I bought this highly recommended book to assist me with the many practical ideas that all caregivers crave. The book has easily surpassed my expectations and lived up to all the high praise and accolades from my friends. As a mother who also home schools two children, however, this book is a rich source of hands-on activities as well as inspiration for enriching family bonds. 5-0 out of 5 stars Sleep Tight!
"Indigo Dreams" by Lori Lite of Stress Free Kids, is a special CD for children 4-9 who are having trouble unwinding at night. It is beautifully done, with a direct approach to the child. So many materials in this area become sweet, almost sickly sweet, but Indigo Dreams is warm, charming, and really loving, while presenting the techniques in an intriguing and creative way. There are four selections on this CD, in addition to the complete sound track. The first is also called "Indigo Dreams" and is a series of affirmations, accompanied by gentle music. It is especially appropriate for younger children."Boy and a Bear" deals with easy breathing, "Boy and a Turtle" uses colors, and "The Goodnight Caterpillar" considers Stress and Release, and Progressive Relaxation. Here, the child is used as a teacher, which can be a very positive experience for some children. This CD gets my highest recommendation.

3-0 out of 5 stars Indigo Dreams
I bought this CD in hopes to help my 8 year old daughter fall asleep easier.
She has trouble letting her mind relax; also to help drown out the other noises that she hears that keep her awake(normal house creaking). I have to say that the first 4 tracks are narrated (kinda creepy). My daughter did not like that. I thought when I bought it that it was all relaxing music. Luckily track 5 is 28 minutes of relaxing un-narrated music. She listens to it all night, with #5 on repeat. This CD did not solve our issues, but it does help.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Relaxation CD for Kids
I highly recommend this cd to all parents. My 11 y/o daughter has been listening to this cd, as well as Garden of Wellness and Ocean Dreams. After a busy day, she really needs a cd that is calming and relaxing. This is perfect for that. She will also tell you, that she really enjoys the cds.If I do not have her "cd" ready at bedtime, she will make sure to ask! Once again, I recommend all the cds in this series.

Product Description
Using music as a medium for communication and development between teacher and pupil, rather than as a subject to be learned, this book responds to the problems of presenting music to children with special needs. The book functions on a number of different levels: it provides a simple and accessible programme of work, allowing the teacher to choose from an array of different lessons and it breaks down the recommendations of the National Curriculum into a more practical structure for working with children with special needs. Drawing on many years of experience, it offers advice for managing the lessons, and suggests ways in which lessons may be modified to address the needs of individual children, or particular groups. Also included are useful record sheets to help teachers to gauge the response of the pupils to the music course. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars music lessons for elementary students and high level special needs
Music lessons for special needs, is essentially a book for music teachers who work with high functioning children with special needs. I found the book to be full of excellent lessons laid out step by step. I really liked how T.M. Perry did not overwhelm me with theory, but instead she kept the book full of practical lesson plans! The downside of this book was that it assumed all of your students would be able to understand verbal communication. I work with autistic children and these lessons would never work with them. These lessons are excellent for pre-k through5th grade in my opinion. This is a great book full of wonderful music lessons:-). However, if you work with medically disabled children, or autistic kids I don't reccomend this.Overall I give this a 9 out of 10. ;-) ... Product Description
In his groundbreaking book, The Mozart Effect®, Don Campbell revealed the enormous healing powers of classical music. Now he shows you how to help the children in your life experience the same benefits.

You don't have to be an expert on classical music to use this wise and compassionate book. Focusing each chapter on a particular age -- from prenatal through age ten -- Don Campbell explains how music is the perfect tool to improve children's language, movement, and social skills at home, school, and play. He presents dynamic, inventive ways to invigorate a child's imagination, and supplies simple exercises, musical menus, and entertaining games that will improve your child's memory. At once practical and profound, The Mozart Effect® for Children is an invaluable resource for all parents and educators who want to help their children imagine, achieve, and grow in every aspect of their lives.

