to production and this isn't a fake review, I'm a freelance Commercial Producer who is also very active in Chicago independent film; having served as producer on 4 features in the past two years, negotiated distribution deals for features, and I remain active in the scene via a Chicago based non-profit indie-sponsorship company. I find that I continue to pull "Action! Establishing your Career" off my bookshelf to use as a reference on projects.

5-0 out of 5 stars A handy and practical guide
Action!: Establishing Your Career In Film & Television Production by Emmy award winning Sandra R. Gordon is a handy and practical guide specifically written for people who are interested in a career in one or more segments of the entertainment industry. From internship tips, to the ins and outs of the production department, to crafting a production resume, to the value of adopting a solid work ethic, Action! is a first-rate and highly readable resource intended and enthusiastically recommended for job seekers of all backgrounds seeking a position with film and/or television production careers. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Ideas
This is great for those who want to know about the different careers in electronic media BEFORE they go into college. It's quite helpful while you're there, but it's most effective if it could be read beforehand that way, you'll know what you want to do and how to go about getting there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extensive in Providing Career Preparation
This book fills a niche unlike any other book of its kind in that it provides students with comprehensive information that can enable them to see that career options in electronic media extend far beyond traditional television and radio outlets. Professor Orlik has brought together a wealth of sources from myriad backgrounds covering everything from one-person advertising agencies to executives with mega-media giants.

In the concluding chapter, ten experts in the field offer ten tips for breaking into the field. That's 100 in total and the convincing thing about it is that several of these experts offer the same advice. Have a passion for the work and never give up is the sum of what they advise.

Electronic media is a field that is changing even more rapidly than a lot of other segments of society. Professor Orlik describes those changes in detail throughout this book. Another common thread that runs through every section is ethical responsibility. For broadcasters to be true professionals, ethics must be uppermost in the minds of decision-makers doing their daily tasks.

Professor Orlik is a master communicator himself. Several of the contributors talk about the role of media personnel being that of the storyteller. In this career guidance book, Orlik tells a pretty inspiring story himself, one of passion for a worthwhile life contribution. This book will fuel your passion for the field and point you in the right direction to network, build a resume tape, and gain experience while enjoying the process. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic - consider it a working text book!
This is a fantastic and entertaining read, written by someone who has actually been in the business for 30 years. There's a lot of information jammed into some-200 pages, so I would recommend taking Elaine's advice: get through it once to familiarize yourself with voice over, and then read it again to practice what's inside!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good information but partially obsolete....
I liked this book and the author's easy-going narrative.Elaine Clark is clearly talented and well respected in the voice over field. That being said, the book clearly needs an update. When I bought the "Second Edition" I thought I would be getting more up-to-date info. (This may be partially my fault as I guess I did not scrutinize the publishing date before I clicked the "Buy" button.)There is half a chapter on "casette duplication" and "cassette artwork"! The section detailing salary expectations is also 8 -10 years behind. We don't want to work that cheap! ;)If there isn't a more recent update, then certain infomation should be completely omitted from the book.Reading the above mentioned sections (and some others) made me wonder what other antiquated advice I may take to heart and then make a mistake as a direct result. If you can buy this book at a discount and keep the above caveats in mind, there is much useful information for your tool belt.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tough Great Read Which Needs Revision
I enjoyed this book very much. Its best features are that it breaks down the types of work and gives many chances to practice sample reads - followed or preceded by an analysis of the motivation, problem, tone, audience, age "behind" the copy. The only thing that hampers this book from being a a great work today is that it was published 9 years ago, looks like it was initially written in 1995 and does not appear to ever be updated. As an example the sections dealing with DAT demo box design have little application, and some of the practice exercises refer to either products or character exchanges which seem a bit dated today. Some information might wish to be compared with more recently authored work. No one needs insight about Wang Computers in the age of the Mac.One can only hope this work is quickly updated. It used to be one of the bibles to many. It should be that way again! Perhaps the print size might be increased as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars An All-In-One Guide
OK, as a disclaimer I must say I have studied with Elaine for 2 years at her studio in San Francisco, and I have worked on voice jobs for her as well. However, I bought this book prior to discovering her voice over school and I was blown away by the depth of information included in it. When I found out I could study directly from Elaine, I jumped at the chance, and I have not been disappointed.

The number one thing that most new voice over students don't understand is that a "good voice" is not the most important thing in voice acting. It is the acting. In this book you learn how to apply Elaine's methods for bringing emotion and honesty into any kind of read. Whether you are selling cleaning products on TV, narrating a corporate report, or providing the voice for a wacky robot toy, you must be grounded in reality. This book will show you tips and techniques to achieve the level of "real" that is desired by agents, directors and clients.

