4-0 out of 5 stars The perfect read for....
"She found it in the clouds" is the perfect read for anyone who has had to ask "why me", "why now" and "why so much".This book testifies to the song "through it all"... I've learned to trust in Jesus, I've learned to trust in God. Readers are privy to the experiences, obstacles, heartaches, victories and triumphs of a young woman who allowed God to turn bitter and difficult circumstances into purpose and ministry.
This book shows us that our lives are like pieces of a puzzle and though at times the events in life do not seem to fit together, in the end, God is taking each one and creating a masterpiece.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beyond Words!
She found it in the clouds is awesome and a great page turner. I encourage anyone who wants to share a real life journey, to read this book. This book shares so many real life experiences with real people who do not have the opportunity to tell their story. I encourage everyone to buy this book. You won't regret it. (Buy it in hardcover)

5-0 out of 5 stars A triumph!
"She found it in the clouds" is a story of God's amazing grace in Sharon's life. This story illustrates the many curve balls life can through and how God was in every moment. Sharon's writing drew me in. I felt like I was there at her birth, and I could "see" Africa through her eyes. She is an extraordinary woman, anointed by God and I hightly recommend this book to anyone that has experienced....life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational testimony
Sharon's story will take you through a myriad of emotions, from the nostalgia of bittersweet memories to heartache, frustration and even anger. At times I caught myself questioning why she allowed herself so much pain at the hands of others, but then this is the story of a woman reflecting back on her coming of age.

With all the pain and loss she suffered from death and abuse it's amazing to see her emerge a strong and confident woman, without bitterness or emotional scars.Incredibly, Sharon's experience is a real-life lesson in the healing power of the Lord.Only God could keep her heart and mind from being destroyed and then allow her to grow and blossom out of those storms.Hers is truly an inspirational testimony.

Product Description
From before the days of Messiah until today, Jewish people have read from and discussed a prescribed portion of the Pentateuch each week. Messiah Yeshua, when he attended synagogue, joined his people in this practice. Now, a Messianic Jewish rabbi has added his voice to the ancient conversation about the Torah. Russ Resnik, Executive Director of the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations has written an excellent commentary on each of the weekly portions. With reference to and respect for the rabbis who have already contributed to this conversation, he brings another perspective on the Torah, that of a Messianic Jew, a Jew who follows Messiah Yeshua. Whether you read Gateways to Torah all in one sitting, pace yourself weekly, or use it as a study text for a discussion group, this book will give you fresh insights into the Word of God. 246 pages. 5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME CONTENT! --Poor publishing!!!
BUY A DIFFERENT EDITION OF THIS BOOK -- FROM ANOTHER PUBLISHER

The content of this book is awesome.
I have never seen anything like it before in modern print.
And if you only are able to get this edition, and not another, then it is WELL worth it.

However the way this edition is created/published is by using OCR, and it was evidently OCR'ed from an old edition (book was originally published in early 1700's I think), and there are lots of errors in letters, words, and even sentences and sections.

The idea of OCR'ing old books is a great idea, because something is better than nothing... but if you CAN, get a different edition of this book... one that wasn't OCR'ed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Enter the Silence While You Read
This is an important work for those of you that enjoy modern-day mystical writings. Written by an anonymous writer, this woman is a Mom, a wife, and a mystic. This set is Part III of a four-volume set, and tells us about interior locutions where the writer meets and speaks to Jesus, His Mother Mary, and the Eternal Father. Using appropriate discernment, the words found inside ring true for being accurate insofaras the Magesterium of the Catholic Church is concerned. That is, there is nothing in the volumes that is contrary to current Canon Law and the teaching of the Catholic Church. The writer was told by Jesus not to reveal herself to the public until He so chooses. She becomes a "victim soul" and together with other prayer warriors throughout the world, intercedes with the Lord to assist in bringing souls closer to the Lord. It matters not, I believe, if you are Catholic. The words from the Lord are remarkable, as is the writer's response in what she elects to do for the Will of the Father. She also sees and hears words from the Blessed Mother, St. Padre Pio, Terese of Lisieux, and other saints. When you read it, say a prayer to the Holy Spirit that you receive graces from this work to help you be a better human being with love, compassion and faith in your heart to give to others. Always remember to keep praying. Well worth the time and energy and not to be missed. Excellent book, especially for those hard days when it is tough to even want to go on with one's life. True spiritual reading. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Walk Series
A great series for personal or family devotions, simple with neat tidbits of rabbinical information scattered throughout but not for one who wishes to study in depth. It's a walk in the park as opposed a hike in the wilderness.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Series - Highly Recommended
I now have this whole series (five books). If you are interested in a quick semi-devotional commentary on the Torah - this is great. If you are studying any of the Pent. books I recommend this set to augment any other commentaries you may be using. J. Feinberg also offers rabbinic commentary, so you get some insight into how the older rabbis interpreted passages from a purely Jewish perspective. It is also a mini-Hebrew course, so if you have studied Hebrew there are some great little "Hebrew Lessons" in the beginning of each chapter. I really love this set.

