5-0 out of 5 stars Great Ideas for Practice
I looked through lots of books at the Bookstore and I was looking more for ideas for practice and helping kids learn new skills. This book provides learning through games, strategies and many more useful tools. I think that keeping the kids busy and learning in practice with little idle time is essential. It also gives you a plan for the year per age group. This book has given me lots of ideas.Thanks.

3-0 out of 5 stars Psychology of Coaching
This book is a great book to discuss the pshycological aspect of coaching. The book discussed what it means to be a coach and how to deal with parents. It did have a few drills at the end of the book that were somewhat helpful but overall this book didn't have a lot of useful informationfor myself. If you want a great book for coaching, buy"The baffled Parents Guide To Coaching Youth Softball".

2-0 out of 5 stars Coaching Youth Softball
A more appropriate title would have been "The Psychological Aspects of Coaching Youth Softball".This book's strength is in that area. However, I was very disapointed in it's minimal discussion of specificdrills (batting, defense, base running etc.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Play ball!
As a first time league softball coach, I was looking for some pointers on teaching basic skills, drills, and organizing practices.Boy, does this book deliver. In simple prose, and with helpful diagrams, this book laysout a thoughtful approach to teaching every aspect of the game, and makingit fun.I am beginning my first season with more confidence having readthis book.Play ball! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars good
Very interesting. Alot of insight into the game, but could use a little more explanation on what they are talking about. He starts going into plays and you kinda sit there and scratch your head.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great General Book
Great book outlining a proven method of setting up a successful program which was what I was looking for.

5-0 out of 5 stars What every coach should know about building and maintaining a football program
Coach Allan Trimble has a 111-9 record and six consecutive Class 6A state championship titles. And his winning list goes on and on...

His book is a step by step guide on how to start and maintain asuccessfull football program.

This book covers the I-formation (power running game with a wide open passing attack) and a versatile multiple defensive system. Which, he used to win a 32-2 career playoff record and 25 consecutive playoff victories.

This book is very user friendly. Coach Trimble uses tons of pictures and diagrams. If you do not understand what he is talking about, all you have to do is look at the pictures. If you are looking for a play book, here it is. This book is great for youth to college level.

If you want to read about another coach that has reached the same level of success, read "COACHING FOOTBALL SUCCESSFULLY" BY Bob READE

5-0 out of 5 stars At last a structure
I have read many books on coaching. Most of them have been a collection of tips. You know, the 101 things a coach can do in coaching. Hey the detail is great but what about a framework, a compass to guide a coach during the process? Thankfully, that's what this book by L Michael Hall and Michelle Duval provides. A framework ! The models they have developed: The Matrix Model and The Axes of Change Model make it easier to navigate the process of coaching someone. What is really great too is the many coaching conversations in the book. These conversations introduce other coaching models and show you how the actual coaching session fits into the two models developed by the authors. You can read the transcript of how a session unfolds and then read a review of the session by the authors. This is a must read for anyone serious about coaching.

5-0 out of 5 stars Maybe, The BEST book in the market about coaching!
I have been doing executive coaching for the last 7 years around latin america and as part of my development as a professional coach I have been doing an extensive research (you should see my amazon account!!!) on thepractical and theoretical literature relate to coaching; Coaching conversationsby Michael Hall and Michele Duval and executive coaching with Backbone and Heart by Mary Beth O Neill are a MUST for any person doing executive coaching fulltime. What I like the most about Coaching conversations by Hall and Duval is the frameworkgiven and the practical examples they offer. Another very nice thing about this book are the models that are presented (The axis model, the Matrix model, and the different types of conversations a coach can use on his practice. I highly advice every person who really wants to get to the HEART OF THE MATTER to read this book!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The transformative power of the coaching conversation
I have multiple certifications in coaching and NLP, but I still felt like I had two left feet sometimes, in regards to what step to take where or when in the dance of change? The question then became, what is the process of change? And at what point was I crossing the line into consulting, teaching, mentoring, training or therapy? How could I draw a clear line in the sand to distinguish myself from every so called consultant/coach, that were popping up on every street corner?. Enter the first non-therapy based model on the market today, the "Axis of change model" developed by Michael Hall PhDand Master coach Michelle Duval. Finally I have a model to work with healthy people who want to self actualise their highest potentials. This book and change model puts the power for change back in the clients hands. Now, as the coach I just need to identify where the client is on the axis of change and ask the most compelling question to awaken, challenge or provoke transformation and unlock hidden resources they already have .At last a model and a book that demonstrates the true artistry and beauty of the pure coaching dance, and this model was given me thefluidity to support the client going anywhere they need to,with finesse and style. If you're a coach this book will be a reference you'll come back to again and again. If you not, you'll realise the awesome power of communication and ferocious dialogues in creating change. ... Product Description

Even leaders need leading. In the context of this greatly changing world, ministry experts Steve Ogne and Tim Roehl have coined the phrase "transformissional" to define the unique type of inspired coaching they offer to spiritual leaders in need of fresh direction.

