It helped with everything that he's studying in school.

Making Myths Tedious
I bought this book based on the other reviews and its low price tag, but was very disappointed. Unless you are very into poetry, I do not believe you will enjoy this book. Somehow, it manages to make exciting myths boring. I would go with Hamilton's mythology book.

Greek & Roman Mythology
While I have not finished reading this book yet, I am throughly enjoying it.I have wanted to read this book since before I could read (my mother had a copy with an interesting looking cover).Then when I learned to read it was too complicated.Now that I am grown (not according to my wife) it is nice to read and understand the book!

Long time favorite; good place to start for novice interested in mythology; always good for a reference book to refresh your memory.

It is to no offense to the seller- the book arrived on time and in great, promised condition (thanks!) but the book itself is a little confusing. I was shopping for a mythology book that was simple and really easy to read. This is a great book.It is great as a reference, great to read straight through, etc.I actually bought it because I have a 4 year old who really loves Greek Mythology, and this lets me look up a God or Goddess alphabetically if she has a question.I love this book.

Perfect Present!
I bought this book as a present for my boyfriend. I had checked on Amazon for a book on Roman/Greek mythology and for some reason this book didn't stand out to me, which is why I have decided to write a review. I saw it in a local bookshop and wanted to say to anyone else looking for a present on such a book that it is a recommended buy. There is five chapters to it - Early Greek Gods, The Olympians, Attendant Gods, The Heroes and Roman Mythology.

This hardback book is not too daunting a size with about 123 pages to it's name but it has over 100 images which really adds to it. There's still plenty of room for text as the book is 12" long. Bear in mind though that this book would act better as an introduction to the area rather than an addition to the library of someone who already has passed that introductory stage.

This was not at all what I was expecting...I thought that I would be getting a book with just text about Greek and Roman mythology.What I found instead was a picture/coffee table book.It was a pleasant surprisemade even more pleasant by the fact that the text was not disappointing. Since I do not know much about mythology, this book is a great start for meand perhaps others wanting to more about the mythology that permeatesliterature and art.The pictures, art and drawings within are fun to lookat, if not sometimes misplaced, like instead of Artemis near the text thatspeaks of her, there is another drawing of a young male god. ... Useful, but somewhat outdated
While Kendall's revision dates to 1993, Sykes wrote the bulk of this in 1952 and in the intervening years, new discoveries and translations have made some parts of some entries inaccurate.The book is in standard,alphabetical format, with entries on deities ranging from a brief sentenceto a couple of paragraphs.Their roles in myths are necessarily verybriefly summarized although a number of entries on the creation legends ofvarious cultures are more fully developed, running as long as a couplepages.

This book is best used as a launching point for furtherinvestigation.Find an entry that sparks your interest and then track downa fuller version of the myths or legends wherein they feature.Otherwise,it serves as a fair quick reference guide, but I wouldn't consider itauthoritative. ... Read more
