God has blessed you with writing talent, and you would like to use that talent to sow faith seeds. What better place to start than with children who are just beginning or have taken their first faltering steps on their own faith journeys? Or what of the special ministry to teens who may be at a crossroads in their faith lives? Writing for Christian children covers the gamut of ages, from cradle to college-bound.

In this book, we will explore the various types of writing in this specialized ministry and discuss the vast mission field of writing for the Christian children's market.

So, are you ready? Then dig out your notebook, sharpen your pencil, and crank up your computer; we'll begin by studying the first great commandment of writing for this special market....

5-0 out of 5 stars At last! A much needed book!
This is such a user-friendly guide for writing for the Christian children's market. I wish I'd had such a book when I was starting out! Half my 35 published books are in the Christian market, and I've taught writing for children for 27 years. I would and do highly recommend this book. In practical (and sometimes humorous) ways, Kathleen covers the process of writing for this specialized market---from setting up your writing space to finding a home for your manuscript in the marketplace. Excellent book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Winner by Kathleen Muldoon
Two words came to mind as I read Kathleen's book: accessible and practical. She writes in an easy-to-understand style, and you can tell that she really cares about authors and children. These fine qualities make for a book that writers can really use--and her advice is worth a second reading. Listen to what she says; she writes from years of experience. Kathleen always gives sufficient information to make her point without boring readers with mountains of detail. Beginning authors will find this book especially helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Encouraging Guidance
The conversational tone and encouraging voice in Kathleen M. Muldoon's book, Sowing Seeds: Writing for the Christian Children's Market help give writers confidence that they, too, can experience success in this niche market. With Scriptures to encourage the writer's soul, short writing exercises to apply what's been taught, and clear explanations of the unique nuances found in this market, Sowing Seeds provides gentle guidance for writers hoping to experience success in the Christian children's market. -Nancy I. 5-0 out of 5 stars get past the cover and read!!!
I have read some of the other reviews, and I have to agree that the cover did not thrill me, but the content is more than enough to make up for it. To read so many other authors and their ideas, is beyond helpful. They share the does and dont's so you don't have take a full college class to try to learn the techniques. I would recommend this book to all new authors who do not care what the outer skin looks like in a person, but what is in the heart!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Advice the Title Doesn't Tell You About
This is a smart purchase for anyone interested in Christian writing, but neither the title nor the subtitle captures what the book is really about. The author interviewed 40 authors, editors and others involved in various aspects of publishing summarizing input from each one in a separate chapter. From Responding to God's Call to Write to Learning from Genre Experts to Building Your Presence with Readers and the Media, the seven sections provide advice, helpful sidebars, and URLs for more information.

A quick read but, even more, a book that can be returned to again and again for reference and guidance.

3-0 out of 5 stars Wrong Title, Poor Cover Design but Excellent Content
Some books have a radical disconnect in the way they come together--and this book is one of them.

Almost everyone inside and outside of publishing would like to know how to make a bestseller--and for those of us involved in Christian publishing--in particular a Christian bestseller. You will not learn how to make a bestseller in this book. The word doesn't appear in the index and barely appears in the entire book. It's not about The Making of a Christian Bestseller. It IS about the subtitle, "An Insider's Guide to Christian Publishing."

I was discussing this book with a well-known literary agent who has been involved in Christian publishing for many years. He pegged this book cover design as "the worst cover design on the planet." I agree. Whoever selected florescent orange with white type knew nothing about selling books. The back cover is not readable. Poor is a kind word for this type of effort.

Even with these caveats, I recommend this book. Ann Byle has compiled some of the more unusual (yet vastly experienced) voices of Christian publishing into a single volume. Any writer who wants to thrive in the business of Christian publishing will want to read and follow the sage wisdom from writers like Davis Bunn, Sally Stuart, Dennis Hensley, Jack Cavanaugh, Charlene Ann Baumbich, Angela Elwell Hunt, Terri Blackstock, James Scott Bell, Melody Carlson, Nancy Rue, Brandilyn Collins, Julie Ann Barnhill and Karen Kingsbury (to name a few of the top writers who each have chapters in this volume). Or writers will want to learn from seasoned professional editors like Judith Markham, Dave Lambert, Ami McConnell, Jeanette Thomason and Lyn Cryderman--who also have chapters in this volume.