Amazon.com Review
Don Campbell's reputation runs the gamut from serious educator bent on improving the health and intelligence of his audience to clever marketer, making a fast buck from specially trademarked pseudoscience. In The Mozart Effect for Children, Campbell explains early on why Mozart's music is thought to have such amazing powers, and while he cites no statistics or studies, his lyrical explanations of Mozart's simplicity and elegance will have many reader's heads nodding in agreement--it's difficult to disagree with "his music is at once deeply mysterious and accessible, and above all, without guile". A few pages are devoted to descriptions of studies done by French specialist Dr. Alfred Tomatis, and "Spotlight on Specialist" pages throughout the book are an attempt to add a more clearly scientific feel. Still, most of what passes for science in this book is anecdotal and will not make a satisfying read for those looking for original research.

Each chapter is devoted to a particular age, from prenatal to mid-elementary school, and parents and educators can find excellent musical menus, practical suggestions, and entertaining games to play at the end of every chapter. The menus include suggestions for appropriate times to play the various pieces, as well as a brief description of the type of music, helpful in case you're not immediately familiar with "Adagio from the Divertimento" or "Concertante from the Serenade No. 9". Games range from simple variations on pat-a-cake to rhythmic chanting designed to improve memory skills, and parents will enjoy playing at least as much as their children will. Perhaps you child's IQ will magically improve from listening to Mozart, perhaps it won't. At worst, Campbell opens up a world of music-related learning for your family that can be both enriching and entertaining. --Jill Lightner ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Contrary to Scientific Data
The scientific evidence upon which the "Mozart Effect" is based was an experiment in 1993 using 79 college students who listened to Mozart before taking a test. The results of this meager experiment showed that for about ten minutes students scored about 10 points higher after listening to the music. These were results that even the head of the experiment, Professor Rauscher cautioned against exaggerating. While intriguing, the experiment in no way suggested that the mind of a child could in any way be molded into a little Einstein through listening to music. In fact, the results of this study were officially refuted in 1999 when researchers examined the findings of 67 studies and over 4500 participants and found that the original results could not be duplicated.Of course it was too late, the media, child development and educational toy and book industry ran with the idea and has promoted this propaganda ever since. The reason: this like any other "get smart quick" scheme targets well intentioned parents and is a "cash cow" for the industry.Raising little geniuses is to parents as rapid effortless weight loss is to the overweight, an easy way to get amazing results. However these books, toys, etc. are no more valid than the myriad of Fad diets that arise every year across the US.Instead, I recommend another far more relevant book to read first, "Einstein Never Used Flash Cards".I was fortunate enough to accidentally discover this book after reading numerous others.I wish I had found it first as I am now convinced that several of the previous books I read were works of fiction. To be fair, I must say that I have not read this particular book, I am simply familiar with the concept and themes upon which it is based. Still, Mozart like all great music is always wonderful to listen to, just don't expect it to turn your kids into rocket scientists.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Mom
Great Book! I read this book over and over and each time I'm facinated at the information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful
This was a helpful book. I appreciated the real examples of how to incorporate music into my child's life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nurturing through Music
This book introduces a wonderful way to spend more time nurturing your child through musical activities. I was a little skeptical about the effects it would have, but found that even simple ryhmes can calm my children down. It is not a "fast food" approach. It is about using music and singing to motivate and comfort your child. We sing and ryhme all day- from diaper changes to car trips.

As an educator I find the ideas in this book to be a great way for every parent to prepare their child for school. It may not make your child more "intelligent", but I believe the author is correct in saying that your child with be a better learner.

1-0 out of 5 stars More feel-good fantasies...
No matter how many experiments are made that disproof the Mozart Effect there will always be parents who want a fast easy way of controlling or making their kids more "intelligent". Someday someone is going to market a sugar pill to do that, and make millions.

It's the fast-food approach to life. And you as a parent are going to lose for it.