"The path that the Lord of the Harvest has designed sometimes takes us beyond our comfort zone and off the map of our experience," they write. "We’ll help you understand how coaching helps leaders get traction and make progress in personal growth and ministry productivity. We’ll also help you become an effective coach so no matter where you find yourself—from church buildings to coffee shops to places you’ve never gone before—you can come alongside to help others live out their call and make a difference in their world."

Endorsements:

Ò"There are many gems in this book for those who coach pastors, church planters or missionaries. The strength of this book comes from years of coming alongside missional leaders. I have been on the receiving end of Steve Ogne's coaching ability and I know from experience how astute he is at drawing out the strength of the one he is coaching."

-Neil Cole, director of Church Multiplication Associates and author of Organic Church

"Missional life and leadership remain docile concepts until someone is moved to action. Deconstructing failure without a way forward is nothing but hot air. Transformissional coaching is the difference. Author Steve Ogne isn't only a proven coach to coaches. He's my coach and has learned the secret of enlarging one's vision while centering leaders in reality . . . the reality of a world desperate for a new kind of leader and new kind of church."

-Hugh Halter, coauthor of The Tangible Kingdom and director of Missio

"Some books are written from an author's knowledge, and others come from the author's life calling, giftedness, experience and soul. This fits the latter. I've watched Tim and Steve live their book, and it is a delight to see how it reads like coaching on paper, about coaching, from two coaches. If you read TransforMissional Coaching in a quiet place, you can almost hear their voices encouraging you. It doesn't get any more real than this."

-Brad Smith, president, Bakke Graduate University

"There are few men that I consider both experts and friends. Steve Ogne and Tim Roehl fit that bill, and they are worth heeding. I was blessed with good mentors-but TransforMissional Coaching will help me (and you) be intentional, biblical, and strategic in our coaching relationships."

-Ed Stetzer, director of LifeWay Research and coauthor of Lost and Found

5-0 out of 5 stars Tools for Coaches
As a leader in church planting for my denomination I am often called on to coach others. But finding practical tools to facilitate a healthy coaching relationship with others can be a challenge. This book gives a treasure chest of such tools.

Other books that also offer helpful tools are:
Team Ministry
Team Ministry: How to Find Meaning and Fulfillment through Understanding the Spiritual Gifts within You
The Painful Side of Leadership: Moving Forward Even When It Hurts
Developing Leadership Teams in the Bivocational Church
Leadership Coaching: The Disciplines, Skills, and Heart of a Christian Coach
Coaching Ministry Teams: Leadership and Management in Christian Organizations

5-0 out of 5 stars Coaching Post-modern and Missional Leaders
TransforMissional Coaching adds to a growing collection of books on coaching in ministry. The book's unique contributions are around coaching Post-modern leaders, coaching from a holistic missional mind-set, and coaching out of character and relational authority.

Steve Ogne and Tim Roehl are long-time coaches and church planting practitioners. Over the years their coaching has shifted from those planting "come unto us" churches, to those who are post-modern and missional. Their collective experience is detailed in this treasure chest filled with ministry coaching gems.

The authors advocate a hands-on approach to coaching that is both relational and experiential. A coach is not an advisor-teacher, as many who find themselves helping others often behave. Nor is a coach a passive sounding board who only listens and asks questions. A coach cares, celebrates, and challenges, as well as listens. Two chapters focus on the coach's character and relational authority.

Reading the book, I imagine many leaders will feel challenged to advise less, listen more, and grow in asking excellent questions. Several chapters will specifically help in this regard. The authors provide teaching, inspiration, and examples for listening and asking great questions.

The book also serves as a toolbox of coaching helps. There are three models for holistic coaching, more than 200 sample questions (yes, I counted!), how to adapt your coaching style using DISC, how to effectively coach Post-modern leaders, and help on coaching teams.

Throughout the book the authors tell stories to illustrate various coaching situations. The stories paint a picture of a coaching relationship. I have heard both Ogne and Roehl coach and can tell you they practice what they preach - they listen, ask great questions, challenge according to the coachee's goals, and keep their advice to a minimum.

The subtitle of the book is "empowering leaders in a changing ministry world." Two facts we don't want to ignore: the ministry world is changing rapidly and empowering leaders is the only solution to adapt and make an impact. Ogne and Roehl provide us with important helps to re-skill to be more empowering and more missional. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Insight with Practical Application

`Coaching with Spirit' will bring awareness to your life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Connecting with Spirit
I read this book as if it is a book of poems, reading through different chapters as I felt drawn to them.