My overall impression from reading The Making of a Christian Bestseller is valuable information in the wrong package with the wrong title. Don't let these flaws put you off from getting this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars From a Christian Writer
What a great resource Ann Byle has put together. This book is chock full of the answers to so many questions I had and many I did not know to ask. I appreciate the clarity and organization which allowed me to flip right to the issues I needed addressed first and to get those answers directly from the sources. With information on blogging and self-publishing, the book is very current and I will keep it close to my work station to be able to refer to it often. Added bonus ;) the hunter's orange cover helps me find and grab it quick when I want to check a fact or review a subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Reading for Those Interested in Christian Publishing

If you are connected with Christian writing, or even interested in Christian publishing, order a copy of Ann Byle's book, The Making of a Christian Bestseller. It is engagingly readable, well organized, and highly informative.

The great strength of the book is that Ann has mined for publishing gold by interviewing a number of leading authorities on every aspect of Christian publishing. After finding priceless nuggets of insight, she has shared them with the rest of us.

The overall organization of the book allows readers to move immediately to those areas most relevant to his or her situation whether it is how to find a publisher, pursuing the passion of writing, writing fiction, writing non-fiction, or promotion.

Within each chapter, side-bars and summary statements make central points accessible, even for the reader with limited time.

Ann writes in a clear and engaging way. Each chapter captured my attention and held it until the end.In addition to benefiting from the content, I enjoyed her style.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource Book
This will be wonderful to refer to in my writing.I'm glad for the great examples in the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Guide to a Niche
The field of Christian literature is substantially large and this Guide covers the protocol of writing for this particular genre, which has its own unique requirements of style. From the proper formatting of Scriptural citations, the form of abbreviation for the various translations, and the correcting rendering of Biblical names, "The Christian Writer's Manual of Style" is a valuable addition to the Christian writer's shelf. There are useful sections on the differences between American and British usage, and a handy section on International English. Some of this advice you would find in the Chicago and Oxford style manuals, but it's nice to have it all in one volume. The book has a short, but serviceable index. The type throughout is crisp and clean.

4-0 out of 5 stars Big Asset in my self-publishing adventure
This book was one of the key text in completing my first writing project. It gave clear practical directions regarding standardizing words, phrases, etc. uniformally throughout the manuscript.

I highly recommend this book if you are planning on self-publishing a Christian book with a professional appearance.

Product Description
For 24 years running, the Christian Writers’ Market Guide has remained the most comprehensive, complete, essential, and highly-recommended resource for Christian writers, agents, editors, publishers, publicists, and those teaching writing classes. And it’s the tool for both for beginners and industry veterans.
This perennial guide contains a variety of indexes–listed by topic, alphabetical listing of publishing houses and agents, and more–to more than 1,200 markets. Those markets include greeting cards and specialty writing, e-book and traditional book publishing (32 new listings), and periodicals (52 new). Also listed are 96 literary agents, more than 100 new writing resource listings, and 166 contests (29 new).

As with the guide for the last couple years, a CD-Rom is included and contains the text of the book for simple, electronic searches. But the 2009 Guide is handier–a more reder-friendly page count with 100 pages or so of traditional content (like indexes and contest listings) now exclusively on the CD-Rom.

Readers will get the same trusted content, though, as in years past. In fact, the latest information on more than 100 editors and publishers, conferences, writers’ groups, and more are not only listed and indexed in the book, but this year, readers will get a code in the book and on the CD-Rom for accessing more updates through the year on author Sally Stuart’s web site, www.stuartmarket.com. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
If you write for the Christian market, you need the current year's Sally Stuart's Christian Writers' Market Guide. But if you're low on cash, the previous year's will do. There are lots of market changes every month, but this will give you a good idea of the publishing markets. You can always check "Christian Communicator"magazine and publishing houses' webistes, too, for updates.