The old fashion way, giving of your time and caring by sharing and personally teaching is no longer in vogue. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 101 Rhythm Instruments for Young Children
I love this book - it iseasy to reference with activities to bring musical instruments easily inot hte preschool classroom. This will be a grab and go for lesson plans!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Resource for Non-Music Specialist
As the owner of a prechool music program I am always looking for new ideas to incorporate into my curriculum. This book gave me a jumping off place for several new ideas. However, I think the greatest beneficiaries of this book will be the non-music specialist preschool teacher andparents of preschoolers. As is common with many preschool curriculums, this book relies heavily upon familiar song tunes, which makes learning the music for each ativity very quick and easy. Each activity is succinctly described in easy to understand language and, with only one or two exceptions, limits materials needed to the instruments and occassionaly a CD player. If you want activites that teach fundamental music skills, this book does that in limited fashion (fast/slow, piano/forte, stady beat), but only experientially;Children are not introduced to any musical terminology and teachers are not cautioned that children often have a difficult time keeping a steady beat, thus some frustration may ensue with some of the rhythm stick activities. For a more complete review of this book, visit my website:[...]

4-0 out of 5 stars Easily recommended
So many kids music compilations, hard to choose, but I got lucky with this one.Has some GREAT selections that I haven't seen elsewhere, as well as some stinkers (as they all do).

My kids LOVE dancing to the "chicken dance' when I fire up the keyboard, as well as "never smile at a crocodile', and several others.Haven't gone through the whole book yet looking for pieces I can actually play at full speed (because some are just beyond my very limited ability), but there are enough easy ones to make this comp. worth it if you ask me.

Highly recommended, 4 stars easy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good song book for older children
These songs are "complete" and not for little children.I didn't recognize all of the songs either. A good book for an older child.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value and a nice assortment of familiar songs.
With the exception of a few pieces with a large amount of flats, I found the music easy to play.I don't consider myself great and really read music to play. The binding makes the book hard to keep open and found myself using binder clips to hold the pages. The music is a large size.A few songs were not familiar to my kids such as Popeye the Sailor Man.Overall, I would recommend this book to a friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Really Big Book of Children's Songs
Provides an excellent compilation of easy to learn favorites.Simple arrangements and large staff make this a must have for any novice pianist or singer.Includes Disney classics and childhood standards such as "Be Kind to Your Web Footed Friends," "Monster Mash," the "Theme from Seasame Street" and many more. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Nature Book for Kids and Little Kids
This book is great for teaching many concepts. You could use it to teach sequencing, the water cycle, appreciation of nature, word choice in writing...and I'm sure I will think of more later. The pictures are captivating and the music of the CD makes it a book that can be enjoyed by small children, as well as those who are a little older.

5-0 out of 5 stars Start their Emotional Intelligence Young
As an Emotional Intelligence instructor (EQ) and coach, I habitually find adults whose emotional life was nourished in an intelligent way when they were kids.My adult learning course, and the one I use to train other coaches, includes the arts, particularly music, as we know that it effects the emotions, and supports the immune system.I purchased this book in the hopes of including it on my online store of EQ products and have been very pleased with it.I also recommend it in my Club Vivo Per Lei/I Live for Music. For adults who are emotionally mature enough not to "mind" learning in a delightful and easy way, why not start with a book and recording like this and then move on to The Teaching Company.Opera is an acquired taste because we aren't brought up on it, just as classical music seems to have slipped away in recent decades, but is coming back in a big way. Why? Because we need it.For all the reason we intuitively know.It soothes the savage beast.I took my 8 year old friend to her first opera the other day - The Barber of Seville is a great starter. She laughed ... I laughed ... and that opera is very old. This is a great book for Christmas giving and I recommend it highly. Then take your little one to Barber of Seville and spend the money to get seats right up front.(Very important, the immediacy of it.)Put your "arts" budget for the kids right after food, clothing, shelter and education (agitate for music appreciation in your schools, and I don't mean rap), and you'll have an emotionally intelligent child, which won't over-ride IQ, but without it, IQ isn't much good! Ask Turandot, wink wink. She had to "learn" his name was Love, and he taught her with a kidd, not his intellect. ... Read more

Product Description
"Work songs, love songs, ballads and blues, lullabyies, spirituals, protest

songs, and sheer nonsense make up this entertaining collection of 62

traditional and contemporary favorites. The exuberant illustrations manage to

be both familiar and dramatic and range in tone from comic exaggeration to

understatement and unashamed sentiment. Informal notes at the head of each song

give something about history, origin, performance, and possibilities for

variation. The notes also express the sense of connection with ordinary

people's lives that is at the heart of this collection."--Booklist
