Best Reference for Practicing Engineers
This is the best reference for Systems Analysis, Economics and Linear Programming for engineers (and others) working on practical ("real") problems amongst the twenty or so I have read in the last twenty years. It also includes some non-linear analysis, which few engineers in practice will need, but which is occasionally useful. The descriptions are simple, clear and straight-forward and the examples are excellent. It does not include Karmarkar's revision to the Simplex method, but that is a minor inconvenience. Anyone involved in resource allocation should be familiar with the materials in this text. This is really a guide to the maximum use of limited resources. ... Read more

On September 8, 1962, John H. Westervelt enlisted as a private into the 1st New York Volunteer Engineer Corps.That same year, he shipped out of New York on the "Star of the South" to South Carolina to fight for the North in the Civil War.The following April, he began a journal for his 13-year-old son Frazee so that his child could know of his experiences in the war.

Sixty-two years later, John Westervelt’s journal – 68 entries written on tattered, yellow pages, a record of "such things as may come under [his] personal observation" – was found in the trash outside his former home now West Farms.In early 1995, his drawings, meant to accompany the written journal, were discovered in the West Point Special Collections Archives.The two have been reunited in Diary of a Yankee Engineer.

Diary of a Yankee Engineer
This book is written not as a history of the war but as how the average Civil War Engineer lived, what he saw how he felt and vivid descriptions of the areas in which they served.
Also my Great-great grand father Aaron Hotchkiss is mentioned several times in the book.This book is a keeper!