5-0 out of 5 stars Christian Writer's Market Guide 2009
I get one every year. Only a fool would try to send out manuscripts without this information!

5-0 out of 5 stars Published (http://justinfarley.blogspot.com/2009/01/published.html)
I would recommend Sally E. Stuart's book titled Christian Writers' Market Guide 2009: The Essential Reference Tool for the Christian Writer for anyone who is pursuing being published. I was fortunate enough to receive a copy in a special pre-release. [...]

Paul once instructed his young friend and disciple to "Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth" (2 Timothy 2:15). One of my growing passions is to be the best communicator that I can be (whether that be in preaching, teaching, or writing). I understand that the fulfillment of my personal mission of engaging seekers, enabling followers, entrusting ministers, and encouraging leaders will hinge greatly on my ability to communicate both doctrine and direction. Who knows if a part of my journey will one day include being published? I am not the first person with the desire to see his thoughts be put in print. I do know that I will stay devoted to the value of life-long learning. Even this week, thanks in large part to the local church in which I am the youth pastor, I was able to begin a masters program in ministerial leadership. My hope is to better articulate my dream to one day design and develop a way to transition a church from being programmatic to becoming intentional. From being attractional to becoming missional. From being complex to becoming simple - a body of believers committed to connecting people to the love of Christ, the life of the church, and the need of the world. Only time will tell where my studies will take me.

Summary: Do you write? Looking to get published? Do you need some direction? If you answered `yes' to any of these questions, then you cannot afford to miss out on the Christian Writers' Market Guide 2009. For over 20 years, author Sally Stuart produces this amazing resource, filled with trusted content. The only one of it's kind, the 2009 Edition includes the latest information on more than 100 editors and publishers, conferences, writers' groups, and more are not only listed and indexed in the book, but this year, readers will get a code in the book and on the CD-Rom for accessing more updates through the year on author Sally Stuart's web site, http://www.stuartmarket.com/. Features include the full text of the book for easy searches of topics, publishers, and markets, as well as one hundred pages of exclusive content including indexes and writing resource listings. This is the resource you need to get noticed--and published. Completely updated and revised to feature the latest on . . . more than 1,200 markets for the written word, 416 book publishers (32 new), 654 periodicals (52 new), 96 literary agents, 100 new listings in resources for writers, 226 poetry markets, 316 photography markets, 25 African-American markets, and 166 contests (29 new).

Biography: Sally E. Stuart is the author of thirty-six books and has sold more than one thousand articles and columns. Her long-term involvement with the Christian Writers' Market Guide as well as her marketing columns for the Christian Communicator, Oregon Christian Writers, and The Advanced Christian Writer, make her a sought-after speaker and a leading authority on Christian markets and the business of writing. Stuart is the mother of three and grandmother of eight and lives near Portland, Oregon.

5-0 out of 5 stars How Does She Do It?
Not all gold mines have that soft yellow metal. In this case, Sally Stuart's Christian Writers' Market Guide 2009 is a bonanza of timely information on all things publishing. This book is definitely the starting place to finding the perfect agent or publisher for your manuscripts and articles if you are working in the Christian market. With the wealth of information that is presented in this book, I am amazed that Sally Stuart has time for any life other than collecting and collating all this data. 4-0 out of 5 stars Christian Writers Market Guide 2008
This is a reference book full of useful valuable information. It is not a book you will read and give away. Rather it will be kept and referred to continually especially for the first time writter.

