No this is not her best book it is second hr best book is when she goes too hollywood .

The Magic Attic club books are very good books for younger readers (7-10). They not only entertain the reader, they also teach lessons. In the book "Keisha to the Rescue", Keisha experiences discrimination. Thisbook teaches that money and a good name are not important in friends. In HORSE SHY, the second book in THE SADDLE CLUB series, Stevie, Carole, and Lisa finally get to go on the long-awaited Mountain Trail Overnight (or MTO). They have a great time, and things get even better for Carole when she gets back: she gets to care for Veronica's stallion, Cobalt. Veronica may be snobby, but Cobalt is beautiful and Carole loves him.

Then there's a tragic jumping accident and Cobalt is killed. Carole is devastated and swears that she'll never ride again. It's up to Lisa and Stevie to remind Carole how much she loves riding, and that life continues, maybe in ways that nobody expected.

HORSE SHY delves into deeper material than HORSE CRAZY, the first book in the series, with the death of a beloved horse, but Bryant still manages to keep it light for her readers, with a more than happy ending.

Book fits with rest of series
"Horse Shy" is the second in "The Saddle Club" series--one of many books in which the snobby Veronica demonstrates why she is so awful. Why is it so hard to believe that her wealthy parents bought her a stallion--Cobalt--to ride? The girl gets everything that she wants from her parents throughout the series, so her ownership of a stallion should not require any suspension of disbelief; it comes naturally.
The Saddle Club series is comprised of wonderful books fantastic for horse-crazy youth, and a perfect length for late elementary and middle school readers. When I was that age, I never put any of these books down, often re-reading them multiple times.

Suspend your disbelief and you'll love this book!
This is the second book in the saddle club series. I think that Horse Shy was better than horse crazy, but still was slightly unrealistic as well. After all, Stevie, Lisa, and Carole seem to have an unusual amount of luck with all the things throughout the series that happen to them! If you suspend your disbelief, you'll love this book and the rest of the series. I totally sympathize with Carole about how you can fall in love with a horse and want to quit riding forever when something happens to it. Overall, this book was pretty good, although as the series goes on, the books get better.

very unrealistic
Not the premise that it's hard to say goodbye to a horse you love to the point where you may temporarily stop riding because it hurts so much. No, it's just that the horse in question is a STALLION. For a junior exhibitor. For one thing, riders who are under a certain age cannot compete on stallions (at least in most classes), so I guess Veronica had to be content with never showinig Cobalt. Also, she was scared of him and did not ride him well, so it is a surprise she did not get badly hurt earlier. Why, why, why, are stallions always the mount of choice for children and teens in books? Mares and geldings are just as capable of generating mystery and intrigue.

Horrible
I really don't like these books. They're more about people relationships compared to horses. They're some of the worst horse books I've ever read. "Thoroughbred" books and the "Ashleigh" series are way better. I bought some "Saddle Club" books before I didn't know about them, I've given them all away. Stay away from these books! ... Read more

Kicked Out??????????????
I'm in 4th grade and I absolutely love this book! Stephanie decides to go to Camp Sail Away to be a CIT. She thinks it'll be great!When Stephanie gets to camp she finds out something awful. Her boyfriend Luke got kicked out of camp! She also found out that Luke spraypainted the boy's camp.Did someone want himto get him kicked out?Stephanie doubts that Luke would do anything like that. Luke keeps sneaking to camp to see Stephanie again. Someone finds out. At the same time Stephanie gets a special job. The job is to make sure the boats get tied up. Her job wasn't going too well. Back to camp again , No flamingos!- or not?
Stephanie and her friends are in summer camp and they think it's going to be great!but then they find out that the flawmingos are there to!isn't it weird that every camp Stephanie goes to she mets Rene there!not that thats good or anything, but it makes a good story line,but Stephanie isn't that worried after she mets Luke. Fun and romance with a twist of mystery.
I really liked this book.It was about Stephanie and her friends at camp sail-away.She met her boyfriend out on the water.He was water skiing and the wave he created knocked her boat over.He came over to see if she was ok and one thing led to another.I would recommend this book because it was cool, exciting and you never know what would happen next.

Spreading Equine Infection
Catherine Saunders has scribed a beautiful book set to the photographs of David Handley.Whoever did their layout should also be given credit due to it's fine presentation.

What truly shines is the writing, which is clear and concise, written in a form easily understood.

It is an ideal book for a parent to read to a young child, or for a child to learn to read.

So far as the subject matter, it won't tell the experienced horse person what he or she didn't already know.But for those non horsey type parents who are thinking about sending their children to riding school, it may be enough to turn the endeavor into a family affair.