There is a huge diversity of voice jobs out there and Elaine covers them all. Television promos, commercials, narration, audio books, radio plays, toys, animation, etc - all are given specific information and hands on techniques. While I must say that nothing can equal the work a student does in one-on-one sessions where you get immediate feedback, this book goes a long way to providing you with a springboard for study. If you read and apply the lessons - by practicing, recording and critiquing - you can get ahead of anyone who thinks they can go it alone on natural talent. Voice over is a landscape of techniques, and this book is the Atlas of that sometimes strange land.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read Resource BEFORE you start
Fantastic book.I'm quite big on improving my chances in business by going into something fully informed. This book will definitely increase your chances for success.

It's great for beginners because it:

1) Starts off with the basics
2) Has loads of practice copy to build your skills and confidence
3) Gives pictoral examples of what resume, cover letters, demos, etc. should look like so you don't look like a fop to a professional firm
4) Works as a great study guide not just a bunch of words and thoughts

Very well done by the author - thank you for such a great resource.I've already applied the skills learned on the job! ... Read more

Wonderful book from Sue Gossett, Empire Publising and the forword by Neil Summers who was a 30 year professional stuntman sums it up ..."Audie Murphy was not an actor trying to be a man...Audie was a man who was an actor...we are sorely lacking for men in this country and there is hardly a day goes by that I don't think of Audie and how he impressed me and how kind he was to me...Audie Leon Murphy was the real thing and I am very proud to have known him"...Audie was a very private person person and modest who never disclosed his inner feelings...he always felt he was blessed with an over abundance of luck...well, we will never forget you as long as books and films present themselves you'll always be here in our hearts...just the way it should be!

3-0 out of 5 stars Praise only!
Sue Gossett tells very detailed about each and every one of the Murphy movies and that's fine, but the book is merely a praise of Audie Murphy and not a journalistic effort. Don't expect to find any criticism of any of the films here - and they were certainly not all good movies! Anyway, if you want to know about the plots, dates of shooting and so on in cronological order, then the book is OK. If you want a more realistic description of the movies, look for "The Last of the Cowboy Heroes".

4-0 out of 5 stars A great way to remember Audie Murphy
I live in Melbourne, Australia. It is impossible to find anything on Audie Murphy in this country. When I saw this book advertised I just had to have a copy. I think it has been well presented with a very obvious show of respect for a man who deserves our respect. There are little snippets of background stories which are good, but I would have loved to have read more about Audie the person behind the scenes. The positive and the not-so-positive. It is through these stories and memories that we can get to know him. Nevertheless, the book has a special place in my library, and recently they have been showing a few more of his movies on pay T.V. I simply pull out the book and read the reviews. Thank you Sue Gossett. I am not disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is just great!
I have been a fan of AUDIE MURPHY, since I saw the movie "THE DUEL AT SILVER CREEK" in the late fifties at a theater in Denmark, it was not shown here until then, but living here, and collecting filmstars at thattime was a very tough hobby, because we did not see much material. However,I was very happy to learn from a friend, that a book was finally writtenabout him, and I must say, that it has everything. A completefilm-biography, with a very good picture from each one of them, togetherwith his efforts under WW2, and what followed of honours etc. Besides allthat, the author has even included poems and songs written by Audie, justamazing! In all, a great book, told by a very good author. Can only berecommended to all AUDIE MURPHY fans!

5-0 out of 5 stars A "must have" for any Audie Murphy fan
This book is great!..It has everything, from his biography to complete reviews of each of his films (with photos), to his military awards and even a few selections from his poetry. All photos are of high quality. ... Read more

Lee Marvin did not receive his first starring film role until he was 40, but in three short years—following the successes of Cat Ballou (for which he won the Academy Award as Best Actor), The Professionals and especially The Dirty Dozen—he was the most popular film actor in America. Marvin was a fascinating man, a loving husband and father, and one of the most natural, effective actors of his time. This is a comprehensive reference of the Oscar-winning actor’s work. It includes biographical information on Marvin, an analysis of each of his 64 movies, chapters on his two television shows (M Squad and Lawbreaker), a listing of his television appearances, and a complete filmography (which includes video availability). 3-0 out of 5 stars Marvin the Works
An interesting book to read, but very negative in parts. The best thing to do is see Marvin's films then read about it in the book, so you've already made your own mind up. The book brings across the authors own likes and dislikes about Marvin's films and career,i felt that it was a bit to influenced by his own likes and dislikes. At the end of the day you either like Lee Marvin and his film's or you don't. Personally i love the bloke and enjoy his film's and the many characters that he played. Marvin maybe dead but he'll never be forgotten with the work he left behind for us all to enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reader Review of Lee Marin: His Films and Career
Robert Lentz has done an outstanding job in profiling the film andtelevision career of one of America's most beloved tough guys.Thisinsightful look into Marvin's tenure as an actor is a must read for anyoneinterested in films from the 1950s through the 1980s.

The detail used todescribe each of Marvin's movies and television programs is excellent andthe author deserves to be commended for his thorough research and love ofthe subject. In the fickle world of Hollywood stardom, it is refreshing toseem a tribute paid to some of the movie world's older names.