5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding God's Story with Humankind
Walk Genesis is the first Messianic Jewish devotional commentary that brings together Jews and Gentiles in a common faith walk. Gentiles will understand that God reached out to them first and only created Israel as a nation because mankind needed divine help from above. The line of kings promised Abraham resulted in the birth of Jesus, the Messiah. The virgin birth and birth of Isaac are two instances of divine intervention--you'll see how God courts Sarah to birth a child with Abraham! Readers will be THRILLED to see that God has always loved mankind as a whole--and, believe it or not, the existence of a Jewish people shows God's covenant kindness to all mankind. You will never be the same after reading this book. ... Read more

Product Description

Religious faith may seem to be so personal that it has no place in the composition classroom. But Negotiating Religious Faith in the Composition Classroom demonstrates the myriad and profound ways that religious faith shapes the work of composition students and instructors, whether or not they are believers. Elizabeth Vander Lei and bonnie kyburz invite you to consider anew how religious faith can help writers and teachers accomplish the goals of composition by addressing questions such as:

  • What is the role of faith in the classroom?
  • How can teachers read and respond to faith-based arguments?
  • In what ways are faith and reason compatible?
  • How can we best help our students-and ourselves-to learn within explicitly religious contexts?
  • Can diversity of religious opinion promote learning in meaningful, passionate ways?

Negotiating Religious Faith in the Composition Classroom includes work by scholars from a range of institutions and settings: faith-based and secular, large and small, public and private. Bringing together scholarship on politics, education, rhetoric and composition, these scholars offer practical suggestions for the teaching of writing.

Thoughtful, balanced, provocative-Negotiating Religious Faith in the Composition Classroom invites readers to join the conversation about religious faith and the teaching of composition.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource, Patience and Understanding of Your Child Needed
I purchased this resource when my son was 4 and have been slowly working through it at the pace our life and his interest dictates.I am learning how to teach him and that is what I wish I had known from the start - this is a resource, not a magic pill. How closely you follow it will depend on your child, your pace of life, and you.It is not necessary to follow this exactly as stated. We started with this (skipping the letter introduction, as he already knew his letter sounds. If he had not I would NOT have used her method to teach him. Before we began, we played simple games through out the day to practice letter sounds. His favorites were drawing a grid on the sidewalk and jumping to the letter sounds I called out.We repeated this game with simple words when he began his first words). The best thing this book offers is an outline to introduce the SKILL of reading in a simple, no frills way.I think this is important for kids to master - whether they master it in the beginning, or whether they need a little more to draw them in (with other readers, other games, or simple modifications of these lessons) doesn't really matter, as long as these skills are given to them soon after they begin learning to read.If your child hates this book, I would still use this as a guide to know what skills to master with your child. For instance, at first my son found it too difficult to sit still and focus only on the page. So, I took the simple word family lessons and turned it into a game.I printed out a sheet of pictures and a sheet of words, cut them out individually (they were each half sheet large) and threw them up in the air and had him pair the words with the pictures. The silliness and physical activity drew him in.That's the quickest way to get my son to do anything, so you just have to know your child and be willing to experiment. Now, a year later, he has gone off to Kindergarten already reading. He's one of the few in his class, if not the only one.And because this isn't tied to a computer program or some other materials based program, we incorporate the skills into our daily life - reading signs on the road, practicing blends, etc etc - wherever we go.This learning attitude has spread to what they give him in class and is teaching him to be curious and interested in learning. But that was less the product that gave us that, and more a mind set that we have that this product supports and enhances.Hope that helps.

3-0 out of 5 stars Thorough but not for every child!
The book is very comprehensive and teaches reading in a very sytematic way. It is extremely complete and very easy to use since it scripted for the parent. My gripe is that it teaches blends from the end of the word instead of the beginning. For example: instead of teaching ba, be,bi,bo bu,It will sound out* at* and then add b, c,m, etc.. to make bat, cat, mat. This was extremely confusing for my child and he is definately not dyslexsic. We switched to something else until we go these crucial blends and then we came back to it.Another problem it that the print is a bit small for some children and I had to hold it up to my son's face so he could see it clearly.(he has 20/20 vision). This was a bit difficult to do since it is large and cumbersome. These are somewhat minor issues but if they could be rectified it would make things so much easier!