1-0 out of 5 stars Would not buy again.
Though I think that this is probably the only reference of publishers in the Christian industry I would not recommend it for those who actually want to make a living at publishing. Instead I'd suggest the Writers Market. 2009 Writer's MarketThis Christian writers market has very few listings that pay money for articles or submissions. This is sad.Just because you are writing for a Christian publication does not mean that you should not be paid for your work.I suppose if you want to get your foot in the door, or write for free it is a good resource. However, I'd rather take my chance writing inspirational items for other markets that pay.I must also add that I have been disappointed with some of the online markets that this book sends me to.They don't seem professional at all, and in my experience have not been long lasting. It is a resource to have on my shelf, but I am not sure I would buy it again.

4-0 out of 5 stars excellent not perfect
.
This is the guidebook to have, if you are interested in the Christian publication market.
.
The main categories of interest are publishers, agents, and periodicals.
Trying to pull these out of a general guide like WM or WH would take a lot more work. The agents list is buried under "Helps" and should be given a separate entry at the main indexing level.
.
The resources are excellent. The other guidebooks should copy this approach. On the other hand, there is no "how to" or introductory writing information. That is good.It is available elsewhere and should not be duplicated especially in a useless watered down format as other guides do.
.
Vanity press publishers are separated from traditional publishers.
.
There is a very useful market analysis that tells the sub-genre/topic of books that are most published. Also the publishers are listed by size wrt the number of books they publish.
.
There are entries for greeting cards and specialty markets such as software and games.
.
There is a helps section that lists conferences, clubs, services and contests.
.
The usual glossary and index are at the back.
.
As with any similar guide, there are some E&Os.With the constant changes in the publishing industry always check the information and the current editors name before submitting a mss.
.
With the CDRom, this book is worth buying if your writing is aimed at this marketplace. I would refer to WM or WH at the library. The online adjuncts to other guides have not proven useful in the past. but this CDRom makes the book worth owning.

5-0 out of 5 stars The book for all who want ALL the details
I read some of the other reviews, and I think that you need to understand that Sally Stuart left out nothing!! Yes, she even listed the vanity publishers. You should never use a vanity publisher, but if you read each description, you can easily see that they are what they are. I am very happy that Sally list ALL the publishers, editors, etc. I would rather have them all in one book than finding out about one that isn't in the book that rips me off. Thank you Sally for not forgetting one reference!!!

I would like to thank Mr. Gilbert Morris for writing this book, for this is the guide I used in writing my first novel, a Christian novel of Irishimmigration in the early 1850s, A Smile Across the Wheat.I worked veryhard on my novel, and it was Mr. Morris' step-by-step solutions that helpedme achieve this goal.I would highly recommend this book as a guidelinefor anyone who loves writing. ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Clear, to-the-point and helpful.
This is a terrific guide for writing ANY kind of novels. The fact that Morris writes "Christian" novels should not put-off anyone. He is neitherpreachy nor a "Bible-thumper."His method is clear, methodical and practical. Novelist-wannabees like myself can pick up the means of constructing the skeletal frame on which to hang a story. Using excerpts from several works (many of them his own novels), Morris gives practical examples of how to carry out each instruction. 5-0 out of 5 stars Must-Have
If you write for the Christian market, you need this book. It's a bit outdated, but many of the markets are still available.

5-0 out of 5 stars Needed source for any writing
Sally Stuart has truly written a wonderful and helpful writing guide. I have met this wonderful lady years ago at a Christian Writers group, in MN. She is a great person. Very intelligent and knowledgeable in compiling this great book. Thank you Sally Stuart. Sincerely, Shirley Kalpin-Olson author of "The Truth Shall Set You Free", "Train Wreck in the Sierras" and coming soon to Amazon, under Shirley Olson, "Life After Death"

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for every Christian writer!
This is a must have book for anyone who is interested in Christian writing. Packed with lists of markets, writing guides, agents, publishers, and lots of helps.

3-0 out of 5 stars Getting gyped by a Christian? Why am I not suprised.
I am a Christian, and am trying to get published, and bought this simultaneous with the secular 2007 Writer's Market (back in Fall of 2007) which is outstanding. One has to expect new small publishers to go out of business, but I believe I discovered too many way-out-of-date references in the "Christian Writers' Market", publishers that had been out of business longer than 9 months. Does Sally E. Stuart work for a living or does she just keep redistribuing the same tired old volume with a new date on it?