Book Review
This is really good book. Going into an attic and dressing up then going into another world through a mirror, who wouldn't want to? This is a book for kids about seven or older. This book is one of my favorite of the series.

Full of Magic and Fun
What can be more fun than to escape through the attic to another time and place?Easy to read, fun, and similar to the American Girls, but without the history lesson.

Pleasant reading, flows smoothly
My daughter (6) found this to be a fairly easy to understand book (I did most of the reading).Although published for slightly older readers, my daughter understood the concepts (and she has all the Magic Attic dolls, soshe acted out some of the scenes).Anyway, the book stimulated herimagination, it was a well-done introduction to the four girls and Ellie.

I would reccomend this book to readers of my age and older.

THE BEST!
It's Sea City part 2 when Mary Anne and stacey go back to sea City. Vannesa Pike has a crush on the ice cream parlor man only to mention that the ice cream man has a crush on Mallory pike. Mary anne has also a crush on alex. Will a summer romance come between Mary Anne and Logan? Will Vannesa's heart be broken by the ice cream man? there's a reason for all of this.
NOTE: THERE ARE TOO MANY BOYS IN SEA CITY!

It's Ok
A fairly average novel as far as BSCs go.Mary ANne and Dawn are mothers-helpers again and there's lots of boys and flirting.You know.

Sea City part II
When I was 13 and I saw a preview for this book in the Scholastic book order, I was so excited since I had enjoyed part 1 of Sea City in #8 Boy Crazy Stacey. I went out and bought it just in time for summer vacation andtook it with me to read when I went with my family to the Oregon Coast. Itwas very appropriate reading material for that environment. It was so good,and I enjoyed it except that I feel like there was too much 'romance' init. And that seemed to make it dull. But it was still good, although Ipreffered Sea City part 1 in Book #8.

Very dramatic.

a good book

i have to admit the author did a good job of writing it,but ive read better books.mary anne is nice but i wish shed just get over logan.in the other books he ,like , ran her life.i think it was a good idea to bring sunny & MA together in 1 book.

Mary Anne's still the same loveable person!
I liked how Ann brought Sunny & Mary Anne together!And yes, Mary Anne is getting new plots (NOT a new boyfriend, which is good).Her heart has just about healed from Logan;I'm glad Ann didn't latch her onto another boyfriend like so many other series would have done.I liked that she joined the yearbook in a previous book & she's doing more things.It's so heartwarming that her house has been re-built & she & her family move back in.I loved the descriptions; I felt as if I were right there with Mary Anne & my heart just warmed for her.She's been through so much pain & suffering in her life & it's good that she's happier now & at peace.She deserves peace & happiness; she's such a good, courageous person!I liked how she sensed that Sunny was still hurting from losing her mom, even though Sunny was hiding her pain under a facade of cheerfulness & she comforted Sunny, even when Dawn got mad at Sunny.It was funny how when the girls snuck off to New York City, Mary Anne felt so guilty.I was sooo sure that she was going to break down & fess up!I'm surprised that she didn't.The ending was gave such a sense of peace & closure & I'm glad that Mary Anne's feeling peaceful these days.

Try SHADOW CLUB for reluctant readers
As an English professor and an avid reader, it's been a source of distress that one of my grandchildren doesn't like to read.He is fast-paced and doesn't like to slow down long enough to read; like so many of my students, he'll "wait for the movie."Recently he told me that his class at school had been reading THE SHADOW CLUB and that he had been reading ahead because he loved it.I bought it for him on the spot and purchased THE SHADOW CLUB RISING, the sequel, and two other books by Shusterman as well.He was excited to have them and has told me at length what he likes about the books: the constant action and drama, the characters sympathetic to his age group (11), etc. I thank Neal Shusterman for turning my grandson on to reading at long last!

Try this book
The book was a ok book.The boy was in a club that was not for fun or anything like all the other club here. The boy want to get out but he couldn't.So they start to hurt him and they want to kill him know.

Great Book!
I thought this book was great. It was much better than the original Shadow Club and is filled with suspense. Sometimes it may seem violent but it was pretty good. I would reccomend this to anyone who liked read the original Shadow Club or just likes stories filled with suspense.

The Shadow Club is back.Or is it?
This is a sequel to The Shadow Club.In the first book, a group of students who seem to always be second best and never first, get together to form a revenge club.They pull a Hitchcockian maneuver where they each play pranks on one of the others' foes.But then things get out of hand.

In this sequel, the school hosts a new student.He is impossibly good at anything he tries.He has bested all of the best.Now the best are second best.Then the pranks starts and everyone thinks it is the work of The Shadow Club.