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid, simple, but could use a few tweaks
I'm using this with my 4-year-old son. Before I started homeschooling him, I had him in a private preschool, where he learned all his short-vowel and consonant sounds, as well as some basic math (beyond simple counting that is). In spite of that, I didn't skip the first two sections that teach short-vowel and consonant sounds, but I did cover two letters a day instead of just one. Otherwise I've followed the program the way it's laid out.

I gave the book 4 stars because it's simple, orderly, and lives up to it's name. However, I have a few issues so far that kept the book from getting 5 stars.

1) The poems in the first two sections. Yes, kids are great at memorizing things, but these are horrible. The very first letter caused problems for my son, who kept trying to say "first vowel" for both lines because the lines were so similar. Patterns are a wonderful way to memorize things, but these patterns weren't consistent. It made me wonder whether Jessie Wise had field-tested these on a variety of children before publishing them. I'm sure some kids will get them, but the combination of boring and inconsistent is a little too much for the short-vowel poem. The consonant poem is better - the pattern is consistent, and it's a little more fun (my son loved saying "/b/,/b/, bat" even though I didn't ask him to learn the poem), but after the short-vowel poem I opted to skip it. In my son's case it wasn't needed.

2) Other reviewers have noted a lack of phonemic awareness training, which I also noted. This may be due simply to the fact that the book was never intended to address that area, but some direction here from the author would be helpful - if for no other reason than not every "ordinary parent" will realize that it could be helpful to address that explicitly if their child doesn't pick up on it on his own. I found other books to supplement in that area.

3) The lack of illustrations were not a problem - in fact I prefer it that way - but the text intended for the child and the adult needs to be set apart much better than it is. Yes, the fonts are different, in both size and style, but that's just not enough. I would recommend either boxing the text intended for the children or printing in two colors. Even I have to look twice on occasion to see which parts I'm supposed to read to myself, read out loud, or have my son read - and this is after I've reviewed it before sitting down with him!

4) I found it necessary to supplement with other activities for drill. I used the activities in the lessons, but they weren't much fun and I do think it's important to make drill fun even if the lessons themselves are treated as work. Adding an element of fun can make the difference between a child who learns willingly and a child who fights you every step of the way.

5) I've also found it necessary to supplement with decodable readers that are a little more fun for my son than the passages in the book. There's nothing wrong with those passages, but there's nothing like the satisfaction of reading an actual book, no matter how simple (I picked up the Bob Book series). Jessie Wise and her daughter, Susan Wise Bauer, actually recommend this in their book, The Well-Trained Mind.

Lastly, we're not done yet. If I run into anything else as we continue I will add a comment. Overall I still recommend this book, but it would be nice to see some of these issues addressed in the next edition. Even with these issues it's a solid, carefully-laid out phonics program presenting completely in a single volume.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Different Kind of Reading Program
This is an excellent book for helping you teach your child to read. I would even say it is the best book of its kind. I looked over every reading program I could get my hands on through the local library and bookstores before buying this one. I was kind of skeptical of this one at first because it lacks the glitz and glamour of the cartoon based programs flooding the market. This approach does make more sense because most adult books don't have cartoons and/or visual aides and it helps develop their interest in the more adult style books at an earlier age. After going through the entire Alphabet with my daughter I was thoroughly impressed. It is a different, but better way of teaching reading. The pronunciation of the letter sounds is really what sets this program apart because it provides a more logical bridge from alphabet to reading. The step by step scripted lessons are great and the songs and rhymes are awesome learning tools. My daughter loves the vowel song and sings it all the time. I highly recommend this book. If you're short on time I also suggest that you purchase the flash card set, it cuts down the prep time to zero and each lesson then has a time commitment of about 10 minutes max.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than 100 Easy Lessons!
We originally began teaching my dd to read using Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. Although she found it to be fun, I disagreed with the program because it stopped short of fluent reading. This book covers everything, including way more advanced reading. You child will end the book reading fluently. True, the lessons are not colored. There are no pictures. It's a bit "dry". However, the lessons are so short that your child won't have time to get bored. It's a wonderful resource for anyone wishing to teach a child to read. We'll never use anything else. ... Read more