At times when I have felt stuck while coaching a client or in my personal life I have reflected on what I had learned from Coaching With Spirit.I would then quiet myself, go inside and ask, "Spirit, what should I do now?"This process has brought me many surprises in both my coaching and in my life.

Thank you, Teri-E, for showing me new and powerful ways to connect with spirit.

5-0 out of 5 stars The proof is in the living it...
What impresses me so much about this book is the example that the author has demonstrated over time in her living. I know Teri-E Belf personally; she was my coaching mentor almost 20 years ago. Over that period of time, I have witnessed her in many situations where she has demonstrated to me in her quiet, steadfast way that she coaches and lives with spirit.

While there is much value in the content and myriad viewpoints of the authors participating in this book, I personally take great pleasure in the fact that this book is a manifestation of someone who is a master of what she teaches.

Anyone can write a book these days, but not everyone is a master of the topic at hand. Teri-E continues to be a model for me of how to live a blessed and contagious life. And that alone can be reason enough to read this book.

It is obvious to me, and likely obvious to anyone with whom she has worked, that Teri-E is creating her legacy in this and many other ways. ... Read more

Product Description
Coaching Science and Coaching Studies courses are appearing in increasing numbers in many universities. The textbooks used in most of these courses are either theoretically based sports science texts or practically based coaching books. The former are generally lacking in application while the latter rarely have any scientific input. The reader is, therefore, left to make the links themselves.

Coaching Science will bridge that gap covering both theory and practice and, most important, showing how theory informs practice. The book will be multi- and, to some extent, inter-disciplinary, as it is not possible to examine the interaction between coach, performer and task from a single discipline perspective.

Each chapter will include overviews of the main theories, but the bulk of the material will be concerned with how such theories can be applied in practice. Good and frequent use of examples will be provided. Throughout, the student will be given problems to solve. At the end of each chapter there will be revision notes, recommended readings and questions on chapter content. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great place to start
If there is any such thing as a Coaching 101 class, this should be the textbook.A great book for youth and JV coaches as well as people who justwant to learn more about the game. This text offers a great overview ofnearly every aspect of football on and off the field. Not only does itcover the "Xs and Os", but also addresses strategy, gameplanning, and parental, family and community involvement with the footballprogram.Coaches working at more advanced levels of football (5A highschools, college, pro) might find this book remedial. However, I thinkfundamentals are important at any level and this text may prove to be agreat refresher for coaches and coordinators bogged down in zone blitzesand rhythm passing. My favorite parts of the book were the explanations ofthe evolution of offensive and deffensive formations. It's one thing toknow how a play works, it's another to know WHY.Other books I've readgave me the fish, this book showed me how to fish.BIG difference.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Overview to Coaching Football
This book by Tom Flores is very interesting and informational. It gives a very good overview of the aspects of football and coaching. You can find within its pages almost anything you need to help you to begin formulatingyour coaching course of action. Although this is a good text, it is bestsuited for youth and beginning coaches. Coaches at a higher level maydesire a more advanced text. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A decent read
I bought this book hoping for some simple, effective ways to implement a new press break for my team, and got it! His 1-up press break (followed by 2 and 3-up) so simple that I wondered how I hadn't thought of some of this on my own. I loved that the book was organized into the presses themselves, and also a point-by-point list of the responsibilities of each player, which makes it easier for players to learn. It also contains drills for the press breaks, which is key. My only problem was that the cost of the book didn't seem to be equivalent to the information I gained. I would recommend buying this book used, if available. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great resource
Looking for a book to help you not only improve at you job but in your everyday life! This would be that book.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5th Edition is Now Available
The 5th Edition is available directly from the Lominger-dot-com web site for substantially less than these other sellers are offering the 4th edition.

Fabulous resource.

4-0 out of 5 stars FYI
FYI is a very comprehensive review of leadership competencies. My organization is using the book to assist its leaders with 10 understanding what competencies are; 2) what their personal strengths and opportunities are; 3) developing a plan to more effectively develop their own leadership performance.Easy to read and understand with a wealth of ideas to address developmental opportunities. We have purchased the Card Sort that goes along with the book too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the money
Although a little outdated, it's the more recent currently available. If you need something urgently, buy it. If you are just curious, wait a little for a revised edition. Independently, it is a good item and contains valuable information considering there aren't many publications like this one readily available.

5-0 out of 5 stars FYI: For Your Improvement, A Guide for Development and Coaching (4th edition)
Order selection and processing was excellent. Books are being used in a training session right now. Very useful tool.
Thank you.