Jared, the ex-leader of the ex-club comes under the heaviest suspicion.He must work to try and clear his name but learns that no matter what you do, people will think what they want.

Is it an impossible task?Maybe.But you will have to read how Jared deals with it and how everything plays out.It is a page turner right to the end.

I remember a similar story on Disney's Recess, but here Shusterman takes the hard and serious line instead of the happy-go-lucky tone of the cartoon.Shusterman is so straight in this book that there in not even a single mention of Ralphy Sherman.

An excellent book that just might be better than the original.

Creepy as the title
I thought this book, well, downright creepy. I mean- Shadow Club Rising. Already sounds creepy. But the story just backs it up. I can't believe the cruel and sick things that those kids do to eachother. To heavily dislike someone because they're better than you and to keep it to yourself is ok.... but hating someone so much that you could seriously hurt them and not care... just because they're better than you.it's wrong. i think that if this is really what kids are like today, than our earth has no future. ... Completely stupid
First let me start off with some background. I am a junior now. Yes, I still read the BSC books every now and then. They're not extraordinary or anything; they're just nice and easy after all the classic, challenging reads in English class. This book, however, is NOT my one of my favorite BSC books. It's not that it's boring (it's actually kind of exciting), it's just that it's stupid.

Like I said, I am a junior, and all throughout my life my schools have Red Ribbon week and they have theme days like Pajama Day. In elementary school it was more common to go with the theme, but you didn't really get teased or anything. Now in high school it's actually kind of rare to see someone in P.J.s or whatever. And nobody gets teased or blamed for anything. That's why this book is retarded. I don't want to write a 600-page novel, so I'll list all the reasons why this book is SO unrealsitic and stupid:

1. Participation in those types of theme days is voluntary, not mandatory. Sure, teachers enchoprage it, but it's not a big deal. Man making them wear those stupid things isn't America or Democracy! It's like totalitarianism (okay maybe that's going a bit overboard but if you look at it it is similar)!

2. Real adults are not that stupid. At the game or whatever, there was fighting between parents and some got arrested. If that's what spirit causes, then leave me out!

3.Why in the heck would the newspaper lady appear at the school and single out poor Dawn and make her look like a grouchy antisocialist? In real life, she would have gotten fired for that or at least condemned!

4. Why would Dawn's and Mary Anne's fi=riends turn against them just beacause they don't wear their PJs to school? Makes you think, Are they really their friends?

5. If a school really made kids wear so-called "School spirit" clothes, they might get in trouble. Especially since the Month only created division.

This is a little random but honestly WHAT was Martin trying to do with this book? Say, "If you make people do things they will turn against you?" If so, she should have done it more realistically, like maybe have the principal create unfair rules. (But not TOO stupid like evryone must wear an orange tie every Thursday)

I could go on but let me say the good parts to be fair: Dawn and Mary Anne. They ook a stand against the stupid School Spirit Month that was dividing the school. And I liked the way they compromised (Oh my gosh it was so ridiculously obvious), that School Spirit would still be there but it would be completely voluntary. Whew! It's one of those 'duh' ideas.

In conclusion, don't read this book unless you want to see that there are SOME reasonable people out there. Maybe check it out from the library first.

Implausible
I don't like Dawn and never have.I think she is vapid, vain and self centered.That notwithstanding, this whole story was completelyimplausible. What was the point of School Spirit Week, anyhow?DitzyDawn's sensible stepsister Mary-Anne had enough sense to bail out of theludicrous middle school tradition. I agree, the whole stupid thing shouldnever have been compulsory, but why was it?Nobody could have EVER paid MEto wear p.j.'s to school or do any of the other stupid things the kids inthis book did for School Spirit.I also didn't like the way the adultcommunity acted like idiots about it and all that did was point up just howdivisive and needless the Spirit Week really was. It was just plainstupid.

I was glad that the compulsory standing was rescinded and thatthe students could elect to participate or not, as they saw fit.I alsodidn't like the way it undermined what School Spirit was really about. Instead of these stupid pranks, why not have the kids do community work,such as visiting folks in nursing homes, bringing food to the inbound anddoing clean up work on the school grounds?That shows an interest inothers and real spirit by being a part of a community, whether it be aschool community or the public at large.

Interesting but not entirely realistic
This book was one of the more interesting BSC books.It showed how being spirited and peppy is not for everyone, and that people who don't want to wear their pajamas to school (or whatever) shouldn't have to.But it wasunrealistic that the parents and community got so involved in Spirit Month. ...