5-0 out of 5 stars The Essential Guide
A book that survives and thrives through 22 editions is a successful and valuable product. This is certainly true of Sally Stuart's "Christian Writers' Market Guide 2007."

As her sub-title suggests, this work is the reference tool for the Christian writer. Such a claim is not the stuff of info-mercials; it is reality. As The Midwest Book Review extols: "An essential reference for anyone seeking to be published in the Christian community."

The 2007 Edition is completely updated and revised, now with even more markets for Christian writers, periodicals, publishers, e-book publishers, agents, and so much more. Stuart's tireless and meticulous research saves the aspiring and experienced Christian writer thousands of hours of personal research (time better spent writing and marketing).

If you want to keep abreast of trends and stay informed on contacts in the Christian publishing arena, then the "Christian Writers' Market Guide 2007" remains the best in the business. I purchase a new copy each year.

5-0 out of 5 stars Writers in the Spirit
Know you have something to say, but don't know quite how to put it on paper?Writers in the Spirit gives inspiration and hope to anyone wanting to write Christian experiences, thoughts, and feelings.Don't let writer's block stop you when there is help from kindred souls.

5-0 out of 5 stars At Last! A devotional-type book exclusively for writers.
There are dozens, if not hundreds, of devotional writings out there, from the periodicals such as Upper Room, to full-size books for everyone from dieters to caregivers and general books such as Daily Guideposts. We all have one or two, or an assortment. But Writer's in the Spirit is, I believe, the first one specifically for writers. And it is excellent.

Sally Stuart (Christian Writer's Market Guide) wrote: "Writers in the Spirit helps connect me to God while reminding me that writing is a gift from Him and a calling to be both treasured and nurtured." This reviewer agrees. Reading this book has been a unique experience and a book I will probably reread over time.

Carol Rottman writes with a fresh voice, providing inspiration and introspection with each paragraph. In places, the book reads like a journal, revealing discoveries about herself and her writing journey. Chapters are written as mini-essays and never fail to drive home a point to the reader. Doesn't matter what type of writing you do, there is something here that is bound to bless, encourage, inspire, and even admonish.

The book is divided into eleven topical sections such as "Nourishment," "Understanding," "Realism," and "Creation." No, that last is not about God's creation - the sub-caption says "Writing is creating. No writer writes like anyone else; each voice is unique." Each of these topical sections consists of several short essays that delve into the topic, followed by tips, hints and advice, and a writing challenge.

Says Rottman: "Writing for me is a form of meditation. I love the discipline of writing everyday using the ever-changing experiences in my life. I've discovered that God has equipped many of us with a desire to share our understanding of life through the written word. I agree with Jerry Jenkins, who once said, `I don't sing or dance or preach. I have been given one gift, so I feel obligated to exercise it in the work of the kingdom.' I treasure the awesome gift."

WRITERS IN THE SPIRIT is a great book, and would be a wonderful gift to another writer in your life, and definitely for yourself, too. Christmas is right around the corner. Get your copy now.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book for All Writers

WRITERS IN THE SPIRIT is a well-organized tool to both inspire and educate aspiring writers of all skill levels. Author Carol J. Rottman, Ph. D. has developed this book to encourage and teach Christian writers how to find the fullness of experience through our spiritual selves and translate that into words through all types of writing.

Rottman encourages writers to embrace life, learn from it, immerse themselves in it and then share that life through words put to paper.

Eleven chapters are divided into essays that further explore each facet of a writer's life, both physical and spiritual; a writer's prayer and tips, hints and advice; followed by a writing challenge.

WRITERS IN THE SPIRIT acts as a guide for the journey writers must take to fully realize their talent. Rottman has shined a light on the Christian writer's path and that light can illuminate the works of art inside us all

Throughout this unique book for writers are in-depth explorations of topics such as opening up God's incarnational spirit, taking nourishment from God to provide fruit that will outlive the writer, and writing with fervor to overcome our self-imposed limits.

