5-0 out of 5 stars A Whole World of Supply Chain Opportunity I Didn't Know Was There
I was sceptical when I first noticed this book because I don't consider liquids an important part of the supply chain in our company. This book is a real eye-opener!First Klatch peels back the covers that are "hiding" liquids in so many businesses like ours, and then goes on to show how much more effectively we can handle these products than what we are doing now.
I really liked the "real world" approach in the book.Rather than throwing some theoretical method out there, it shows how we can improve to different levels in our handling of the liquid supply chain, we can go as far as we want at any particular time using the methods described in the book.
Finally, the book understands that there is a real human reader on the other end and uses a lot of examples and stories from business, science, and history to make its point.I'll never think of "silo thinking" the same way again! ... Read more

Product Description
This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A175223. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: Recurring issues for Navy and DoD analysts are decisions on the upgrade, purchase, and retirement of equipment with high capital cost and long useful life. Since the PHOENIX model was developed in the late eighties a number of theses addressing different equipment procurement and modernization problems have been written at the Naval Postgraduate School. Those models have a common thread of purpose data, and methods that suggest the possibility of building a common model subsuming those previous efforts. The model developed is a mixed- integer linear program written in GAMS, and its most appealing characteristic is the spreadsheet application that allows the user to enter data, solve the model, analyze its output, enter user feedback in the process of finding a new solution, and also to manage a collection of candidate solutions. With this approach difficulties are hidden from the user who interacts only with the spreadsheet and does not have to build his own model. The combination of a generic model and the visual programming capability of the spreadsheet provides the user with a tool to accomplish more complete, complex and sophisticated analysis. ...