Rottman doesn't stop there, though. She shares her personal experience of applying each concept to her life and illustrates how it then translates into discovery of one's self, which can then better express the words residing within us.

Searching for the meaning of our lives through writing is addressed with a reminder to return to the Bible and explore famous writing incidents such as the handwriting on the wall and the creation of the Ten Commandments. As we ponder the inspiration of the storytellers who recorded the biblical events, how then do we open ourselves to that same inspiration?

WRITERS IN THE SPIRIT is not a book to be read once then set aside to gather dust. Instead, it is a book to be digested, pondered and treasured for the long journey.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and I find myself returning to different sections as I come upon a challenge in my own writings.

5-0 out of 5 stars A New Angle
This book is a much needed new angle on writing.Instead of a mechanical guide to the elements of writing, Christian author Carol J. Rottman offers hope and inspiration to writers.

This is a very personal and practical book, offering examples from the author's own life experience. What makes this book distinct, however, is its spiritual perspective. It draws its principles from the bible and applies them to the real and often painful world of writing.

I found that this book does not just guide its readers. It motivates and inspires them. I found myself captivated as I read each chapter. Well worth reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars An invaluable reference, thoughtfully designed
For the Christian writer, or for any writer with an ethical/moral basis informing their work, this (my copy is 2004) is an invaluable reference. It's user-friendly in the extreme, with a carefully drafted how-to-use section making the massive amount of information here more available and less daunting. Major sections include resources for writers, book publishers by topical category, periodicals by topical category, helps for writers, and an index/glossary section. Although the market analysis is quickly outdated, much of the information is useful over several years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
This is the best market guide I have found.Even better than the Writer's Market Guide. It is filled with useful resources for writers such as literary agents, writing conferences, contests for writers, writer's groups, web resources, etc. It's definately worth the money.Updated yearly. The author is very knowledgeable.A must for any writer even if your focus of writing is not Christian writing.

5-0 out of 5 stars All Writers Should Purchase
I simply believe all Christian writers should purchase a copy of this book each year if they are truly interested in publishing in the Christian market. To my knowledge, there is no better book for the purpose of learning about and knowing the current market than this one.

Stuart does a remarkable job of keeping up with this ever-growing and changing field!

A MUST BUY!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Own Resource for Christian Writers!
Now there is someone who has made available and information resource for Christian Writers. Sally E. Stuart has compiled the comprehensive 'Christian Writers' Market Guide 2003' with all types of Christian publishing information. There is a large Christian market than one may expect and Stuart has researched this one well. You can only imagine the number of these markets are in access. I've added this to my much used and needed Writer's Resource shelf along with the 'Writer's Market' and 'The Writer's Handbook.' No Christian Writer should be without this valuable up-to-date marketing resource book.

This can be used by the first-time writer or the publishing veteran. It's essential if you're wanting to get published in the Christian community. The contents in it's pages is al you'll need from any resource. This reference tool is completely updated and revised with 1,138 publishing markets, 379 book publishers, 678 periodicals, 81 specialty markets (greeting cards, video, CD and gifts) and so on. There's much more from agents and foreign markets to internet markets to contest. There's additional resources for book promotion, submission guidelines, writers' conferences, workshops and groups. All this makes this the most complete and accurate resource of any kind. I've contacted at least three resources with good success. If you want to get your work published in the Christian market this is the book!

NOTE: An important rule mentioned in the book, DO NOT Rely Soley on the Information Provided in this Market Guide. It not intended to be complete by itself. It's important for your success as a writer that you learn how to use writer's guidelines and study book catalogs or sample copies before submitting to any publisher.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Guide for Christian Writers
"Christian Writers' Market Guide 2002: The Reference Tool for the Christian Writer" is still the best market guide for anyone writing for the Christian market. Any writer committed to being published needs this book.

Similar the better known guides published by Writers Digest, Sally Stuart has compiled, organized and analyzed the various publishers and publications serving Christian readers. By "Christian," she includes protestant and Catholics, mainline and nondenominational publishers.

The Writers Digest guides simply do not have the depth and breadth of Christian publishers. You need the WD guides, but you need this as well.

You'll find entries for smaller, but important publications, like "World Pulse," the missions newsletter, as well as "Decision," a widely circulated magazine published by the Billy Graham people. You'll see also, "Our Sunday Visitor," "Commonweal" and "My Friend" (for Catholic kids). Any publisher you see in your church library is here, plus hundreds you might be new to. You'll see addresses, e-mail and website information, description of the publication, how much they pay, and what kinds of articles, poems and books they like to see.

I can vouch for the efficacy of this book, as through this guide I sold several poems.

Buying a new edition each year is necessary, as the information changes from year to year. Publishers move, editors move to new jobs, and publications might go out of business. The serious writer needs to keep up-to-date. With Stuart's book, updated annually, you can.

The continual frustration about this otherwise extremely useful book is the lack of a CD version. I would love to be able to sort through it all, and isolate those publishers who pay for poetry. It is cross-referenced, so you can see who is publishing environmental, evangelistic, eschatology, humor, romance--you name it.

She also has topical guide listings here for publishers of books, subsidy books, general markets, literary agents, contest, children's, conferences, pastors, and much more.

I fully recommend "Christian Writers' Market Guide 2002: The Reference Tool for the Christian Writer" by Sally Stuart."

5-0 out of 5 stars A good reference.
This has everything I need to know from front to back.I even emailed the author a question and got a reply almost immediately!

5-0 out of 5 stars Christian Writer's Market Guide
As a Pastor and a writer, I recommend this book wholeheartidly. This isn't "The Guaranteed to get published Christian Writer's Market Guide" for those of you who are confused. It is a very comprehensive work of suberb, and I would imagine, painstaking detail that Sally has gathered from various Publishing Houses, Periodicals, Writer's groups, Literary Agents and the Likes. It is a much needed resource for any serious Christian Writer. It is a "tool" to help us unlock the doors into the very competitive publishing industry, which changes by the day.Sally even gives updates to the market in her monthly column "Write Markets" found in the "Christian Communicator."This book is essential and is worth every cent.Sometimes just browsing through the pages gives me motivation to keep on writing and see the Gospel proclaimed in as many ways as I can.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unreliable, unfortunately
Well, I wish I could back this book 100%, but I can't.

I've found the information in it very unreliable. For example, one publisher I contacted turned out to be a vanity press, although Sally Stuart didn't identify them as such. In addition, I found many agents that were listed had either moved or were no longer in business. Perhaps the book needs to be updated more regularly?

I have yet to discover a solid publisher or agent through this book that isn't listed in the Writer's Market.

5-0 out of 5 stars On Top of the Market
Sally Stuart continues to provide complete and necessary information for any writer looking to be published in the Christian marketplace. If that's your market, buy this book.

Itemized and thorough, readers of the Writer's Digest writer's markets will not be disappointed. Cross referenced ministry... have a seemingly obscure niche article? She has created a section outlining the niches, listing the publications which serve them.

It is well-edited and cleanly laid out.

Useful would be this book on a searchable CD. The book lacks bigtime here. I want to search all publications publishing poetry, and have the results returned in one area. It takes a long time to thumb through and read each one. I'd like to search all the poetry publishers which pay for the poems... you can see how this would be handy. Maybe next year.

Having held out to buy a new edition, I suffered using a 1999 version. Editors, publications change locations and needs. I acquired far too many rejection slips and returned mail for delaying my purchase of this new edition. Don't make the same mistake!

I fully recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars For Christian writers seeking publication
Now in a fully updated and expanded sixteenth edition, Sally Stuart's Christian Writers' Market Guide continues to be a complete and accurate reference guide and resource for Christian writers seeking publication.
